Twenty years is such a deep song..you guys saved me ..... Especially this recording...Such a beautiful voice Dan....love the acoustic...I know it may sound crazy but this song changed my life.....Thank u for helping me get my soul back after listening to it about 1000 times....I thank u from my heart.....❤
just a sweet reminder sayin thanks for the whole upload. brings solace and feel-good memories he and i have. remember when my older brother and ex watched it live when they streamed. I watched for a bit with them and left shortly after. he's the reason why i love augustana so much. never told him before but they're our fave band as bros!!!!!!
Just started watching this. Went to college with Dan, and recently saw him at a show. I can confirm, he was a “terrible” music student but an absolutely brilliant songwriter. Glad he went the route he went. He is a very kind hearted and humble dude. Glad to hear some of these thoughts and songs. Cheers.
I love this evolution of the song! The most obvious difference is the singing that has not only changed in tone and pitch but also in lyrics. Nice to see that someone actually adapts their "youthful" songs to fit their current life. 10/10 any day
I’m not sure enough Augustana fans realize just how RIDICULOUSLY TALENTED of a singer/songwriter/pianist/guitarist Dan is. I’m a professional musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, music producer and audio engineer. Went to Berklee on a scholarship. Not bragging. Explaining what I do and my qualifications so that ppl take my statements seriously. He IS THE REAL DEAL. Yes, art is subjective. But TALENT and ABILITY are objective metrics. Don’t have to like ones music or style or genre but I always have to identify and RESPECT the talent/ability/prowess of the band or individual. He’s freakishly talented at multiple things. Deserves so much more acclaim.
As a keyboard player who had a minor amount of success, I COMPLETELY concur with your thoughts about Dan's talent. He plays multiple instruments well, writes great songs on multiple instruments, sings, and produces. There are few people - even highly successful music stars - that have this kind of talent. I wish I could do ONE of those things as well as Dan.
All The Stars and Boulevards (LP) got me through a DEVASTATING breakup back in 2007. I might have played that record 10,000 times that year. No hyperbole. Just incredible songs. And I’m a professional musician, producer and audio engineer saying this. One of my friends in the industry (Warren Huart) was actually lucky enough to be able to co-produce their 1st 2 LP’s. I love hearing stories about the sessions. Augustana should’ve been SO MUCH BIGGER than they were/are. Classic music biz story. The best, most talented bands and singers and players rarely “make it”. One of the few industries where how good you are at your craft has nothing to do with achieving career success. Sad.
2009 I first heard "All stars and Boulevards". Then I listen to "Boston" right after and I was hooked in. Since then I've been a fan. Dan Layus is my favorite singer, above all. I Love his music and voice. My gf told me about him and she is also a huge fan. ❤
Never take these down! So glad someone has this up, I wish Dan had also put this out on Vinyl as well. Getting harder to get any live music from Dan these days
Well well well. Look who's revisiting the good old times through a song released in 2008. Just heard this song again after about a decade whilst doing my weekend shopping. I had to look at my phone screen to see who the band was and what the title was. So happy to have heard this song again. Part of me wants to re-live those days again and see the old faces and places when I first got captivated by this song. Bittersweet. I miss my younger self and the people I grew up with. Simpler times.
