There was a story from Vietnam I heard where two radio operators were pinned down with just M1911 pistols so with nothing to effectively do they used a pea sized ball of C4 and burned it to make instant coffee. The squad machineguner noticed and yelled at them briefly before joining them while letting the assistant gunner continue on the M60.
Perhaps to a westerner, but any Slavic men where mandatory drafting is still going on, those who served in the army know that it was so boring that we were literaly living for these kind of situations, so we can have some laugh any punishment after it (night watch, cleaning, kitchen assistant, heavy labor etc) was worth it just to feel normal for a moment! :)
