Yes and eternal punishment also was not in this story from Judiasim before the Roman Catholic Church. Ever wonder what would happen if the Nazis won the war in WWII. Well this happened before sort of its called the Roman Catholic Church. Any form of belief of eternal punishment you are believing in the Roman Catholic Church not the God of Israel.
The early Christians didn't have many church buildings, but they certainly had a Church. "See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is administered either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude of the people also be; even as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church." -Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Smyrnaeans, Ch 8 [110 AD] Although some New Testament books were widely accepted in the first centuries, debate over the New Testament canon didn't end until almost the fifth century.
While the early Christians did meet in houses and catacombs to avoid persecution, their worship wasn't a small group bible study. It centered around offering the Eucharist as a sacrifice for sin. Also, they didn't have an agreed upon set of New Testament scriptures, so they largely relied on the traditions taught by the Apostles. The church had a hierarchical structure with bishops, priests, and deacons to maintain doctrinal unity amidst the constant threat of heresy.
This thing is that first the apostle paul says.In hebrews 10:1-18, That jesus's sacrifice on the cross was the final sacrifice, and, that god established a new covenant with his people through his blood that does not rely on traditions, Yeah, they didn't have a new Testament formally, But they still put their trust in jesus in his teachings that were passed down through word of mouth, And in the book of acts, it describes that it was through the power of the holy spirit that the church was able to grow, It was not by the power or traditions of the apostles, And they did things in the authority of jesus christ Even the early church was divided in some ways, I mean, the church is supposed to be the body of believers, And paul talks about that even in some of his letters, where he gives an example Of where some believers believed that you still had to be circumcised, Ironically looking back at past Traditions, We are saved solely by the blood of Jesus, And anyone who puts their trust in him truly Is a brother or sister in christ, No matter what church they go to. You are not saved by doing the eucharist.
@@bingarray "You are not saved by doing the Eucharist." In Exodus, the Israelites sacrificed and ate the Passover lamb to be delivered from the bondage of Egypt. For years later, the Jews continued to offer the Passover lamb as a sign of their covenant with God. God established the New Covenant through the sacrifice of the new pascal lamb, Jesus. And like the sacrifice of the Old Covenant, we must consume the sacrifice. That's why Jesus says in John 6 that his flesh is true food and his blood true drink. In the New Covenant, we offer Christ's one sacrifice to God the Father for the forgiveness of sins and as a sign of our Covenant. It's worth pointing out that this understanding of the Eucharist was universal within the early Church, dating back to the first century. Below is a quote from the Didache, a writing that was considered scripture by some in the early Church. Your theology regarding the Eucharist was unknown before the modern era. “Assemble on the Lord’s day, and break bread and offer the Eucharist; but first make confession of your faults, so that your sacrifice may be a pure one. Anyone who has a difference with his fellow is not to take part with you until he has been reconciled, so as to avoid any profanation of your sacrifice [Matt. 5:23-24]. For this is the offering of which the Lord has said, ‘Everywhere and always bring me a sacrifice that is undefiled, for I am a great king, says the Lord, and my name is the wonder of nations’ [Mal. 1:11, 14]” (Didache 14 [A.D. 70]).
@BrewMeister27 Dude , what you're talking about is a ceremonial law in the old testament, As you already know in the book of hebrews, it says that god has established a new covenant with his people, Those old ceremonial laws in the book of Exodus are no longer needed, We don't have to do the same sacrifices here today, And those sacrifices you were talking about, in the book of Exodus, were covering the penalty for doing evil, And contributed to salvation, Not like it says in the book of Matthew where 5:23, That verse literally talks about reconciling with your neighbors, Before you give offerings to the church, In other words, make sure your heart is right with god That does not contribute to salvation. Jesus literally told paul that his grace alone is enough in 2 Corinthians 12:9, You're not even using actual bible verses to back up what you're saying, You bring up one of the early church people Saying that people have to do that, But remember That at that time, some people still held on to the old traditions Because the church just barely started And paul says to let them just keep doing that If they're that attached to it, Like when he says, he'll stop eating meat if it causes someone to stumble in 1 Corinthians We don't need to do the same sacrifices that they did back then today, Jesus literally tells the thief on the cross today. You will be with me in paradise, He didn't say first, you should get baptized, and then do the eucharist, And then do all these other good things, and you will be saved, It's solely by his grace alone, Ephesians 2:8-9
@@bingarray The Didache was regarded as Scripture by many Christians for centuries, before the closure of the New Testament canon. So it's not just some person's opinion. Offering the Eucharist as a sacrifice was a universal belief in the early Church. Justin Martyr explicitly teaches it. “God speaks by the mouth of Malachi, one of the twelve [minor prophets], as I said before, about the sacrifices at that time presented by you: ‘I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord, and I will not accept your sacrifices at your hands; for from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, my name has been glorified among the Gentiles, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering, for my name is great among the Gentiles . . . [Mal. 1:10-11]. He then speaks of those Gentiles, namely us [Christians] who in every place offer sacrifices to him, that is, the bread of the Eucharist and also the cup of the Eucharist” (Dialogue with Trypho the Jew 41 [A.D. 155]).
@BrewMeister27 You are overcomplicating, salvation, Jesus told the thief on the cross that today he would be with him in paradise, He was saved solely by grace and nothing else, All the other things you're talking about, are sanctification Not salvation, No physical actions that we do contribute to salvation He established a new covenant, which means We follow what jesus's teachings are. You keep using Old Testament scripture, and Malachi 1:10 Is talking about offerings and incense Not being accepted by god, because their heart is not pure, That's still part of the old covenant. You don't realize that jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, That's why we don't need to do sacrifices.
I love this! We all need and want to feel connected. I can't think of a better way to connect than with small groups. BTW, not cliques... groups. When we're born again of the water and spirit, we become family in Christ. We're all equal.
So Powerful..so Beautiful to see this. I haven't seen this done or got to do this since I was in my 20's I'm 54 now. Some of my greatest memories of servanthood and humility...Praying Blessings on one another and serving them. Thank you for a Beautiful demonstration of servanthood!
