Thank you for posting this. I was there, at about 17 years old, with my first girlfriend from high school. I only have a few photos of that experience. What I wouldn't give to be back there again. I wouldn't go on to waste so much of my life if I could go back to 1986 with the experience and knowledge I have now. On the other hand, I'm still wasting a lot of my time. Hmmm.
cool things could done before they completed trashed the economy, and our minds and souls along with it I am sooo, sooooo, SOOOOO jealous of anyone who got to experience this. And how the fuck could they afford to construct and deconstruct a literal gondola and a monorail for this? Like what???
I worked Expo 86 and would finish a shift on one side and then get on a trolly and go to work a shift somewhere else on the other side of the park😄. The best were the evening shifts because we got to hear all the live bands at the outdoor theatre and we had sweatshirts that listed all the bands that played there. Yeah all horrible things come to an end, it was just a job but interesting 😁
I remember walking through Canada place at 12 years old and being amazed at everything. I remember getting Covid vaccinated in that same space 35 years later and being amazed at how fucking weird life is.
Vancouver still had freaks then. I went to Expo '86. One day to see everything. I spent the whole summer at Expo '67, in Montréal and didn't see everything.
Miss seeing Tony Parsons on the news. Closing down anything dental related is a huge tragedy. With few of us having as little access to dental anyways because of the high costs.
This disaster was the beginning of the end for Vancouver. After this, organized crime and the provincial government went on a spree with billions of dollars of building scams. The leaky condos were just a taste. Vancouver now is a complete piece of shit and virtually unlivable unless you were partaking of the scams such as Terra Nova in richmond and all of the Rennie criminality. So sad this gorgeous area was ruined for the generations to come.
Back just before the Leaseholds became some of the most expensive in N. America. REmember Minoya?? A really cheap nutritious Japanese style lunch to go, and you're gone.
When I was 14 years old in Vancouver!!! Downtown in gas town district it was completely safe to wander around for kids. That was in the mid 1970’s. Now with league drugs it’s a hellacious place
I had a great run living in Vancouver from '94 to '21. Enjoyed it immensely and I wish that city only the best. Nowadays I'm happily back home in Halifax.
I was at the site watching when it came down. Seems a lifetime ago now. Lived on Pendrell Mews and we walked up on a Sunday morning to join the thousands of spectators there to witness it. I don’t think it would be such a big deal today
