Hello fellow LS7 Pilot! Put some water in it (50-60kg) especially tail, make sure your in optimal w&b (10KG range), and fly her above 95 km/h in most thermals, and you will be very happy in it. :)
Hi Folken, so yes, sometimes I'll fly with a barrel a side (2 x 25kg) if it's a good day. It still goes well dry though! My normal thermaling speed is 55kts or 60kts if heavy. I'm fairly heavy - my son is lighter and he prefers flying with 2 weights in the nose. I believe that it likes having a more forward CG than a lot of gliders.
I started with the nose fairly high and at the point where there was significant buffet I've applied full pro-spin controls (full left rudder and full back stick) to make the aircraft depart. The full up elevator produced a small pitch up before the wing was sufficiently stalled to make the nose drop. In contrast, the earlier stall in the turn was starting to drop into a turn without that pitch up as I didn't apply any further pro-spin control.
It's just below the radio out of shot - not ideal as I usually have to move my leg out of the way and peer round the stick to see it. On the other hand, the Oudie can display altitude and the vario is now set up to show feet above where it was switched on.
Bruce Porteous fair enough. I've an LS7WL so I know the issues with panel space. But being a primary instrument I'd personally have it in sight. Great little video! _lh3.googleusercontent.com/5YEUGBDhPK2Fqe7e2fDYZ2mgU6ANqpQaQH-lNLvqaR4W29avuJjmMbNfVmJHXL6-B0RGeYO9Fg_
Thanks. Yes, so I'd like to re-build the panel at some point and replace the S160 vario with an S80 at which point I'd be able to move the altimeter to somewhere a little more visible and have the option of having a horizon for cloud flying. In practice though, it's not really a problem. So how do you like your LS7 ?
It's Fab. I've rebuilt mine and have an S80! Also just remade the fabric panels. _lh3.googleusercontent.com/O6Q-aPuaVWPydmUglhwGKzewlXxxdGTfMBQXNSAOozxUjc6klhw9VTxxaWJeZ4nqtvJ4jRdgpw_
It says it's an "Unbottle 70" - think the current model is this one: international.camelbak.com/en/packs/R01036--Unbottle_2L?color=e0fcec6daa2c4ddaaaf57dcc8af49b8d Sits nicely on the shelf behind my head. Worth making sure it's positively turned off at the mouthpiece as if you sit on it the next thing you know is you've got a cold damp feeling!
