Depending on your level of patience and desire for softness keep folding it up in different directions until suitable. The truly finicky might spend five minutes preparing it. Bass tree leaves, catalpa leaves, any big leaf works. Corncobs weren't used. If you were that gullible that you tried a corncob then you might also be offered a snipe hunting trip 😉 Anybody who left a bowl of corncobs by the toilet was just trying to F with city slickers or just did to get a laugh out of guests.
I,m 84 yrs old & my uncle REDER HOLMES had a 2 holer outouse dwn around hyden ky. With 2 bushel basket of corn cobs in his outhouse. 1 pocorn cobs for women & field corn cobs for men.--4-11-24 enjoyed te music.
Just moved up here and its pretty good. Country folks, mostly friendly, always willing to help, and generational wisdoms. Still doesn't beat the magic of the desert but people are better up here.

When I was a little boy, about five years old, I was heading for the outhouse or the office and grandma hollered real loud and said,,,, don't you be looking at that there lingerey,,,, well that Montgomery ward catalog had so many pages it nearly stayed in the office for a year or so, till the new year brought another by horse back,,,, well, I headed to the office to see ifn I could find that there lingerey,, never could find it,,,i think the mail man was a stealing that part of the catalog,, well as time flies by, I grew up into a grown man and I still think that old mail man was a stealing grandma's lingere.
