Hey Bjorn. Love the vid. Couple of questions. Is there a way to use the sample and hold but not have it trigger the envelope? So if I wanted to use it to modulate the filter only? Also, are you patching the S&H output to the gate in on the back of the Model 101. It looks like you have a splitter cable there. Cheers. Matt
Hi Matt. There is a switch for the VCO to use Ext CV or Sample & Hold, so you don't have to use it to trigger the envelope. And you can also use the S&H output to modulate the filter, for example. I never use the gate and cv on the back of the Model 101, but I do use splitter cables. :)
@@bjornfogelberg interesting. I tried one in a second hand store recently and when I switched the S/h on it automatically started triggering the envelope with no input from the attached Model 101 keyboard. The clock rate would make it go faster or slower. I looked at the schematics and indeed the clock is hardwired to the envelope with the only way to disconnect it by turning the s/h to off. Which made me think how do you use the s/h if it just triggers notes like an arpeggiator would. So what you’re telling me is the VCO switch set to external CV should stop the envelopes from receiving a pulse?!
@@Mattog Yes. :) When you tried it in the store, the switch was most likely set to S&H and the lever next to it pushed up a bit. You use that level to set the amount of CV from S&H or external CV to control the pitch of the VCO. So you can use that manually when playing, for interesting variations.
I see. So in this vid you have the s/h patched into the envelope input and triggering it? If you were to remove that patch the sequence would stop? I tried all the switches in the store including the s/h switch and slider on the VCO and nothing would stop it triggering itself. Both the CV and gate inputs in the ENV section were receiving the Model 101 keyboard. Strange.
@@Mattog I have flipped the switch for VCO CV input to S&H. I could also have patched the S&H Output into EXT CV for the VCO. Same effect. Also, in the video, the S&H output also goes into the EXT CV for VCF (Filter). I think maybe something was broken with the one you tested. I've had to repair and service mine a few times over the years. One thing that I needed to fix was actually the Sample and hold. One of the transistors had broken and needed to be replaced.
It's wild to me that hearing one of your tracks in Club Penguin was one of the many things that got me listening to EDM when I was a kid. And finding and hearing your mixes today really makes me happy! Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much for telling me this. It was an unexpected pleasant surprise to recently find out that my music was part of a game that meant so much to so many back then. Since my music was licensed through another company at the time, I rarely found out exactly where it was used.
By chance your inspiration is not: Steve Jablonsky - Negative pressure test?? From move: Deepwater Horizon! I really like serious topics. Уou got it right!!! I heard this track from DJ D-Phrag. Immersed 065! There is nothing on the internet 😫😫 Аll the best to you!!! 👍
@@user-ss2vz3vd5k Nope, It wasn't inspired by any other tune, but it's funny that you ask. D-Phrag asked me if it was inspired by Pink Floyd, which it is not. :D As the Magic Wears Off will be released on Friday, December 8 2023😊, on all the usual places, like Spotify, Beatport etc.
@@bjornfogelberg 🥰🥰🥰 I asked because the main design elements of music are very similar! I just heard the track and immediately remembered the theme from the movie. You're doing some serious work on this track!!!! If you have inspiration. Develop in this direction! 😇😇 This is music - No Time! 😉 Music for men...... ✊✊
I had one from 1978 to 1985. Sliders like this I think are the most accurate method of real-time synthesis playing. I made several CDs that are online for free at regenerative music under my name RS pearson. You did an excellent demonstration.
A really good design feature of the System 100 in my opinion, is the normalled connections between the modules- its basically set up as a normal monosynth before you use cables. Once you plug something in, this overrides the internal normal connections. This makes it easy to use, while still being super flexible, and it cuts down on cable spaggetti, making it easy to use the sliders and knobs.
This is great System 100 improv, I'm sure I've made similar/same sounds with mine. I am so nostalgic for the sound I would buy this as an uncompressed audio file if it was available!
