It's around 12 miles to from Rio Vista to Birds Landing, where there is a maybe working vending machine. I like stopping for a cold drink but this area is really remote for the Bay Area. It turns out that they're actually starting California Forever on the other side of Highway 12, so I'm going to make a video over there this Spring.

God, watching this makes me so jealous. I would love to be able to commute and travel by bike and train safely. If we had similar infrastructure in the US, I could replace about 80% of my car travel with cycling and public transit.

Thanks for watching! It's about 3 miles or 15 minutes to get from Newhall to Clayton's BD trails. The roads are safe if you stay off Clayton Road. I hope to do more trails as they dry out, but if it's not to hot out!

Glad you made it (alive)! Some of the most unpleasant-looking cycling infrastructure I've seen. McDonnell (sic?) Road very scary, high speed, loud, dangerous industrial entrances, intersections, narrow shoulders, poor or non-existent .way-finding. My favorite moment was the narrow passage next to a barb-wire topped fence, encountering some kind of electrical box in the middle of the ^#@$**^ bike path. You deserve a medal.
@BikingWithDavid
@BikingWithDavid 7 месяцев назад
LOL thanks. Maybe I deserve a Darwin Award. And this is where the Bay Trail leads to! The next bike path on this part of the peninsula is way past Skyline. I thought about crossing over to the opposite side (away from the Uber waiting area) but I saw that the heavy traffic to the lot was slowing them down so just went around them. I am always trying to play it safe, I would have taken the sidewalk if it had one. And why no sidewalk?

Hey man, just a tip for future videos, maybe you can mute the camera audio and just play music. I dont know too many people who want to listen to a half hour of wind wooshing noises LOL. Epidemic sound and artlist are two good royalty free sites!
@BikingWithDavid
@BikingWithDavid Год назад
Thanks for taking to time to watch and comment. I guess the wind is especially annoying in this one. I was a big fan of road videos, so when I started posting videos, I was hoping to use some of my own considerable collection of music as background. However, I saw how many takedowns (many illegitimate) road videos were getting, and when I made my own road video and got a takedown (but it's still up), I gave up on that idea. I listened to some of the free sites suggested that the road guys use and while it's OK as background music it is too disappointing to use for me as a music fan. Some viewers expressed appreciation for the ambient sounds, so I'm trying to stay as natural as possible to allow the viewer to place themselves on the ride. I'm thinking of getting a mike with a wind screen, so I hope that will provide the relaxing, immersive experience that I am aiming for.

@BikingWithDavid
@BikingWithDavid Год назад
Thank you! I am enjoying your videos as well, I was surprised by the excellent, ubiquitous infrastructure in Paris while I was there though I didn't get to ride. Sonoma County is famous for its beautiful countryside, even for California. I enjoyed the ride on this trail, despite the noise. The Creek trail in part 4 is more isolated. However, I also realized that this cycle track is useful as an alternative to driving for those who can't or don't want to drive the highway. A bigger problem is safety on some of the road crossings as some have died trying to get across. My series is now moving in to Spring, and the birds are more active. However, it's also getting warmer, so I hope the clanking of my bottle later on isn't too bothersome.

Nice ride & clip. Thanks for making this! Honestly can't tell on my big screen if 60 FPS was even noticeable. What's problematic is the time of day placing the sun just so as to bleed light into your cam. Lots of haze & lense flare riding & shooting into the sun like that. Easily avoided next time. Also, having watched hundreds of riding clips, music and time lapse to speed the viewing experience through mundane or featureless trail segments helps improve the pace. Hope this helps. You said let you know, so I'm just trying to be constructive as your work shows much promise.
@BikingWithDavid
@BikingWithDavid 2 года назад
Thanks for your attention, I appreciate any constructive feedback. I agree about the sun and lens flares, I knew and did all I could to keep it out of frame (maybe pointing too low). A hazard of riding in Winter. They should get better as we go into Spring. The next one is northbound so it isn't affected as much, but it's later and the shadows are getting longer. I thought about adding music (I have a ton of great mp3s) but don't like the hassle of how YT handles copyright. I left the original sound because it has nice ASMR properties, and people can turn on whatever music they want if they bother. I enjoy the energy of road videos (such my Lakeville one) but these are meant to be either relaxing or for exercise. Although I do have to edit the occasional obscenity. I've been doing more 60 fps but honestly I think it just makes it look weird, 30 seems more relaxing and realistic. These were my early videos and I think I'm learning more about shooting and editing video as I go.
