Welcome to my channel! I'm an animation veteran who has been directing and storyboarding on some of your favorite cartoons since the late 90's. Still very active. You will find samples of my work along with other fun, nerdy stuff, Like CARTOON INSIDER PRESENTS and DUNGEON AND DUDES. Enjoy!
Please do more Vinton. You’re an excellent host! Would love to see you reminisce with Yost and fine for EMH, Weisman and Vietti and Cook for YJ/Spectacular, Capizzi with The Batman, etc. You’ve got a lot to offer us fans and thanks for all you do!
Great interview! Loved hearing you and Rick talk about Avengers EMH. That, '97 and The Spectacular Spider-Man (which I know you storyboarded on) are my favorite Marvel TV Shows. I hope you both get to return to EMH with an "EMH'12" revival someday!
the electromagnetic field for earth was eroded by Mageneto, the earth would lose that shielding and would be subjected to solar flares that would kill all of earth. Thats why magneto needed to be stopped and reverse his pulse.
Great show. Glad you brought back the OGs for their takes on the 97 show and giving us old nuggets of info about the past shows. Looking forward to copious amounts of En Saba Nur next season on 97.
Okay so 97 might be the best thing Marvel has ever put out. WOW. bar non its the best animated, 97 and LOKI are close, maybe just Endgame in movies. Bravo
This is awesome ❤❤❤ my favorite cartoon is the original X-Men TAS and now I have X-Men 97 to continue it and make it even that much better. I'm a 10 year old again and I'm so grateful. Thank you for all that you do.
This was another fun listen! Hopefully, you can have everyone return for more of these down the line. Some random and not-so-random comments and observations: My original VHS copy of Pryde of the X-Men broke some time way back in the 90s, but I picked up two additional copies off eBay over the years (the SP version and an SLP/EP version) and finally converted over a copy to my computer last year, though I have always wondered who actually owns the rights to the show at this point. I would love to see it show up one day to stream somewhere in an official capacity, or, better yet, receive an official release on DVD or Blu-Ray or SOMETHING. Not only was Asteroid M the focal point of the last episode (and third act of the previous episode), but all of the characters who first appeared in Pryde (Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Nightcrawler) were wearing the same uniforms as there as well. I remember reading a story some time long ago how network executives and producers on children's shows believed that all kids loved monkeys, so they would try to work sort of baboon or chimp or some other sort of pet into their shows and Mrs. Lion was a consequence of that. With all the cameos and crossovers, I do believe X-Men & Spider-Man (Fox), Iron Man and Fantastic Four (Syndicated) and Incredible Hulk (UPN) are all in the same continuity. I did find it interesting that Iron Man's armor was the version from season 1 of the animated series and not the revamped version from season 2 or the modified version from his guest appearances on Spider-Man. I'm also happy that Peter seemingly located the real, time-displaced Mary Jane. -- Now they just need to sneak the Power Pack in there somewhere for season 2. Open it up to a whole new audience! 🤫 If anyone reading this might not be aware, Kevin Feige was an assistant working at Richard and Laura Donner's production company. Thanks to his encyclopedia knowledge of Marvel, he utilized that on the set of the first X-Men film to the point where they decided to give him the honorary title of Assistant Producer. Every subsequent Marvel movie through Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (excluding only Blade Trinity and Ghost Rider, I believe), his 'Producer' credit continued to expand, until he became the primary producer for Marvel Studios' own films. "Cable" was actually created by Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson in New Mutants #86; however, Simonson left a little over half a year later and Fabian Nicieza took over the series for the last few issues before it was relaunched as X-Force, which he wrote, as well Cable's original 2-issue miniseries and the first year of Cable's ongoing series, including the arc where it is finally revealed that Cable is Nathan Summers. Nicieza also co-created Deadpool with Liefeld, wrote the first Deadpool miniseries and came back some years later to write the 50-issue run of 'Cable & Deadpool.' As an aside, Nicieza also finished the writing duties on Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor during the "Muir Island Saga" arc when Chris Claremont left the book mid-way through writing Uncanny X-Men #279. (Many people often think Claremont left directly after X-Men (Vol. 2) #3, but those three issues were written in advance. The Muir Island Saga was a lead-in to the launch of that book and the new X-Factor team!) Another Scott Lobdell item... he wrote the miniseries 'The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix,' where the consciousness of Scott and Jean are willed 2,000 years into the future in the bodies of two people named "Slym" and "Redd" by their time-displaced daughter from an alternate timeline (Rachel, going by the name Mother Askani). Before returning to their bodies in the present, they end up raising Nathan for 12 years, teaching him how to control his powers and to overthrow Apocalypse, while never revealing their true identities. That is where Scott and Jean find themselves at the end of the last episode. Cable also foreshadows this earlier in the episode during their "good-byes" when he mentions being told stories about the X-Men as a child. This was fun listening to everyone. Hopefully, you can get Will Meugniot to come back and talk about his other shows as you had mentioned. If you are able to get him back, I would be curious to know how he became involved with the Street Fighter animated series that aired on USA. I notice that numerous X-Men TAS writers, including Eric and Julia Lewald, worked primarily on season 2, but that Will Meugniot has a story/writing credit on all but one episode of season 2. I rather enjoyed the series. The final form of Bastion comes from the "Second Coming" story arc that ran through the X-Men books in 2010. His final goal of "saving humanity from humanity" is another callback that replicates the assessment Master Mold made in the final episode from the first season of the original X-Men series (The Final Decision) when he turns on Boliver Trask after determining that mutants ARE humans, so must be protected from themselves. Master Mold begins sending Sentinels out to capture world leaders and integrate their brains as computers and the only one we actually see them attempting this on is then-Senator Kelly. In X-Men '97, the Prime Sentinels also show up at the White House to go after President Kelly. [[The X-Men take out Master Mold and the Sentinels at the base, but we never do find out what happened to the ones that were already sent out to capture the world leaders]] X-Men '97 has the best representation of Cyclops in any Marvel media outside of the comics. Only took 61 years! Of course, the character has had ups and downs in the comics going back to 1986 when they made him a deadbeat dad and had him instantly leave his wife and son to go be with the newly resurrected Jean. Chris Claremont fought against both Jean's return and Scott leaving his family for X-Factor, but was overruled by management. To make matters worse, the original writer of X-Factor left the series less than half a year in and new writer Louise Simonson was left to pick up the pieces. Claremont later said he and Louise Simonson basically spent 2 years doing the 'Inferno' story solely to show that Scott's wife was an evil clone and everything was an orchestrated scheme with Mr. Sinister to try and redeem Cyclops's character. Also, Cyclops' Mega Optic Blast against Bastion appears to be pulled from the Capcom arcade fighting games. 😉
I cannot believe you guys do this, it's sublime and apropos. Please DO feel free to maybe bide time between seasons by reviewing the OG series 1 by 1. I guarantee you'll pick up a massive audience for it! Looking forward to seeing you guys more if so!
Cap had his shield in the White House and if I remember correctly Tony Stark was the one who set up Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends room on the show.
X-Men '97 is awesome. It was great seeing the original creators discuss the finale. All of the first impressions were a joy to watch. Thank you to everyone who worked on the original show. Life as a 90's kid was even better because of X-Men: The Animated Series. Myself and many others became lifelong X-Men fans due to the show.
Thank you to all those amazing people who poured their heart and soul into the original show. The X-Men would not be the household names they are today without your work ❤
Getting help from Toei was really important 🤯 OMG, I mean I loved Spidey and his Amazing Friends but that animation . . . Pryde Of The X-Men looked as good as G.I. Joe and Transfomers! Along with the voice cast 🤯🤯🤯
Hi on the next one could you ask or talk about the animation process and how long it takes and how many animators work on a single episode . Also would like to know how long Larry was retired for before he got the call to come back for 97 and he ever hoped it would happen.
adam x is a half-brother, vulcan is brother to scott and alex. he was in their mother's stomach and surgically taken out before she died, raised in the shi'ar empire and he followed d'ken, married deathbird, and ruled the shi'ar empire
I was 13 when it premired on fox kids at 10.00am in 1992 I forgot the month I'm turning 45 this week and it's so cool to see this show return continues the story's from 30 plus years later..
The Summer’s brother Larry Houston is referring to that can boil blood is Adam-X (Adam Neramani). He’s a baby made from Lilandra’s brother D’Ken DNA and Scott’s mom.
It is nice listening to the insight and behind the scenes in this and the previous video! Excellent work all around! Some thoughts and observations... I would also give a shout out to Scott Lobdell. He was the primary writer on Uncanny X-Men (and later the second X-Men title) in the 90s, lasting for 7 years after Claremont left the series (following a few issues with John Byrne returning). Most people who grew up during and coming out of the Claremont era tend to be either hit or miss with his run, but Lobdell was the writer responsible for creating The X-Cutioner and Bastion, including being the main writer for Operation Zero Tolerance. He also co-wrote the Fatal Attractions issues (along with Fabian Nicieza) that episode 9 is based around. He also co-created and named Onslaught (prior to the character's full reveal) *IF* the show ends up going that route, which is the speculation. The other "Summers Brother" that I believe Larry was eluding to is Adam-X (Adam Neramani) from some early 90s X-Force issues. He was in a handful before vanishing for the better part of two decades. He recently returned in X-Men Legends, a short-lived anthology series from classic creators that Marvel released during the pandemic. It would be fun to see the Starjammers return and then Corsair, Cyclops and Cable (all 'C' names, humorously) can have a very awkward family reunion. How I explained using the classic costumes away was that several members of the X-Men damaged their uniforms fighting the Prime Sentinels and didn't have access to backup uniforms due to the destruction at the mansion, so they go back and get the old ones. Of course, this doesn't explain what happened to Jean and Scott's uniforms from the previous episode, or where Roberto or Nathan got theirs from. Although it is not referenced in the show, Magneto was "reborn" as an infant in issues of The Defenders after the Silver Age X-Men ended and before Giant Size relaunched them. When he returned to adulthood, it was in a seemingly much younger body. He even gets revenge on the X-Men in issue #112 by taking them hostage and having a robot nanny tend to them as babies. One of the reasons why a holocaust survivor would still have as much vitality in 1997 (at least in the comics!) -- I know you indicated you were a Claremont/Byrne person, but since that took place before they were on the series, I figured I would point it out if you didn't already know. By coincidence, Elliot S. Maggin wrote the second episode of "Time Fugitives" from the original animated series where Jean sees a glimpse of Scott and Madelyne as Cable's father that Larry mentioned earlier. 😉 I remember looking forward to that Captain America series and then discovering it was cancelled. I had read (probably in issues of Wizard) that it kept shifting between being a modern series or one set in World War II and that also they were trying to find a way to incorporate certain "forbidden" aspects in the show without actually acknowledging them, but Hydra was already pushing it for Saturday Morning television.
I would love to see that three minute opening Larry had created, the openings have been absolutely amazing! Loving these interviews, thank you to all three of you.
This was a great interview/discussion. I hope you can bring these guys back at the end of X-Men97. This is the third time I've heard about how great 'Scavengers Reign' is, I need to check it out.
