Automotive crimp connectors should not be on a new boat. I pretty much rewired my last Skeeter. Moved on to Vexus and things were much better. New Phoenix on order so I see how they fair.
What did u do for your low speed porpoise issue? I’ve done everything short of installing a hydro foil. Bad thing is when I’m by myself it drives like one should. I can run 25-30 mph on pad but when I add a co angler I’m still having the issue. It’s a issue with to much weight in the back I personally believe cause we can only have half a tank and it does fine but when u fill up the livewells your back to porpoise. It’s crazy how weight sensitive these skeeters are. I have the Zxr 19. Your 20 may not have these issues. Just curious
Just what I’ve been told and through som reading: I know this video is a bit old. But, smallmouth like copper colors. Whether it’s fly, spinning or otherwise. If smelliest are the target, keep copper Johns or something similar.
Congrats man! It was tough weather out there that day I fished the coangler side.. first BFL ever got 12th place.. wasn’t 100% sure if I was gonna make the 7 hr ride to fish the rest of the events but 12place in points for the first event made the decision for me! That’s one time my ass would be all up in the jail right after I got finished with the Mfer’s that done some stupid stuff like that, and be damn proud to tell the judge why I done it.
(Ranger taking notes): Add $5000 option for waterproof connectors, the smooth brains will pay it! .... 3 years from now: 2024 Ranger Z520 w/ waterproof wiring option, no low balls, I know what I got!
Boats have been built like that forever. I just replaced a transom on a 1975 clastron wired the same way with same connections and everything still worked🤔. 1st time boat owner and being around boats?
It's not gonna short out it will be fine. I do agree with you though.If you find a boat manufacturing company that uses all waterproof connectors then post it. I would be interested to know. All the boats I've ever been around are the same. Boats i've had personal experience with are Rangers, skeeters, Procraft, Stratos, Javelin, Nitro/Tracker, Phantom, Champion, BassMaster,... The absolute nicest boat I've ever been in was a Legend but I think they are no longer making bass boats. Even the areas you couldn't see the fiberglass was finished. If you've ever ran wires in a boat you know the kinds of splinters I'm talking about.
We have owned 5 skeeters over the last 6 years. We are done… Quality Control has tanked. Maybe we will go back in the future but until we see improvements; we are tired of it…,
Dude did you read the Yamaha manual before taking that out for the first time looks like you trusted your buddy to know what he was doing maybe I am wrong but I don’t think that’s how Yamaha breaks in their motors
I purchased a new FXR21 Apex in 2020 and the build quality was terrible. Same connectors as you are seeing in your boat, all forward storage areas soaking wet after just a normal rain event. Had a Phoenix previously and just sold my FXR21 Apex and moving back to a Phoenix Elite. It’s unfortunate that build quality at Skeeter is so bad.
Man I am sorry to hear that! Maybe things have changed, or I've got a unicorn. This boat was an absolute beast for me last year, literally 0 issues except the connectors needing changed for my peace of mind. Do you mind mentioning if your phoenix came with waterproof connectors? Seems like most boats aren't coming with them from others comments. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for the info. That's the first confirmation I've gotten on a bass cat. So far, it seems as though waterproof connectors are not a standard on today's bass boats. Thanks for commenting!
Skeeter quality is crap.... and they charge premium prices. I had a new 2016 ZX and after a few years it was covered in stress cracks in the cockpit area. It's a shame because they are great riding boats with a good layout.
I will definitely check them out. Love Berkley almost anything. Didn't get to try the dark sleeper much. Maybe I'll check them out pre-spawn on Champlain!
Yessir, Big Mike is the man hahaha. When it hit, I thought it was a bass the way it was fighting! Than I saw it and was like man I wish this wasn't tourney day. I would have made some nice fish bites with that one.
the thing that bothered me the most was the rats nest with zip ties. Even w/ the crimp connectors, they would at least shrink wrap 'em. Not what you'd expect for the $ one has to pay now days. Be curious what Phoenix, Basscat, and the white river marine boats are doing.
I agree, the zip tie mess was what caused me to look further. Man open metal connections and water is just a problem waiting to happen. From what I heard this year it has been across manufactures. I'm sure some more custom manufacturers like BassCat wont have the issues like this.
my new 2022 ranger had 27 blemishes on the gel coat. haven't had time to check it over like that yet quality went out the door at every builder it seems like (likely not basscat)
Damn! 27!! I hope you are able to get that fixed man! I would get in your bilge at least and check for waterproofing on your connectors. I talked to a couple tournament buddies this year and have heard of a lot of electrical problems/wiring issues on the newer boats.
Thank you, it is an awesome looking boat!! I would agree that after 45 mins of driving a boat for my first time the St. Lawrence might not be the place to go joy ride in inclement weather! I have about 100 hours on the boat now. Fished the St. Lawrence river total about 12 days this year. Love it up there, wow!
@@largemouthblast Lots to see and explore on the St Lawrence, you find yourself looking along the shore at the scenery as much as looking into the water.
Yeah I have heard some pretty crazy things about the electrical wiring on a lot of these COVID boats. Seems its not just Skeeter that had the issues too.
