I notice you mentioned that it affect's the Cruze control, does it also affect indicators and wiper controls as none of the controls are working(Except for the Cruze control that limits me to 50KMH max) I bought a 2009 A200
Do you repair these steering angle senors? My horn and steering wheel buttons stopped working. I replaced the clock spring but it didn't help. Now wondering if it's this sensor??
@@aaronbell5743 So if it is the same whith me, i broke the white thing completely and i didnt even know that it had that type of mechanism with the white thing and the tape in there, while i was trying to figure out why the halogens didnt work [by rotating the steering wheel till i got to 0 degrees on my XentrySystem] i broke up the lines too... I suppose that these tapes are for the horn too. I looked up online for the whole machanism withouth the steering wheel and bought one for around 180 bucks and placed it in. Everything worked expect that the airbag wast in the same position but the horn still works.
Have a E200 w211 2006 Had same issue, EPS etc light comes on,,, if delete the error code it goes away but once drive and turn the wheel it comes on again...Took it to Merc garage to add new clock spring and still same issue.... it dont happy as much as before, but still happens. Merc garage said they didnt know why it still shows the code error..... ANy ideas why ? I am wondering if they turned the dial 2 times as you show in your video ? PS= the light on dash seems to on when turn left more than right
My brother has an issue,he has a b150 ,from one month it's come up the esp light,he has to turn of the engine so the esp light disappears, because if he doesn't do it the car loose power and can't move, they told us that the problem in on the steering cable under the Volan. Is there any way to ignore the esp?
Thanks for the helpful video. If you are going to do this job, also read the comments. I just completed on my 2007 E63. Few thoughts: Gently lift the orange locks in the airbag connectors and the plugs will lift off easily. Take pictures of every step! probably for paddle shifters I have an extra wire to disconnect - I took a pic to remember where it goes. To remove the bolt holding the steering wheel, I used an impact grade allen socket and an electric impact wrench. It loosened it with no drama, no breaker bar. There are marks and a gap in the teeth on tue steering wheel. Take pictures of how it is lined up…on mine the notches were a fraction of a mm off from the marks from the factory. The pic helped me get it spot on. The torque spec on the bold when you reassemble is 80Nm / ~59 ft pound - I added some blue loctite from a loctite stick. Also, the bolt that holds the column in place also goes through the sensor - I had to back it out a bit more to remove the sensor. I used masking tape to mark each trim piece, eg: cruise, tilt, voice… I didn’t have to remove the one on the signal stalk. And, the Merc part comes with the center ring locked in the proper place… just remove the lock and don’t f- it up by moving it when placing it on the column assembly.
I ha e question. I it nessesery to rotate it till the end in both sides? Or you can rotatte it left till stops and the two turns right till arrows mach? Or is not so important which side you will rotate it till stops... The important is to rotate it two times back!! Thank You,
Very good video. And I just take that sensor apart and clean/ wipe with spirit. ( Kind of plasti disk with short strips along, like signal Morse) Short test shows good, no warning signs. Will see for how long it'll be
Thanks for the video. It helped me get over the mental hurdle of doing it myself. If it's OK with you can I please add some comments to highlight some of the differences in my early W21. I did my repair to replace the combination switch that had a broken wire caused by a sharp plastic flash on the inside of the cover. MIne is a 2003 model and has a smaller steering wheel angle sensor that looks much more like the one shown on the Pelicanparts website. So while I did pull out the steering column assembly I did not have to undo the final three screws at the back to remove the combination switch And the steering wheel bolt is super tight. I had to use a large torque wrench with a 500mm long handle to remove it while my son held the steering wheel. The torque to do it up again is 80Nm Also, I didn't need to disconnect the battery but what I did do was open the doors and then let the car sit for an hour.
Hi, your video is awesome and really well explained. But it has left me really confused. In a Pelican Parts writeup, it shows that the angle sensor is a much smaller part that comes off after the clockspring is removed. And it does not require the removal of the steering column. Could it be that this part changed over the years? My car is a 2003 E320 and I need to remove the combination switch.
My car, 05 E320 Sedan W211.065 has an emergency battery in addition to the one main battery you showed. It's at least for the electronic brake system. I wonder if it also powers the air bags. Thanks.
Great video - thanks. Made changing the sensor real easy. The steering wheel position is typically marked from the factory, so you can usually go by these marks.
Thanks for the video. I was able to replace the steering angle sensor in my 2007 SLK 350 using your instructions. It's nice to have cruise control again.
Jeffrey Twomley hi I have a SLK350 2006. I get the esp warning and n49 code. What did you replace, the angle sensor or the clock spring? Hope you can help
Vladimir Burakov I had problem with the sensor . Star diagnosis told me it need replacing but it actually fixed itself . There is plastic “hammer” inside it which control how much you turn your wheel and if it’s in wrong position (like mine was) esp will show on dashboard as it thinks you driving fast and car become oversteered or you loosing control over it - which is not happening of course.
Turn counter wise to the end then 2 rotations clockwise and that’s it. That what’s written on the part. Why to rotate it twice clockwise if instructions on the part do not tell you to. After all - the best video to fix ESP and to learn how it works.
Irmantas Balciunas i did buy it today by mercedes benz self for my e220 cdi for 132€ so its not so pricy, just buy a new one so you don't have problems with it
The way you show the removal of the airbag leads is incorrect . The locking tabs must first be lifted before the terminals are unplugged to prevent damage to the terminals .
Yes I think it should be done as You say.Although I did without lifting those tabs. Those tabs should not allow plugs to be realesed but mine pop with gentle touch of screwdriver...
Zrobilem zgodnie z instrukcją i działa bez zarzutów.
Thank you, well done. Works for Mercedes 2008 E350 w4. Watch out, the bolt you loosen to get housing off (right, lower bolt that does not fall out), CAN fall out when you are changing the position sensor. You've never seen it, so at first you wonder why it's not IN and tight. It is easy to match to its spot, but better to re- thread in when you have the position sensor off. When you put the steering wheel back on, it will not go all the way down unless it is loosened again. The position sensor will keep it from falling out, when it's on. Part for this steering wheel was a 10mm Allen Wrench (3/8" wide) . Use a Star wrench set (looks like a swiss army knife, with 8 different sized wrenches on it) Worked on all screws and long enough for deep socket. Plus nice cheap tool to keep around for many uses, they have the same thing for Allen Wrenches too.
