Come experience history everywhere with me, That History Chick. Sometimes it’s found among the everyday adventure called life and other times it’s a bit more of a journey to get to. Covering a variety of eras and infusing history into everything I do.
For years I’ve been traveling, adventuring and using those experiences to educate just about anyone who will listen. Figured it was time to start recording my experiences with the hope that people might enjoy it.
Like Patrick Henry, I know no way of judging the future but by the past.

I find I fascinating that no one has searched for his body along with the 200 soldiers he was buried with. His obituary reads, He was buried at Medford, Massachusetts...specifically 50 or 60 rods north of the old burying ground. Rods are 16.5 feet. 16.5x50=825 ft. So on google maps that puts it roughly around the area of Cambridge commons. A LiDAR scan would easily find those solders and major mccleary.

Fun modern history. McDonald’s has most assuredly landed solidly as part of Modern Day Pop Culture. While as a kid I was more of a BK guy, I do agree that Mickey D fries are the best and I too still occasionally enjoy the Chicken Nuggets with the sweet and sour sauce, as well as the BBQ sauce. Haven’t had any in a long time, but sometimes, in a pinch, they make a good snack. For myself, I have always found cemeteries to be quiet, peaceful places of contemplation. One of my favorite stories has always been “A Fine and Private Place”, by Peter S. Beagle. If you haven’t read it, I think you might enjoy it. Give it a try. I so enjoyed that story that it inspired me to write my own short story, in honor and as a tribute, many years ago. I tried to capture the haunting essence of Beagle’s tale. I enjoyed the writing of my own tale, and think it is one of my better stories I’ve written. As always, enjoyed this venture into more modern history, and safe travels to you. 👋

Wow! The fact that you knew John Williams when you were a child is amazing! He is one of the finest composers of the twentieth century. As one critic once said, “John Williams composed the soundtrack of our lives in the 80’s.” His scores for some of the greatest films of that era are legendary! As a major filmmaking and movie fan, films like Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and so many others, just wouldn’t be the same without his phenomenal musical scores. Even the average person just needs to hear the first few bars of music and then can immediately recognize the score from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Definitely agree with you, if more people today were like Johnny Appleseed, the world would be a far better place. Enjoyed the tour, and the history, as always. Safe travels! 👋

So very good to see the statue for Christa McAuliffe. As a former Educator, her loss, and the lives of her crew mates, was especially devastating for me. Fortunately I was not in class on that terrible day, but I heard from fellow teachers, all who were watching the historic Shuttle mission that day with their students, just what a horrific and devastating tragedy it was. Someone once said of this awful tragedy, “At least they were all on their way to the Heavens, so they didn’t have to travel far to go Home.” Those words are a comfort to me, to this day. May she and her brave and valiant crew mates, Forever Rest In Peace. Thank you, so much, for sharing this wonderful monument to our First Teacher in Space. Safe travels.

Wow, that was a wild, wavy sea! I lived on the West Coast in a little town next to the sea for six wonderful years. I loved to go down to the water’s edge and just sit and watch the waves roll in. I’ve seen some angry seas and some major waves, those waves you had there, with the tide so high, should definitely be a bigger concern for those folks living at water’s edge, more so than some pooch piddle against their homes. You have so much important, early history on the East Coast, but I’ve been fortunate enough to discover much of the later, but equally important history on the West Coast of the US. Some people have “Issues”. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that he probably had no Issues with collecting the most-likely exorbitant fees he and his neighbors were given for the use of their properties and for filming rights. Also, you’re absolutely correct that when you’re walking on a PUBLIC sidewalk, you’re doing nothing wrong. Definitely like the contrast between the first and second filming locations and how the people in the first location are much kinder and more understanding. Stay safe out there, unfortunately the world is full of people who are less than kind. Some are rather rude and obnoxious, and more than a few can be a bit deranged. Safe travels! Sadly, historical markers across our nation are rife with inaccuracies. While most historical markers were put up with the best intentions, many of them are products of their time, and sometimes the proper research was not done to ensure historical accuracy. When I see such erroneous information on these markers, I try to take it with a grain of salt and understand that at least an effort was made to try to teach some History…even if the end result isn’t entirely correct. The “Average Citizen” in our country today sadly doesn’t have much appreciation of History. But those of us who ARE true History Buffs, will know the difference and be able to spot the inaccuracies, sometimes with just a little research of own. Best of Luck in your travels and stay safe. 👋
