The Cloud Gate Culture and Arts Foundation is a private non-profit organization, with a mission to create and perform dance, to promote cultural activities, and to facilitate cultural development and cross-cultural exchange. It operates the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan founded in 1973, the Cloud Gate 2 founded in 1999 (restructured to become one Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan in 2019) and the Cloud Gate Theater in Tamsui which opened in 2015.
In addition to continuously supporting and presenting outstanding performances from Taiwan and the world, the Foundation focuses on developing local talents and has initiated the “Art Makers Project”, providing young choreographers with financial aids to create and rehearse their dance works at Cloud Gate Thea

Lin Hua Ming is the Taiwan National Treasurer in terms of Modern dance. His father was the head of the executive Yuan ( head of congress) and was against his son engaging in dance. We are lucky that he followed his passion.
Chinese and Japanese calligraphy are written in black ink with brush. At the end of each stroke, ( not wild stroke),the calligrapher will pause. That’s why the first dancer paused her body shortly. Since the dancers are the brushes or the strokes, they wear black clothes.
The last dancer posted still and turned into a black silhouette, an isolated shadow. The shadow is symbolizing a written Chinese word returning to its original form. Amazing!
The last section, I see group of wild calligraphy strokes jumping randomly across the scroll demonstrating the writer’s energy, passion and artistry. Very impressed and moved by their presentation.
I love the dancer using her body moments to synchronize with the stroke movement of the calligraphy on the wall. She is writing calligraphy using her body. Great!
