-- DJI Mini 2 here. July 2022. I find I get better range leaving it on auto. Bought a copper range extender (can fly out little more than 700 feet in urban/commercial area) set to 5.8 manual, I get 400 feet in the same environment on the same day, multiple tests over different days. Then over the woods, no power lines, no cell phone towers, I get a bit more. Hard to tell. Signal bars go orange, and as quick as they do, flick back to white. By all means, test. But auto seems to be best. Max range I achieved before auto return to home was three quarters of a mile. EDIT: And I live in class D air space. Altitude for all tests were between 300 and 380 feet. Birds around here like to go after it.
lol broke my drone taking a package to my friends to try to use the air drop. as i was descending the string got tangled in the props and down it went. so sad, but its getting fixed and I will try again with my newly found lesson.

We're looking for a drone to record our walks, hikes, travels, etc. From our reading some FAQ you need a Smartphone with WiFi. Unfortunately, we only have Talk Minutes and no Data Plans. We just hop on free WiFi or home WiFi. We don't need a drone that gets epic high altitude movies. We need something that kinda circles and follow us around. 2K would be nice. 1080 is satisfactory. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Get a mavic mini or dji mini 2. You don't need to have a phone plan with wifi, the drone just uses a signal from the controller to the drone that is the same frequency as wifi. This confuses a lot of people. You can fly a drone without any data plan at all

@@mcmach1 I know! ...but the bigger Mavic Pro is not the right drone for crazy "fallow me" shoots.... that's something for a lighter not that expansive drone like the air.
