I saw a thing where gadd did a shuffle using both hands playing the same shuffle pattern, left on snare, right on ride cymbal. Its thick, its greasy its gadd.
I don’t know how to explain it but Joey has a much better vibe, he got that “snappy” and “smooth” feeling and the whole “Slipknot vibe. It looks like Jay and Eloy just does it technically good but Joey puts his soul in the song and uses the drum kit like if it was a part of himself. But still much respect for Jay and Eloy for keeping Slipknot alive! RIP Joey ❤️
The mid/mid comparison and high/ high comparison were MUCH CLOSER in sound than this. They both sound similar mid and they both sound similar high The mid/high comparison here is laughable "We chose the best" No, no you didn't. You ruined the comparison
I love this guy. I love this,,,guy! Yes I have a slight of shame but that's cause I know better than to let the rudiments rust and so on. . And bein grater makes shredding easier so it's time! 🙏
So glad you mentioned old brown shoe...ringo kills it on that....and the unison build up strokes on the floor and and snare are very difficult to get even due to the tempo...
@@StephenTaylorDrums I got u. Scissors goes off on the drum cam. All of his drum came go off. Eloy just goes off lol and with slipknot it's something special 💯
I learned about this at Stephen's AMAZING Drum Shed (Level 2) this summer (shameless endorsement for the man himself). Among so many other things I learned, I will certainly never forget the Flat Tire Shuffle. In fact I am playing it in a song tomorrow night at a gig, and I am stoked to put it into service! If you're thinking about taking a trip to Columbia for some Drum Shed....DO IT!
WTF, those drums sound great! They’re probably birch or maple shells, the copper is just the wrap. I can see why maintenance would be a nightmare, and they were probably prohibitively expensive.
AI can't write lyrics very well either. Has no idea about metre, it always sticks to basic rhymes, never does anything interesting, and has nothing to express. Why there are people out there who think that AI will replace artists I just don't know.
Thanks. This is a great video. Very helpful. It would have been nice to see the same beat for the A/B. The steady quarter notes on the high hat you do in the A. Thanks again, subbed!
I have a ton of gripes with my ekit but I'm eternally grateful that I can play for long periods of time, any time of day, as hard as I want in my duplex apartment. Sure, I've had 3 different sets of neighbors in the past year and a half, but I'm choosing to believe that's for unrelated reasons 🤷♂️
Cheap drums tend to warp or break after some time. That’s what matters. The rest can be compensated by using different drum heads and some tuning work. Unless they lose their tuning due to super cheap screws. Then they need to go.
Pay attention kids! Class is in session. Exactly right on the money. You can define a killer drummer by their deep vocabulary of shuffles. Well done kind sir.
I've been playing the drums for about a year now and I can confidently say that this video in specific has helped me more then any other resource out there and I am forever grateful. Thank you for all the valuable lessons!
We called that a “Texas Shuffle.” Never heard it as “flat tire.” (PS- That hi-hat variation is exemplified on a **GREAT** tune by Johnny Adams called “One Foot in the Blues;” oddly, the same basic groove is used by Bill Bruford on the King Crimson tune called “Matte Kudasai.” Great topic!!)
@@StephenTaylorDrums Yeah, maybe it’s just the Northeast? But I was in deep with some of the older blues guys, and that’s what they always called it. Although one called it a “backwards shuffle” (lol).
