The difference between all these chenille/blanket yarns is that some of them are silkier and velvety, where others are more fuzzy and fleece like. The frustrating part is that the companies don’t adhere to any kind of naming standard. They just slap the word chenille or blanket or velvet on the label, with no regard for its actual texture. I think they just lump all of the soft “shorthaired” yarns with string running through them, together in one category. Which isn’t fair to us. Bernat seems to be the only one (at least that I’ve noticed) that does it correctly. They actually differentiate their Velvet from their Blanket yarn. My own personal opinion is that the silkier ones should be called “Chenille”, and the SUPER silky ones should be called “Velvet”, and the fuzzy fleece yarn should be called “Blanket”. From what I’ve seen, yarns specifically named “BLANKET”, are usually correct across all companies. (in that they’re all fuzzy/fleecy) The problem I always run into is when companies label a yarn “chenille” or even “velvet”, and it turns out to be Blanket instead. I don’t think that decision should be left up to the individual companies. *The Yarn Association* really should develop some kind of naming standard for those types of fibers.
Bernat Baby Blanket (6) is more manageable than the Blanket. Sweet Snuggles Lite is a lite 6 as is Home Chenille. I've not used Parfait Chunky but it looks and seems to work up smaller than the others like a 5. Bernat Blanket is too hard on the hands when using a smaller hook for Amigurumi.

Yes! was really shocked at how thin it was!! I'm using a 5 as well debated going down to a 4.5, as my decreases sometimes have small holes if I'm not careful enough.
