Founded as the TU Delft Solar Boat Team, we have been designing, building and racing cutting-edge boats driven by sustainable tech for over 15 years. In 2021, we made the switch from Solar Energy to hydrogen and decided to continue under the name of TU Delft Hydro Motion Team.
The TU Delft Hydro Motion Team is a Dreamteam of the TU Delft. Our team consists of 23 ambitious students with different study backgrounds. Each year a new team builds a new boat made in conjunction with the knowledge of industry experts and the experience of alumni. This project grants the opportunity to test components operating together to accelerate innovation in the maritime industry.
Congratulations on this achievement. Now for real world applications, not foiling because such speeds are not practical for distance in a heavier boat one would live in for several days. Foiling is great for racing and test boats but vulnerable as underwater obstacles are real as are speeding by irresponsible captains. Now, add 2 berths, a galley, a head, for maybe 4 people…basically normal weights a cruising boat would have and find a sustainable cruising solution. Hydrogen from the seawater? A combo of solar/wing sails? Real world applications basically.
Goed begin.
Once again the TU Delft team has inspired the world ! Congratulations guys ! (And girls of COURSE ! 😉) Nice boat ! This year your vessel’s design has become very classic in appearance. It harkens back to the classic speedboats of the early 20th century. This may in fact inspire even more people to adopt these new technologies because they can see how it can be adopted into a traditional vessel.
Hoi Hydromotion team 2024, I am now retired but I wish you a lot of success with your challenge. From experience of the past few years I know that you go for 100 % and then success is reachable . Success Ruud Breedijk former metalworking advisor Dormer Pramet
Good Luck Team Delft ! I’ve been following your school’s progress for years now. Don’t forget that you stand on the shoulders of giants. Please Keep this fine tradition going for the future… not only for the future of the team, but for the future of the whole world ! 🌍 🌎
Hi. Great work and congratulations to the team! Did you measure hydrogen consumption? Do you have some battery storage? Do you have technical description of foil control system?
