I had a 1999 white sport I drove for 6 years, and I miss it. An alternator and a speed sensor were the biggest expenses I had besides regular maintenance.
Should add the caveat that the $1879 introductory price was in 1970, and was for the TWO-SEAT Gremlin with no opening back window, a rubber floor mat, no radio, no power steering, no power brakes, a 199 cubic-inch engine and a 3-speed column-shift transmission. The four-place Gremlin in 1970 (and a ½) started about $1949, came with a back seat and an opening back window. A radio set you back $110. Power Steering was $45. Automatic transmission was $205. The bigger 232 engine was another $65 bucks. Carpet, Bucket seats, the parcel shelf below the dash all added to the bottom line. Still, a reasonably-equipped Gremlin cost about $2250 bucks. But more than that; you got a LOT more for your money when compared to a Pinto, a Cricket, a Vega or even a Maverick. The Beetle, which was a few dollars less, was a joke of an automobile when compared to a Gremlin. Also keep in mind, the Gremlin caught GM & Ford with their pants down! The Gremlin came on the market a full 6-months before Pinto or Vega did for the 1971 model year! In Gremlins' defence, the gearbox with synchro on low was optional in 1970-1971 becoming standard in 1972. Top speed was generally advertised as 95 mph which is more than anybody could ever want in an economy car. Pinto, Vega, Beetle, Cricket..... couldn't touch it.
I got the base model off a bartender for about $1k, literally did nothing but 1 oil change in SIX TOTAL YEARS, car ran like an absolute champ. Zero issues, didn't even need a wiper blade. What finally killed it was the rusty gas tank seam started to leak after a steep driveway. So rusted of a car you could reach through the outside of the door into the window motor area, giant hole. Still ran like a champ.
We used to have one. It was a 1970 and my Dad bought it brand new. It was red. Had a straight 6 engine and it was an automatic. Never thought it was ugly but it definitely had a look of its own. Same thing with the AMC Pacer.
There’s an aspirated version of that engine in the Brazilian Toyota fj40 that sold from 94 to 01, it was called 14B and it’s a 3.7 4cyl, same valve cover shape. Even working on farms for over 20 years, you still see them around lol
Please get a tape measure and actually measure things. So much easier than some inaccurate estimation using your height. If you making all the effort to make a video, just measure it.
I saw a hotted up version of the 1967 model 1600 GT fitted with two massive Webers by Pat Crea Motors in Melbourne. I myself bought a new 1967 standard sedan fitted with a heater by the showroom. Belletts were probably the best cars to hot up as at the top speed of 91 mph they ran as smooth as oil and the 5000 rpm could be raised to 5500 for short periods. I fitted 165 Bridgestone radials which made a huge difference, reversed the rear spring which was easy to do and ran the car with negative camber to increase its cornering ability. I changed the rear muffler to a racing sausage type muffler which had a more high pitched exhaust than yours and also much louder as you could heat it accelerating 2 km away. Finally I had the mechanical fuel pump changed to an electric one as they tended to leak petrol after 2 years. The icing on the cake was fitting extractors which made the top speed higher at 105 mph. Oh and I fitted two large Hella fog lights for my trips to go skiing.

reminds me of my car, I bought it just like this from a girl in Tennessee same color, looks exactly like this but Manuel for $3,000. had about 80,000 miles on it back in 2008. I still have it parked in the garage. But built.
Chevy Caprice wagons will always be remembered by me in my childhood days of the late 80s/early 90s as the king of school transportation, literally. From 1988 to roughly 1991 or so I would go to and from LCDC in Boston, MA in 1987-90 Caprice Classic wagons like this one, courtesy of Accept Transportation, before they switched to Dodge Caravans, and they of course featured the gentle 1980s GM chime that was also used on some mid 80s Pontiacs.
A revived Mega Cruiser should serve as a successor to both the Sequoia and Land Cruiser 300 either near the end of this decade or the beginning of the next.
