There is a lot of work still to be done. It is gaining traction as the medical profession is also changing and crumbling at the same time due to insurance companies and burnout. It is something that the student needs to take a hard look at themselves and see if they can make it on their own in a rapidly changing market.
Going to be interesting to see how insurance is going to impact the new housing builds as earthquake insurance is really expensive at the moment and some places are having a hard time finding an insurer at all. If you can't get insurance then bank loans aren't feasible and you'll be either just building places for rent or for all cash buyers who will self insure. A very tenuous future for home ownership.
I normally love all things City Cast. Nicole's commentary was more advocacy than reporting. I'm cool with someone coming on with a POV but lets not pretend that its fair reporting.
Trying to use Native stories that have been passed down for thousands for years in order to promote this is pretty sad. I thought Portland cared about cultural appropriation?
Thanks for walking us through the new form of government… super helpful. I’ve heard summaries a dozen or more times over the years, and the more I hear it, the more it makes sense and sounds logical… and it’s a big deal that we are at a place to move forward and try a new way to get things done -especially more cool to get things done with people who are specialists in their areas of responsibility 🎉.
Nice find. I'm in Mendo now but was born in PDX and used to prowl the head shops and record stores and the park blocks in the 60's for .... reasons. Good to pick up an echo of that old vibe. I'm subbed and will be listening in again.
You know you're in a very privileged position in life, when you say that you don't need UBI and so others don't need it as well. Oregonians are some of the hardest-working, most compassionate Americans and we deserve to be properly compensated for propping up a robust, statewide economy, that keeps the life viens of our nation flowing. Producing a GDP greater than New Zealand or Portugal. I don't care if you're rich or poor. At the end of the day, you are an Oregonian and are entitled to enjoy the fruits of your labor. That means, you deserve cold hard cash from the state, to place you in the best position possible to thrive, generally speaking, and also, survive the 50 trillion dollar wealth transfer from the working and middle classes to the 1% of the 1%.
Talk to get former neighbours About her and her family terrorising them Her boys even the youngest one cursing them out And she stood there laughing She is trash
Divestment is not a hard thing to do. It might lead to a more complicated portfolio, but please stop it with the 'Oh, it'll be too difficult' rhetoric. Jim Crow was difficult, and South Africa's Apartheid was difficult, however, divestment is not.
by far the hardest part of fasting is the boredom. If you've never done a multiday fast, you have no idea the enormous amount of your daily time is spent thinking about, preparing, or eating food. Depending on your lifestyle, it can be really hard to fill all that extra free time. If you want a fast to be easy, start it when you are very busy
Anarchists/socialists/communists/far left politics, etc. and Portland have been intertwined for over 100 years. The Wobblies had a huge presence in Portland during the early 1900s, John Reed the journalist and outspoken Socialist/Communist who would document the Russian Revolution from Moscow and then end up living in Russia was from Portland, Bush Sr. named Portland "Little Beirut" and swore to never step foot in the city again, and there are many other examples of Portland's deep connections to anarchism and the far left. But at the same time, Portland has also been the home of a police force in the 1920s that was made up almost entirely of KKK members, Oregon and Portland have been one of the most racist places in the entire US(Deep South states included)and have had some the most drastic and longest lasting race laws, did you also know that the only American city that Adolph Hitler visited was.....you guessed it, Portland. Hitler was wined and dined for 4 or 5 days by Portland politicians and the police with parades, fancy dinners and a fancy ball. And to top it all off, the citizens who came out and protested Hitler and fascism, were illegally arrested and thrown in jail for the duration of Hitlers visit.
Hi, I’m from almost 2 months in the future! Same copy/paste response letters in my digital mailbox and no one can be contacted other than through Facebook messenger. I will be homeless at the end of the month due to denial of benefits. Glad they “updated” the system!
Haha a restaurant getting fined for having cooking smell. What a time we live in. Next in the news, a pond owner is getting a fine for the area being wet.
Also when you get help and are on meds, it's hard not to wonder why the people you knew / came in contact w/ were not friendlier or invited you to more stuff. I don't know why that is, if they didn't like you or they are insecure / uncomfortable or whatever, but decades of being alone and then having hope and realizing no one cared or really ever wanted to hang out or was even open to it truly sucks. Before meds I always thought texting and asking people to do stuff and try being more outgoing by doing activities was the best way to make friends, but that never worked, I still don't know why. I try to be the opposite of how I was treated and just invite a bunch of people to do things, knowing most people won't shop up, but at least I tried and no one else did and maybe someone won't feel so alone since you can't read other people's minds or how they feel. Just try to talk to people, have zero expectations and don't ruminate on it too much after and move on. I used to spend days thinking about people judging me, looking at me, thinking I could read their minds, zeroing in on stuff for days / weeks after it happened. Not anymore. Just seek help if you can ❤ The self-help section at the bookstore is another good idea, no one ever told me they had books on depression, social anxiety, etc. That was way more helpful than a therapist as well, you can do stuff on your own time, find what you like, realize that you're not all alone in your weird thinking, etc and that there are millions just like you even though you likely feel all alone and like no one understands.
These people are morons. Getting on meds for social anxiety and depression did more for me than any therapist or anyone's advice on how to make friends. It makes you more social and understand how to have conversations and make friends anywhere. Before the only advice I basically got from therapists was join a club or family recommended bars. Well, you're still going to feel the same/insecure if you have social anxiety or depression, so getting help is step 1 and all you have to do is tell your doctor you want to talk to them about these issues or others you may have, fill out a 1-5 scare 20 question questionnaire, doctor reviews it, asks you some questions and prescribes you some meds. Literally not a big deal, even thought for someone with depression or social anxiety, it can take years / decades to seek help. Going to bars just costs a lot of money IMHO and as an introvert, I always preferred to not go to bars and being shy / social anxiety it never helped when I was in one with friends or at music shows, too much in my head to talk to people. Getting on meds was the biggest game changer. Now I an the conversation starter and realize, you can talk to many people, maybe someone will want to hang out, people are busy or you're not their main focus, don't take it personally and move on. Not sure if that would help anyone, but that's my experience and don't listen to anyone that says the weather is why you can't meet people, that is BS.
Bill Gates has plans for many nuclear power plants and an Australian company is trying to restart Uranium mining in Eastern Oregon...by the way this silly interview is unlistenable - sounds like a middle school book report
The US company NuScale has given up on the SMR and discontinued the project, 11-2023. Once again it was stupid for the nuclear power plants. The SMR was just nonsense squared anyway.
