You're using green wood, if you find the catty suitable. I would start a fire an gently turn it over the flame all over. Don't matter if it slightly scorches it, you can sand it off. Reason for heat treatment, dries sap in the fork, hardening the wood an cures it. Only a old school tip, respect from uk
