First aircraft I ever flew in was an Islander (G-AXWP) with Aurigny from Southampton Eastleigh to Guernsey - 1972!!

Woah! Slightly jealous as the Islander is on our flying bucket list!

@@ExploreTheWeekendUK I didn’t mean to make you jealous. You’d better not read on then! A couple of years ago I flew from Queenstown in New Zealand’s South Island to Milford Sound - also in an Islander! It was just as good then as it was fifty years ago.

Lovely - you are both so good natured, some would be pulling their hair out by now! Bouley Bay is beautiful - when we stayed there (some years ago, though) the bus took us straight there - obviously not sure of which part you were staying, or if the bus route has changed, but it's a lovely place. Going back to Jersey soon - really love it there x

Ah thank you! The bay is absolutely stunning, and as we found to our great pleasure, there IS a direct bus route to/from, although you just need to check the timings to make sure it picks you up from the bottom of the hill. It's the #4 if memory serves (you'll see us catch it at the start of some of our other videos). If only we'd known that for the first day! Enjoy your trip, we hope you have a great time!!

Lanzarote is BRILLIANT for watching all the little inter-island flights! Lucky enough to go last year on a field trip and spent more time looking at the planes than doing research!!!!

We didn't know much about Guernsey before we arrived, and went in with absolutely no expectations. Completely won us over! Such an amazing place, and we can't wait to go back!

if you had bypassed the stairs, you could have taken the Carpark lift and escalator up to the front entrance to Fort Regent. I use to work on the amphibious ferry's going to Elizabeth Castle and I can assure you that they are as stable as a boat. you can even turn the engine off and it wont capsize in the water. when the tide is up, the beach is 16 meters below the ferry. Jersey has the third fastest moving current in the World, at around a foot per minute. so you need to know the tide times if going to the castle or if you go walking out to rocky outcrops, as the tide can incircle you. the Cabin at the Maritime Museum rocks gently, when it is working. the emergency stop is only there for wheelchairs to get on and off if rocking. the granite building with the woodwork painted blue behind the Liberation Statue, was the Organization Todt offices in WWII. the Pomme D'or Hotel across the road to the right was the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) HQ.
@ExploreTheWeekendUK
@ExploreTheWeekendUK 19 дней назад
If only we'd known about the escalator!!! Oh well! We knew the tide was huge, but 16m underneath the ferry's really puts it into perspective, given how 'shallow' the beach looks to the naked eye. Thanks for the info!

Hi, it’s pronounced Castle Cornet as in an ice cream cornet. And St Peter Port not St Peter’s Port. No worries.

Aurigny it means Alderney in Guernsey patois they were short of aircraft so chartered one or two. They also fly to LGW London City Bristol Southampton Exeter London Stansted Manchester and Liverpool amongst others

Did some of this today. Got lost as I said. You don't show the start of the walk from the Aero Car Park.
@ExploreTheWeekendUK
@ExploreTheWeekendUK 26 дней назад
We had so much footage from the walk that lots needed to be trimmed out, and the short walk from the car park to the main road didn't make the cut. The map (in description) isn't the greatest but does provide a useful visual reference for the route.

Not Airport trail signs. Not very clear in places. Also overgrown vegetation needs cutting back.

It was quite leafy when we went earlier in the year, so can imagine it being overgrown in the summer. Not sure how much of the trail is actively managed!

the War Tunnels "Hohlgangsanlage 8" is one of many German tunnel systems that was built/being built for ammunition storage by the Germans on the island. after D-DAY it was turned into an underground hospital, as the German hospital was above ground located near Springfield football pitch in town. after D-DAY the Germans was not getting any food supplies from France, so they had to forage for food, fish, collect sea food like limpets, winkles etc to survive. this led to the Germans being ordered to do 4hr shifts and to save their energy. this is why most of the dummy's are lay in bed, to portray how it would have been. if you are impressed with Damien's bunker museum, you should see what he keeps at his farm house. he has enough items to fill the bunker 3 times over. he also owns a Stoewer Kfz 1, which is a radio car that was stationed on the Island and is 4 wheel drive. but the best thing about it is that the back wheels can steer like the front. meaning it can do a U-turn in the middle of a street if needed.

Wow, thanks for the insight!! And what an awesome collection he has, sounds like he needs to add another bunker to his collection to help display it all!!

of course me, being a dumb Yank, hadn't heard of Sark. 🙂no cars. how do the islanders get their supplies? from the ferry, obviously, but once the ferry drops them off, how do they get to the shops, homes, etc? hang on, that was a tractor that I just saw! and later on, a truck! so, no cars but yes to tractors and at least one truck?. ok, well, that probably answers my question about delivery of supplies! 🙂 talk about action filming on the bike! that one man invasion attempt was probably the most excitement the local bobby had in years!
@ExploreTheWeekendUK
@ExploreTheWeekendUK Месяц назад
Ah eagle eyes!! It looks like Sark has quite a few different ferries throughout the day bringing passengers/supplies etc, and most islanders had some sort of tractor or truck with which to get around. The lack of any tourist vehicles makes the island such a peaceful and pleasant place to be! We've just updated the description with a link to a bit more history about the prison/the one man invasion, explaining it much better than we can! On some websites, the chap even tried again the following year?! Determined!

The only motorised vehicles on Sark are the tractors, E-Bikes and Mobility scooters, no trucks.

Best explore of Sark I've seen, very enjoyable thank you. They need to service their hire bikes better though for sure lol.

Thanks for the kind words! With the bikes getting so much use it's not surprising that they've all go their little issues, but A to B cover this off with an island wide breakdown service included in the hire price. Not sure about the other rental shops, but A to B certainly get the thumbs up from us!

joining you from the U.S. I like that you actually either speak or post wording on the screen to explain what is going on. most touring videos are just people walking and saying nothing, and I'm left wondering "what is that" or "what's going on here". I have subscribed to your channel as well!
