If you have to ask then no you can't. Home owners, wind and flood insurance runs about $12000 a year if you have a mortgage. Property tax is apx $100/1000 of assessed value. $6000 a year. The airbnbs around us rent for 8-10,000 a month and they won't rent long term if they can rent for that much a month. Even at that price some people come down and rent for 6 months at a time. Home prices in the lower Keys have gone up apx 50% in the last 3 years but we came close to doubling our money with house sitting on open water in 3 years.

How crazy of an idea is that? If you were a single person, where would you choose to live? Could you doc a superyacht down in Key West for a couple months?

I'm hesitant to have an interview for a hotel night manager for 50K a year, and they'd offer housing for 1750. That's in a 96 room hotel, I'm from Mexico and it kind of rare they're looking so far away. I guess we're still cheap labor and idk if it's worth the change if I'm currently in the dame position in a luxury resort in Mexico. Any thoughts?
You’ll have a tough time living here comfortably on $50k. Employers are desperate for staff down here, i’d negotiate yourself a much higher salary for yourself.
Do many people buy boats to live in? What do you know about those who have decided to live on a boat instead of renting/buying? Looking at relocating from full time RV living in Montana selling ALLL our stuff to live on a boat in keywest💕 hard to find information on it!
Good question! Although this is a common desire of many the truth is Its very challenging to find an available live aboard slip in Key West, let alone the keys. Because of this many choose to rent a mooring ball from the City of Key West or City of Marathon but that means no hookups to you’d need to be self contained. There are some facebook groups dedicated to living aboard in the keys so search “Garrison bight mooring field key west” to get started. I was a live aboard myself up near Tampa many years ago so i can speak from experience if you need tips and such. Anchoring out on your own is also an option
That’s the plan is to be basically entirely self sufficient. What was the pros and cons of living aboard? You seem to have some really good information!
Key West sucks I hate the vibe. I would rather live in the Caribbean like Dominican Republic or Playa del Carmen or Riviera Maya Mexico near the beach.
How do most people keep their boats in key west, slips? Or on their properties? What are average costs for slips if you can’t afford waterfront and your own dock?
Hi there, slip prices vary wildly based on availability and location but the average seems to run between $30-$50 per foot. Key west itself only has one canal where you can keep a boat at your home but the other islands have canal front options
Not really many ghettos but there are trailer parks, cheaper homes on Big Pine Key and homes on dry land lots are cheaper than canal lots or open water lots. A Nurse we know paid $800000 for for a 800sf house in Key West 2 years ago.
Parking golf carts is tough for sure. People will complain about all modes of transportation if given the chance so do what makes you most comfortable and ignore the whiners 🙄
Unfortunately thats highly unlikely, prices just continue to climb here regardless of what happens everywhere else. As the old saying goes the best time to buy was yesterday.
You showed our house on Casa Marina Ct when I was in the 7th and 8th grades. That put a smile on my face. My parents wanted to come back to Kentucky our original home in the 1960s.
Why is that unsettling? We were all made by God, and Jesus died for us. Why are you so worried about words? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If people live in a community that supports and encourages each other AND keeps crime down by being good neighbors and working cohesively to establish and maintain healthy mindset, why is that such a negative thing??
