This is my favorite animation ever, and i love how well the art style and events match the lyrics. It’s crazy how detailed and well thought this was. This is so underrated.

Sure, thanks so much for asking!! It's one of the first bits I completed, and I like it a lot :D The first four shots are of them in different times of the main bsd events, in no particular order 1) them in their usual outfits 2) their Dead Apple clothes they wear in the movie 3) the clothes from Dark Era when Dazai was young (that one's a little tricky to get, since Fyodor is in pretty much the same stuff) 4) their Meursault outfits when they are in prison Next part is a bit of everything, and where the more interesting stuff begins 1) Beast Dazai (don't know if you read it, I haven't yet either, but it's a bsd novel set in a parallel universe, in which Fyodor doesn't exist, I'm pretty sure. The book in his place is meant to be The Book they're all looking for) 2) Dead Apple again, the apple and a knife referencing how Fyodor almost killed Dazai in it. This shot parallels the previous one, and is about how while they might not miss each other in either scenario, they would still feel each other's absence in their lives. 3) last one, with Fyodor's hand, where Dazai isn't smiling anymore. From the main timeline, where everyone really thinks he's dead. The two of them have a very interesting and complicated relationship, and I thought about how in a way, HERE Dazai might actually miss someone who could keep up with him. The composition of this part lightly references a shot of them in Meursault, from manga or anime I don't remember. The background is a chessboard, because they love playing mindgames and all. Hope that explains it a bit, sorry it's so long!
Love this so much I saw Nikolai and clicked but I gotta ask why does fyodor have bite marks on him??? Or is that something else? Other than that love this so much!!!❤❤❤
Thank you! Fyodor has a nervous(?) habit of biting his own hand in the manga, it just wasn't important enough to make it into the anime. He only does it a few times, and the marks aren't a part of his actual design, just something I thought would be interesting to add

@@faksyan Thank you for your kindness! ♥︎ If you want to read an longer explanation of the situation i wrote it down bellow, i am safe right now and it will be over soon but it's very scary to see what is happening as this is the biggest climate tragedy of this kind recorded in my country since 1941. ---- We are doing our best to deal with it but the consequences of climate change have been really hitting Brazil this month, half the country is dealing with extreme hot temperatures and a water crises while the other has been under heavy rain for a week now (i live in the state where the rain is being the harshest), there's more than 4 meters and 70 cm or about 12 and a half feet of flooding above the sea level in the urban area [that is being contained by the main city's barrier] and about thrice as much has passed in the rural parts of the state. It is terrifying and concerning but evacuations/protocls and recue missions have been really sucessfull this year and people are helping each other a lot when they can, so we can just hope to rebuild what is being lost when the rain ends on monday and it begins to dry out. It's tought water will stop isolating the bridges that connect the state by next friday.

I don't usually comment on youtube videos but I just wanted to say this is so beautifully done! This is my favorite bsd animatic, I come back to re-watch it all the time and have enjoyed slowly picking up on the smaller details. I love your artstyle, the transitions, the colors, the way it matches so well with the song--I just read your pinned comment and it's so cool how much thought you put into this! And I love the emphasis on characters overcoming past trauma, it's one of my favorite themes touched upon in bsd. Also I was wondering who is the rightmost character at 0:38? Anyway, thanks for sharing this!
Thank you so much for such a nice comment, this means a lot to me!! It's meant to be Akutagava at 0:38 :) I really like that he's kind of stands out next to all the other characters there, since he's not an Agency member, but he also fits with them right there thematically.
Belatedly, adding my rants and notes about specific frames here, because I finally decided that I want them somewhere people can read them. This video is very much a love letter to bsd, a story I've been very passionate about for about six? seven? years. Some frames reference the anime/manga, and I really like having a lot of (maybe indirect) connections to the lyrics when I make animations, so you can look into that if you want. For this video I also wanted to do something interesting with colors, which I've seen a person in the comments pick up on, and it made me extremely happy. 0:11 - so, the first two shots basically establish the purple/red parallel I decided to go with, with purple symbolizing change, and red being the past and/or trauma, it's up to interpretation and might apply to the characters I drew here differently. But you get the gist. Basically good/bad, but a little bit more nuanced. The lyrics come into it too, also mirroring and being a parallel to each other. Yosano is on the red frames mostly because I wanted to put Kyouka and Atsushi on the same one. They're a package deal, don't separate them :( I guess you could also say that both she and Atsushi were saved by Dazai in a way, so it would make sence to draw them together. It could all just be seen as a past/present parallel too, there are like. layers to it. 0:14 - obviously Dazai got this line, since that man cannot be honest for once and just covers every emotion ever with humor. Very fitting. I also have never drawn Dazai before this video except like one time in 2018 and now I'm a certified Dazai drawer after doing it for five months. yay. 0:19 - the first idea I had for this section wad a plain shot of Akutagava with dark red background before it cutting to his death. It would've been more fast-paced and, the colors would've been there for the whole "Akutagava sees Dazai as the most important and capable and /good/ person in his life and would die if he asked" thing, but I really like how it turned out in the end. It captures what I was going for well, I think. 0:24 - for the people in the background I specifically chose Mori, Koyo, Oda and Natsume, the adults who have influenced Dazai's teenage years the most, directly or not. And for 0:34, Kyouka, Atsushi, Yosano and Akutagava - all of the characters whose childhood trauma comes up as an important part of discussion of cycles of abuse in bsd. 1:02 - I mean, this is a line about dogs. I would've been a fool not to go there. And the "they don't understand me" bit too. It fits the three of them really well. When I got the idea to make this video I remembered these lyrics and went "ohh I'm gonna make it so angsty it's going to be awesome people would be so sad" (I'm people). I was thinking the exact same during that bit with Akutagava while redrawing all the manga panels for the background too. There's something about art that just makes you a little evil I think. I just want people to see/read something I made and feel emotional, I guess. 1:04 - something about this line always makes me so sad, even though I can't quite put my finger on it. You know the whole thing about the characters' eyes in the manga? How the light in them represents how much good they have in them as people? That's sort of what I was going for with these shots and focus on the eyes, how Dazai contemplates if he could ever become as good as Oda was and if it would make his life feel any different. If it would make the world itself love him more and be more kind to him. Oda's eyes are closed though, of course, because he's dead. 1:09 - it wasn't my plan initially, but I decided that this part really fit Kyouka and her desire to break away from the violence the mafia taught her and leave her old life behind. 1:12 - this line. You know how Atsushi always feels like he needs an excuse to continue living, like he needs to justify his own existence by protecting people. And Akutagava doesn't exactly blame Dazai for what happened to him, but he definitely should. I think about that a lot. And I decided to use the red/blue theme they have going on for Atsushi and Akutagava in the anime, because I absolutely love it. 1:18 - this part doesn't have much to do with lyrics, I just really wanted some more of the Yosano and Kyouka parallel. Both were regular kids with families in their childhood (presumably for Yosano, but she definitely did live a normal life), both were directly or not used by Mori, both got out and found their happiness in the Agency. I really want them to interact more in canon, I feel like they are such good friends and want to see more of them :( 1:33 - fun thing I noticed when rewatching the anime last time is that when Dazai and Atsushi are celebrating defeating Fyodor on the ship, they have differently colored drinks, implying that Atsushi isn't drinking alcohol, I guess? I liked this detail so much that I kept it, even though you can barely see it. The rest is pretty self-explanatory, I think. The sequence at 1:46 heavily references the ending of season three of bsd, which always makes me super emotional :') this sure is a wall of text, thank you if you got through all of this and thanks for watching.
