Joyce DiDonato is an American national treasure. If you have not had the pleasure of watching her relatively recent Met Opera Agrippina performance it is wonderful.

In answer to my own question below: von Otter *has* done Op 91 complete, on DGG, with Forsberg and Nils-Erik Sparf on viola (the original instrumentation). *Very* fine performances of both parts of the opus; and I suppose, as a violist myself, I should prefer that version. But Torleif Thedéen on cello brings a magical, ineffable, extra element to the work--spiritually at one with the singer. Exquisite live performance.
Has she done the other song of Op 91 with these performers? The cellist is wonderful. Pianist too. Above all, what a wonderful balance and communication between all three--microtimings, subtle nuances of expressions... delicious, gorgeous beyond words.
Stillet die Wipfel! The work is Brahms at his tenderest, and this performance is transcendent. Surely stilled not just the treetops but the stars themselves.
Which of Zubin Mehta's many orchestras? and what venue? Such wonderful bite, sinew, and drive to the accompaniment, and OH 1:42 -- not to mention around 3:20... oh heck, the whole thing! She's so, SO good, wow. Her face is beautifully expressive as she sings too, and such a nice nod to Mehta at end.
What amazing control and projection. It's really hard to "act drunk", and to pull it off in *song*--sounding and looking drunk--while still getting the diction clear, is nothing short of amazing. Von Otter is terrific. Also very open-minded and cross-genre. A model to emulate!

I heard Joyce perform for the first time today (July 2024) while listening to Aussie ABC Radio Classic. I had not heard of her before now. Got a lot of catching up to do, and just found out she is coming Down Under in November 2025. I will be in the audience with my buddy who is tenor.
To be able to so fully get into the Emotion of the song. I Wish Joyce could teach Me how to do it!!. How she’s on the verge of tears BEFORE she even utters a single word. 😚👌
