Amazing that Gary and to think you cooked that in the wood looks better than i can get from my local chip shop. Another amazing video. All the best to you both mate
Cheers Andy appreciate that buddy, they were amazing and better than we have had from a chippie. I was well pleased with how they turned out cheers again mate appreciate that 👍 👍👍
Sizzle, sizzle. Looked the bomb that, Garry. I think it was Claire’s fire that made it even better 😁👍🏼 The bramble brandy looked best. I’ll have to make some next year. Cheers to you two 🥂
Cheers Tim, they were amazing buzzing at how well they turned out. Claire's fire detail made a huge difference. 100% easier for me, the Bramble brandy is lovely mate if you like rum, it's even better. Thanks for watching buddy appreciate that 👍
@@360OutdoorAdventures I like both rum and brandy so I’ll have to do both now. I usual make Sloe Gin but we haven’t had the crop down here where I usually pick from. Made me laugh that you both had thick heads in the morning. Great stuff 😁👍🏼
@ChrisPaul1892 cheers buddy appreciate that, they were amazing. I was really pleased at how they turned out. Especially cooked on a campfire, thanks again mate have a great weekend 👍
Top notch scran there Garry looked unreal. Great video as always. Good to see you two having a laugh and enjoying the time outdoors. Clare saying cheers when you passed her the cup was funny. Keep up the good work
Cheers cuz appreciate that buddy the food was incredible pleased at how it turned out. We did have a right laugh and that bit was so funny. It was a great camp we enjoyed this one thanks for watching buddy appreciate it 👍
Well what can I say mate them fish and chips looked amazing think al be taking some pointers away from you. Good to see you and Claire having a great time always a good watch mate
Cheers buddy I appreciate that, you are a really good cook yourself. I'm always hungry after seeing your meals. Yeah we do have a laugh I'm lucky Claire enjoys the camping too. Mind she hates the treck in but we have a laugh. Thanks again for watching buddy
Superb there Garry - always good to see you both having such a great time. And this time trying some new grub. Well, hey, more than grub - cuisine I reckon. It turned out well along with the brandy. Yeah, gotta watch that - it kind of does away with a good rest in the woods. Lovely though old mate. Good going. Mark
Thanks, Mark, thanks for watching buddy. My days the food was incredible, I was so pleased at how it turned out.my best campfire creation yet. The brandy seemed a good idea but turned out not to be so. Your right you don't feel rested after drinking. Thank you once again buddy appreciate it 🙏
Thanks Lee, I appreciate that buddy, Claire loves a night in the hammock. From her snoring she sleeped well 🤣🤣😂😂That one is her own, I bought it for her around 7 years ago as a gift for valentines. 👍👍
I agree. I don't like peas (except when in mixed veggies), and mushy peas look like something that wouldn't be good dinner conversation. I was in Scotland in the middle of September, and went to Anstruthers. It's supposed to be the best fish & chips in the world, but I'm not convinced.
Thanks Lezley appreciate that. The fish and chips were amazing I must admit I do like mushy peas, out a tin ain't the best but I still enjoyed them 😀😀😀👍👍
Great camp and great food over fire looked delicious il have to start using my dutch oven more can make some great food in them think I'm gonna try pigeon stew in mine next time great vid
Thanks for watching buddy appreciate that. The food was amazing so pleased they turned out so well, I must admit Claire tending the fire was a big help. Yeah the Dutch oven is a great bit of kit, I'll be home more at the weekend from the end of the month. We should get out and cook a bit of scran.
You would get a faster boil with smaller sized twigs/kindling- a jet of flames will rise out of the top very quickly with air hole facing into wind. I notice you nearly burnt your fingers- I reckon you just needed to get to know how to use it better. Just my opinion. Best wishes.
Hi there thanks for watching and leaving feedback it's much appreciated. Yeah it just shows how one moment of now paying attention can lead to accidents. Thankfully I corrected myself and placed the kettle down correctly. I tried everything you mentioned on previous times using the kettle, getting a boil wasn't the main issue really. The main problem I had was when it came to cooking, it just was so difficult to get a good clean burn. I was getting a flame one side of the burner, the side of the hole. Adding the extra hole has definitely helped resolve that issue. Thanks for watching and leaving feedback it's always appreciated havean awesome weekend 👍
Hi buddy thanks for watching. Sure thing I'll try and add so photos here, if that doesn't work I'm camping at our spot Saturday so I'll show it on the video. We are lucky to have that spot it's a great place to chill. Looks like I'll have to video it 👍👍👍
Watching this gave me an idea for my Kelly Kettle- I think I'll make those extra holes. Then I'll make a circular shaped metal wind screen that fits snugly around the inside of the burn chamber. I'll then cut holes in the same position into the wind screen. I will leave one or two tabs sticking outwards so I can rotate the screen while it's running to regulate how much air and how big the holes are. Adjustable from 4 thin slits to wide open holes! Thanks for the original idea!
Thanks for watching and leaving feedback it's much appreciated. Although that's something I wouldn't completely rule out I think if I take precautions it would eliminate and chances of accidental fires being started. 1) I wouldn't use the Kelly Kettle or any other twig stove in prolonged dry weather. 2) Being mindful of what twigs I'm burning, any pine especially Larch produce lots of sparks. So I would avoid those. Also clearing the ground or even placing a solid base where I plan to use the Kelly Kettle would help keeping things safe. As for sparks coming from the top of the kettle, with only burning twigs any sparks would have cooled before they land. Thanks for raising a valid point, but I think if I followed these steps things should stay safe.
@@360OutdoorAdventures Sorry mate, blunt remark of mine. I'm from Holland and gotta burn fast and get the heaven out of there (bicycle) in one of our scarce "forrests". Highly illegal to burn even one pinecone. Therefor my 'three pinecones' idle comment. 😁
Thanks for watching i appreciate that. I think it's something Kelly Kettle have added to the Kettle now. I do believe they can be bought as a alternative now. 👍👍
Happy to help 👍👍 preppersshop.co.uk/kelly-kettle-base-camp-and-scout-whistle-and-stopper-23984-p.asp?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3vO3BhCqARIsAEWblcBboWmGh5A1MO4gn1JrQ7OTEh9OOZyHIbedPd8AphwHA7Lq_XGmKSUaAh16EALw_wcB
@brianreay4104 Thanks for watching Brian appreciate that buddy 👍. They were still around in the 80s, I loved them and still do. They are amazing one of the only things I enjoy ketchup with. I think up here in the Northeast we have some great old school food. Thanks once again 👍👍👍
@danieljones2183 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍👍 I think it will be ok if the wind becomes an issue I think a camping stove windbreak would help. I have a few similar hobo stoves the Firebox stove in particular and I've had no issues. Fingers crossed this works out similar.
First thing, my dog would try to steal a stick sticking out of the fire base. Here in Australia, I have the smaller Trekker model with two small holes in the fire base. I have followed the makers instruction of turning holes into the breeze to improve burning. The Trekker suffered a bit when cooking with the 2-piece grill due to the fire base size. The Hobo stove accessory has fixed that problem. A brilliant bit of kit. Thank you for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching I appreciate that, the trekker looks a great bit of kit. I do like my scout even more so after my mod. I'm so pleased Bramble doesn't grab sticks from the stove😂😂 it doesn't bear thinking about 😂😂😂. I tried turning my stove to the wind but it still didn't burn great. Hence the mod, it works for me👍👍👍 thanks again atvb, Garry
Good mod mate 👍 Obviously its going to burn fuel quicker, seen a few negative comments. But in fairness its going to burn hotter so can imagine its will be more efficient and save time 👌 nice 1, subbed
Awesome buddy thanks for watching, leaving a comment and the sub, it's much appreciated. The mod definitely worked out better in my opinion, much cleaner and will be perfect when cooking. Twigs are generally plentiful so that's not a concern. If the wind is up a bit ill just us a camp stove folding windbreak. Yeah lol there has been a few negative comments but that's fine, I'm happy with the mod and it's more suited for my needs. I suppose if Kelly kettle say turn the hole to the wind, then some take that as gospel and don't like different. I like to go against the grain at times. 😂😂😂. Thanks again for watching and the sub. Atvb, Garry
Interesting video mate, I've got the trekker version of the kelly kettle , definitely going to give it another go soon , glad you're pleased with the modification, atb 👍
Hi, Gaz, I hope your keeping well buddy. Yeah I think the mod worked well, definitely a better burn on this occasion. The Scout is a great bit of kit, the trekked looks awesome too. Ideal for carrying over distance. Thanks for watching buddy appreciate that 👍
Not bad makes it more ballanced i guess. I modified the kettles chimney a little, stop getting covered in smoke and holds on to exhaust heat a bit longer.. basically a tin can over the stack with slot in one side, so you can direct it away from you, so you dont get covered in smoke, wofks quite well. I have the kelly scout too, i use spirit burner to, that work well also, take a bit longer but works fine, trangia type.
Hi, there thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, it's much appreciated. Yeah my mod worked out well, I'm happy with it. I thought it burned much better. I like the sound of your modification i bet not having the smoke is a bonus. The Scout is a fantastic bit of kit so versatile. Thank you once again atvb, Garry
sorry while adding more ventilation will make it burn faster the size of your wood is all wrong, you have so much wood left after the boil you could cook a meal too, its meant for small twigs and minimal burn to boil water.
Hi there, thanks for watching and leaving a comment it's much appreciated. I completely understand what you are saying and agree. Great point regarding the wood I used and having wood left over, enough to cook on. Normally that's what I would be doing, probably cooking lunch. My main reason for the mod was for exactly that. The previous time I used it the material I had at hand was slightly damp. I had no breeze making for a difficult burn. On this occasion I used the same twigs I gathered the previous week and again no breeze and the stove burned brilliantly. I got a boil in no time at all and I'd I wanted to cook, I could have done so without working the stove. If I find the wind to be an issue I can carry one of those folding camping stove windbreaks to control things better. I hope this helps explain my method in my madness and thank you once again you raised a valid point 👍👍
It seemed to burn better this time, than the previous week. I understand smaller twigs are supposed to be used, I thought I would try and make it more specific to my needs. More so as a hobo stove rather than just using the kettle. I know on the video I only boiled water, but it was just to test how the mod performs. My first impression is I'm happy with it, it done what I hoped. Thanks for taking your time to leave a comment it's much appreciated 👍
I’d like to see a controlled experiment test video of an unmodified base vs the modified, with boil times and smoke comparison video clips. I’m curious if the extra holes help or hurt performance in the wind and cold.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. That's a great idea, I would like to see that also. I'll see what I can do, I've a friend with the same stove. So should be able to arrange something. I must admit it got a better burn this time than the previous one, if the wind is an issue I can always carry one of those stove windbreaks. Or if it turns out the mod was a bad decision I could just buy a new base. Thanks again it's much appreciated 👍
Cheers Ben appreciate that mate 👍 I think it worked out better. It definitely burned better on this occasion than the last. It's a great bit of kit I do enjoy using it, thanks again buddy.
The spam fritters were amazing buddy, I must admit I am a massive fan of them. I know what you mean it is a messy job, I'm pleased it's not just me lol. Thanks for watching buddy appreciate that 👍
It will also now need a lot more fuel as it has the extra air. I like the Kelly as it only uses a very small amount of twigs to boil the water and when using the hobo stove top, you can to an extent regulate the heat by turning the hole into the wind or away from it But I guess that where you are, wood wont be a problem and I guess it will also make it lighter 🙂
Hi Lee, thanks for watching and commenting buddy I appreciate that. I found it to burn better on this occasion than in the previous video. In my last video, I had to work the stove, it seemed to burn at the hole but struggle at the opposite side. Yeah, it could burn faster now, but for me that will be better for cooking, plus I could always carry a windbreak to control that better. Also as you mentioned I shouldn't have a shortage of wood thanks again buddy appreciate it 👍
Hi,new subscriber here, I recently got rid of my kelly kettle and upgraded it to a petromax fire kettle 1 . 5 Litre .. It already has the extra hole . The build quality is much better and the butterfly handle is a real game changer , much more stable and safer . Great videos .
@davidjacobs828 Thank you for subscribing and welcome to the channel, it's much appreciated. That sounds a great bit of kit, I'll have to check that out. Petromax, has become really popular and their kit does look high quality. Thanks again for joining us and thanks for the heads up on other kit 👍👍
Great idea love the kelley kettle but if the wing dies down and not enough air flow it dose struggle to burn I've had it with mine il have to cut some more holes in mine thank u for the tip Great vid
Cheers Shaun thanks for watching buddy, yeah I know what you mean. Last week was a bit of a struggle getting a good burn. So I thought why not give this ago. If you do it yourself I'm sure you will be impressed by the difference. It just makes it more awesome than it already is.
@360OutdoorAdventures yeh I've noticed if u put thick twigs or wood in it struggle to burn sometimes goes out normally use thin wood with that mod it should burn a bit thicker sticks
