There is a group of them flying around where I live, in England. I can hear their sounds right now. I have looked this video up to show it to my daughter.
Thank you for this - it is the first time I’ve ever seen birds do this having witnessed it this year above our house. I couldn’t work out if they were playing, fighting or mating!

Here in Vienna, the Swift season appears to begin on a later cycle and end early, and in fact, I take the view that they are beginning "preparations" to leave my area of Vienna as of this weekend just gone. But they'll be gone for sure in early August. Cheers!
Hi again John, I was nearly in an emotional "crisis" the other day when I flew in upon your upload on Common Swifts. (Cap-in-hand here) Actually, then as a result of this emotional burden about the birds, I wrote a poem. "Tumble Swiftly" and screen-shot your video to capture the truth of the poem. Nice one John, you're a star. I hope that your summer ends well. I was delighted to be in the position to go down south-west there a while and feast my eyes on these feathered friends again. Their flight-way must be somewhat delayed from there or different population groups. Also, Housemartins where, in fact, more in evidence than Swifts, yet both birds were still in flight weeks after the Swifts leave and had left Vienna. Cheers!
Just before dusk, they come out and feed here. It is very entertaining. Their maneuvers are incredible but if there is a wind, they look more clumsy trying to fly into it.
Thank for posting this, we live near a church and as soon as the sun sets bats begin to congregate in the skies around us. All of a sudden two years ago bat like birds began to show up during the day exhibiting similar behaviour to the bats gathering before going to feed and there has been some debate between neighbours as to what they were. So thank you for clearing that one up !

I adore swifts - every year by the end of April I look to the sky calling them back in my mind - happy to see the first "point men" (maybe on their way to Denmark)
Oh these fellas will always visit my town during the early summer until autumn.. Screaming and flying in big flocks just like this. I actually spotted the vanguard to these birds last week. Really happy to see them again, they are beautiful, they eat those damn insects
Ben Dover One year I was lucky to see the very first arrive to Holstebro in may. Within the next hour or so the whole flock had arrived. I now live in the other end of town where there are no swifts.
