I'm looking for this type of amp to play in my small living room. Is the power not too strong so as not to disturb the neighbors? I'm hesitating with a Vox Super Beetle Bass
I've actually been using this amp at band practice and its actually louder than what I first thought. It's a powerful little amp and depending on how much you push it you may get a knock on the door from the neighbors. Thank you for watching the video
I bought an SB59 from the same store and mine is almost identical. Great store and great service. I've owned a few Gibsons and never bonded, but this SB59 is a keeper.
I love PRS, and have several, but I love my Eastman guitars more. Much like in the video, the PRS sound a bit thinner and more compressed, while the Eastman sound more open, warmer, and richer, with great overtones.
Sometimes yes sometimes no.. My ‘64 335 A/B with standard 335 was no comparison. I sold the factory standard and kept the CS.. I say if its your number one, go CS if its not, and you want a work horse that can take the beatings, production is fine for most things. CS is better, but never pay retail for a CS. If I wanted a special in a round neck, I would have no choice but go custom shop I think the ‘64 is the round neck. Thanks for your opinion. I like to hear other players perspective.
I bought the regular Gibson SG special because the custom shop was so much more expensive. I honestly think the custom is worth the money but I hate seeing big chunks leave my bank account. $1600 is a great deal and a no-brainer. If it was my only guitar and I wasn’t a “I need one of everything” guy I would definitely go custom shop
did you find that there was a difference in sound with the custom shop with the bridge being so much farther back than the sg special? I'd imagine that the sg special might have a bit more twang?
Honestly I didn't notice a more significant amount of twang. For me the biggest differences were the pickups in the custom had a more full and warmer tone and the overall feel of the guitars. Also to be fare I don't have the SG special anymore and when I did have it I rarely played it clean. Thank you for watching the video.
Current 2024 Gibson spec shows nylon nut. Is yours nylon or bone? This guitar looks killer and sounds great. I have a 2010 ‘61 Reissue with PAF style Humbuckers, but would like one with P90’s. Is the neck on yours a thin taper or is it pretty chunky?
The biggest build difference is the pick up locations on the non-custom shop version, it looks modern and wrong, obviously that's intentional... kills me how they do things wrong on purpose
OMG that brown one is gorgeous… but I think I liked the tone of the cheap one a little better. Random pickup preference probably. I’ve been wanting to build a similar shape with vintage hot pickups… it’s my next thing when I can afford to make it happen (never). It’s amazing that $400 will get one of those Sterling Axis now. Almost too hard to resist.
Very sad to see that two years later Fender still has failed to innovate. Especially sad when you see everyone has copied their products and brought them into the future. Fender need to pull their finger out and stop living in the past or they might end up like Nokia.
Have mine for a year, over all good bass, but few QA problems. The body sticks out of neck line about 2 mil, never seen this terrible misalignment on any cheaper guitars. Pot started to make scratchy noise so decided to spray some DeoxItD5 removed the scratch plate and here surprise: no shielding. The ground wire screwed right in to lacquered wood. So had to put copper shielding and properly connected. Bridge could be better.
I changed the bridge on mine as well. Was really the only issue I had with it as a whole. Happy with it with the new bridge. Doesn't sound quite as mean as my MIM precision, but I like that it has more tone versatility.
I see that Who poster back there. If you own that CS SG Special because of Pete Townshend, then we think alike. I love Pete, especially when he had the SG slung over his shoulder wearing that white boilers suit. 👍
@valkash7441 the first unpredictable, violent, raging, ear piercingly loud madman guitarist. He's my favorite guitarist ever. I've been playing for nearly 30 years now. Many of my other guitar idols, from many genres, get more recognition, especially for lead playing, but Pete was, still is, a boundary pushing genius. His rhythm style, especially on an acoustic, is unrivaled. His knack for "the concept album" is unrivaled. He's just incredible.
It really helps to have an idea of what you want to say before starting the camera. Lol. But cool bass! I love it in white, as well. I saw Sting on SNL in the early 90’s with it and wanted one ever since. Awesome score!
The elites are amazing. I mainly play bass, and my #1 jazz bass is a 2016 elite natural ash 4 with maple board. It's an amazing bass, great quality. The truss rod adjustment is awesome with the wheel. The pre amp is solid even though I usually play it passive, and the noiseless gen 4s do their job very well. I have noticed at least on the bass side of things the prices on these have slowly been creeping up. I was lucky to get a good deal a few years back. I would love to add a elite strat and a 5 string elite pbass to the collection someday. Anyways, thanks for the content great vid! 🙏
Thank you for your honest opinion. It’s April 2024 as I write this comment and the internet is buzzing as Epiphone releases a new batch of Inspired by Gibson premium guitars in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop. For $500 more you get the proper Gibson open book headstock along with proper and period correct Gibson specs like pickups, electronics, wiring etc etc. Plus a premium hard shell case with an Epiphone-Gibson Custom commemorative logo, that is also on the guitar. I’m waiting for my Custom in Alpine White to arrive tomorrow. And, I am pre-ordering from Sweetwater the Ebony version in time for Father’s Day. It’s an interesting time but life is good. Cheers.
