Gen 2 are not too bad and especially in urban areas. That being said. My Harris L3 Filmeless with Supergain and an Iris is superior. Photonis are extremely usable. Get what your budget allows and train.
I had an XX2540DG, XR5 WG, Gen 2+ tube, was bought for £900, new "old stock" and in dynamic light conditions it was Amazing, super-fast auto-gating and perfect for someone in an Urban environment that doesn't go into many really low light areas, BUT, I do and therefore I wanted Gen 3, but my limited budget would not stretch to a new Gen 3 with AG, so I bought an older Gen 3 from eBay, it was still £1200 and its an ITT F9800P, Omni 5 equivalent, its lowlight performance is about 30--40% better than the XR5 tube, which is what I wanted, but without AG, the recorded camera footage gets washed out when I use any of my IR lasers/Illuminators, which is a disappointment, but something I'm willing to live with. Its certainly better than having digital night vision, and I'm grateful I have night vision at all, as its not a cheap hobby. Here's a quick comparison of my Gen 2+ vs my Gen 3. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s9H5YvxHxW4.htmlsi=vf6rRL17hmYBsWvm
Theres very little ingenuity with American flashlights. Asia has been doing the r&d for years, figuring out what works and what doesn’t, what the customers like, and American companies copy it, and justify price with fit and finish, potting, better wages, and a warranty.
Not even close to trying to copy a modlite. Convoy is a flashlight enthusiast brand, similar how spyderco releases multiple models with a variety of pretty much every type of blade steel, convoy releases most of their models with practically every emitter available on the market. You did get the correct emitter for max throw, however if you used an s6 or s8 head instead of an s2+ head you’d get even more throw. The s2+ had a shallow reflector which is better for flood. If you want better thermal regulation which means you want it to continue the output without overheating you should get the m2 or m1 head, similar in size to a modlite head. I have modlite, I also have convoys that throw much further for 20 bucks. Not even close to the same light, not even trying to be the same light, but they are both good companies with good products that are just different. If you want to make the heads more rugged you’ll need to pot them yourself.
I know this is old news, but photonis really isn't even gen2 nightvision. It uses some type of tech totally different from both gen2 and gen3, so people lable it as "gen2+," which is really misleading.
The filters are great I think green vs white phos is preference a good tube is a good tube I run the filter on my 14 that is auto gain for brighter conditions and full moons
Now you can’t use the eye cup. You idiots are gonna find out real quick how not using the eyecups works out if you come up against someone with NVGS who uses them correctly. ☠️
So, question not sure if you can answer. I have a GT 14 gen 3 filmless. No quarrels with the image but I don't like the smaller objective lens. And other proprietary things specific to the gt 14. I shouldn't have any problems swapping the intensifier tube into a actual PVS 14 parts kit, what do u think?
Should try the green light filters usually used for the objective. Gives it move of a sepia (almost black and white) look. I like it better i think. Ive tried both extensively
dude like 10-15k hours tube life depending on the tube you wont burn it out with proper care and if you did you can afford to replace it hahaha my buddy has an old 4d one from like yearsssss ago and uses it alot after at least 6-8 years
Good review. Picked this up for cheap (400 dollar) and added a China produced tube and for my use case: night hikes and wild life observation a great budget option that way. Would not have paid the new price. For that price you can better save a bit more and get a pvs 14
You still running these? Mine are awesome. I am running the same tubes, XLSH in WP. My FOM is 2357 and the image quality is about the same as yours. Its been really nice seeing your green phos tubes, because i recognise the picture exactly. Elbit tend to have amazing details, but with a more grainy picture quality. Its not bad, its good, but what im saying is, you can always tell an elbit tube because of its unique picture quality. Compared mine to an L3 unfilmed last month, and there was nothing in it. The l3 was running WP FOM 2450, and honestly even the owner of the L3 was pissed how good mine were. Person ally i think mine was better. Did you manage to adjust the "play in the housing"? I read a comment below that said you can tighten them.
I just put nod mode in my Durango Hellcat. Its a full sport game changer. Unless u have experienced High seat pinning G's from Nitros oxide, while under a Full windshield of KnightViZion. I cant even speak to ya about it. It's like an English speaking person hearing Spanish yelled at them for the first time, at high speeds, high volume, while under water and in sign language. Extremely fast & deadly Gang Land type sign language bro.
I 3d printed a plastic case for the inside with covers, you could also line the inside with plastic or tape to prevent the objects inside from making contact with the outside. After testing with my rfid car keys, I can tell you it 100% works
@@ilovefreeski no, I don’t think they intended it to be used for faraday purposes, but with some tape or plastic, a solid piece of aluminum makes the best faraday I’ve ever seen. When I sold my perst-4 I kept the aluminum case lol
@@christianfelix1580 ah kk interesting i thought it was on purpose. I wonder if theres any info on the different frequencies produced by different types of emp. Would help determine what type of shielding material to use as they all have different attenuation frequency ranges.
You DO NOT need to factor in R&D costs for products - that are designed and sold to the military at extreme premiums - and then offered to the commercial market - at the same inflated tax dollar price. This isnt a blender. This is a platform for mounting military night vision to military helmets. They've made back their R&D money - i promise you.
