This is awesome! As a Badger who recently left Madison, I really miss the group fitness classes. I especially miss Raquel's zumba class. Would the zumba class be on youtube someday?
Hi Ting! We're so excited to hear you've been enjoying our group fitness videos. We don't have any immediate plans to add Zumba videos to our channel, but we do have a monthly Virtual Group Fitness Pass available for non-members, if you're interested. Then you can join Raquel's class live! Visit recwell.wisc.edu/groupfitness for more information: recwell.wisc.edu/groupfitness/#pass and let us know if you have any questions.
I am grateful for you sharing this practice so that I may have a sense of wellness and joy every day. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to strengthen my spirituality through Temple Beth El of City Island and Congregation Shaarei Shamayim. I am grateful to my family and friends for their belief in me even while we must keep our distance.
You disappoint starting at 3:56..."Aquatics". How does the university (Rec and Athletics) propose a $223 million dollar project that simultaneously destroys a successful swim program... and then creates a promotional video highlighting the pools at Indiana, Minnesota and Ohio State (all historically great swimming programs)?!
I hope the referrendum will include consideration of a new indoor pool. You can see from the other B1G rec facilities (Iowa, Minnesota) long course competition pools that are "subdivided" into separate pool areas used for lap swimming, water polo, and the like during non-competition times. It would seem like logical space utilization, particularly in our climate, where an outdoor pool would be kinda crazy.
Thanks for your comment, Leonard. Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner. You can read more about the competition pool on our blog: uwmadisonrecsports.wordpress.com/2014/01/29/rec-sports-responds-to-news-article-pool-questions/
Good luck with your improvement plan! Purdue's was just finished last fall, and it is an ENORMOUS success! Looking at the UW pictures just reminds me of the sad state our CoRec was in, save our natatorium which was greatly improved and expanded in 2001.
Will seg fees increase for this? Because UW already has some of the highest seg fees in the big ten (if not the highest), and I don't see what they're used for.
You can see a break down of your segregated fees on the Office of the Registrar webpage. The allocation of segregated fees for Rec Sports is actually one of the smallest amounts compared to the Big Ten, and by a substantial amount. Rec Sports is doing everything possible to keep seg fees from increasing significantly until doors open on each new facility, not when the referendum is passed. However, if the referendum for new facilities is not passed, an increase in segregated fees is inevitable for maintenance and repair of the existing facilities.
Can I GET A HOTTUB!!! Seriously, lets go roman on the big ten and have some pools at different temperatures for people to sit in! And of course a larger room for free weights
Why are we compared to the Big10 and not other UW-System schools? Unless this can be done without increasing student tuition, I can't support this plan.
Good question. We are comparing ourselves to other Big Ten schools because we consider these institutions our peers in terms of campus size. However, if you take a look at the other UW-System schools, our facilities are still behind. As far as your question about increases in student tuition, it is our goal to have segregated fees increase as each new facility opens for use. So you would not have to pay for facilities that you are not able to use (however as an alumnus, you would have the opportunity to also use the new facilities). If the plan does not pass, there will still be an increase in seg fees in order to maintain and repair existing facilities.
I have been working out at the Nat. since I arrived on the U.W. campus in 1979. Other than a few minor renovations, some new equipment and moving that equipment from one room to another very little has changed. WE NEED IMPROVED FACILITIES!! I have to pick very off hours to work out because if I go any other times during the day the wait for equipment/a swimming lane doubles my workout time. I don't have that much time to waste. Love you U.W.!!!
