I was at Swinderby January - March 1985. Started on 11 Flt (Sgt Everard & Cpl Jenner), got back flighted by the Rock Apes for messing up on my TOETS and went to 4 Flt (Sgt Cooling & Cpl Ayris). This is soooo bloody watered down lol. My first morning inspection on my new Flt went something like: "Give me your beret, Brennan..." and then having my bed overturned with all my kit on it because I hadn't polished the back plate of my capbadge or the brass studs on the feet of my bed! The language was a little more colourful than the Flt Commander and the Sgt on here (8 mins), and their acting was a lot less 'wooden' too! I got out in March 2000 having done Cyprus, Belize, Germany, the Gulf, the Falklands and the Nijmegen Marches. I then did 8 years in the TA and finally hung up my beret and boots as a Sergeant.

Wow that takes me back to the Summer of 1988. Does anyone remember "The Spinny run?" during MFT? Brilliant Video. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of our Drill Cpl maybe because he destroyed half my brain cells whilst shouting and spitting at me 1" from my face. I really didn't think a person could shout so loudly. It vibrated my inner organs lol

Did my 6 weeks there in 1970. Nothing like how you see it here. Thankfully, I didn’t have go through the gas chamber. Went 12 years without doing that. The DI’s were fair, but firm. The times we had to clear up the strewn bedding off the floor, or upturned beds. The ‘U’ tables formation as we were called in to have our numerous jabs. Followed by rifle drill the following morning. All in all, it wasn’t a bad 6 weeks. It could have been a lot worse.

RAF Swinderby..........1982! I thought it was a Great Laugh, I was asked what trade, Gunner I said, the instructor smiled and turned away. Six weeks later I arrived at RAF Catterick.........................................................................................................................................................................................I didn't laugh much there! Swinderby 1978 . Instructors were Sgt Lillywhite (no joke) and Corporal Loaney . Corporal Loaney loved his booze and you could see in his eyes at 6am that he’d been on it the night before . We paid physically for his hangover ! However , good days and bad days and most of all Friends for life! Thoroughly enjoyed it !

I did almost 8 years in the RAF...passing out of Swinderby in June 1989...this video (albeit very 'watered' down), certainly brought back a few memories...I can remember GDT (Ground Defence Training) when we done it, being absolutely horrendous...(we were absolutely 'beasted' in extreme heat I recall)...I actually got 'back-flighted' a week...I didn't listen to the 'Rock Ape' instructor about wearing cotton socks under the woolen ones, (it stops the friction rubbing on the bare skin of your heels when running)...thought I'd be clever and just wear cotton ones, because it was hot...and...you guessed it...ended up with massive blisters on the back of both heels (had to get them both drained off)...and couldn't walk let alone run...absolute agony...(certainly learnt my lesson!!!)...Great times though looking back, serving in Germany, Cyprus, Denmark, Canada, Falklands and various UK stations...Sadly, a lot of these bases are now closed...but I'll never forget a lot of the friends and comrades I made during my military service...

Good lord! That CPL is a blast from my past. CPL Walton was a top person but my god if she got angry you'd know about it. CPL Mayer! Another genuinely nice bloke and always praised you if you did well. However, if you didn't then there was the hairdryer treatment. I've seen grown men shake when he did that.
