I'm Bill a treatment-free beekeeper in WNY. We have hard, long, winters here and I've been working to build the hardiest bee stock I can. I enjoy building bee equipment and sharing them with others in the community as well as trying new things with honey and in the bee yard. The videos on this channel are 100% about beekeeping and its various disciplines.
This channel is still evolving to find a good mix of education and entertainment. Let me know if you find a video that really appeals to you and why.
This is cool. I have a table saw, but I would like to build this because I work in my covered no walls carport. I hate dragging everything out to work. Plus, you did a lot of work making these videos. You deserve the support.
You are a ton safer than my husband! Maybe that’s why I didn’t think anything about the way you did things😂. Great videos. No nonsense. I really appreciate that!! Thanks so much.
I am also a big fan of Thomas Seeley. I cannot remember him ever mentioning to hang a swarm trap level. I realize that when we move our bees into their permanent home that we do tilt our boxes forward a bit to let water run out. I will leave my level in my toolbox 😉I LOVE your shim block!! Def using that idea. Thanks for the informative well shot, good audio RU-vid videos. Now I will go and check some of your other videos 🐝🌻
You probably already know this, but for those who do not. The Bill was signed into Law by the Governor on 26 June 2021. It was enacted into Law 18 months from that date, so around December 26ish 2022
I used your instructions and built 9 of these catchers and installed them in different places. So far caught 3 swarms. 33% success rate is great, I think. I guess it depends on the place. One spot was a cherry tree next to a creek. I think the bees couldn't resist. Thanks Bill.
GOD GAVE US A STRONG EVER EVOLVING IMMUNE SYSTEM TO FIGHT OFF INFECTIONS. THE MORE ANTIBIOTICS AND JABS PEOPLE RUN DOWN TO GET BEFORE HAVING ANY SYMPTOMS WILL WEAKEN THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEM OVER TIME. WE THE PATRIOTS HAVE TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK. PEACE...
THICKER WALLED HIVE ALSO KEEP THE HIVE COOLER IN THE HOT SOUTHERN SUMMERS AND HOLDS IN THE HEAT BETTER DURING COLD WINTERS. THICKER IS BETTER ALL AROUND. PEACE...
so youre not a bee man eh.... its bee boy.... that scans.... also what about comb in a bucket.. i got a 5 gallon with all my comb chunks in it and it crystalized
Some people use swarm Commander some people use a frame full of old brood comb. Some people like to spray lemongrass essential oil on the entrance and a little inside not too much.
I have been saying these things for decades. Been kicked out of many bee clubs. No treatments or feeds of any kind. The only problems bees really have are bee keepers. ;)
Hi Bee Boy Bill! Question - what are the dimensions of your little box? And how much would you increase it in-size if you were going to put a 10 frame medium box up?
Good job keeping your mind right. Sometimes I have trouble loosing my place! I sure was glad to see a different shirt, it takes me two or three times as long on my projects. I thought you were going to get er done all in one day. Blue insulation for spacer was great...... And that break the Bomb!
I believe that with cold winters and hot summers, it might be a good idea to create a permanent layer of insulation around the outside of the standard Layen's hive between one-inch framing boards where you add the insulation made of the wool from local sheep farmers. Then have a second layer of siding outside of the entire insulation layer, similar to how we build house walls for humans, but not as thick. I think that one full inch of insulation all around the outside walls is plenty. The key issue is fixing the areas where the bee holes are and any ventilation holes with another layer of the boards and the exact thickness of the space with the hole drilled into those. This way the entire outside of the box is more like the thickness of natural trees, where even in the worst of the cold winters and the worst of the hot summers the bees would not have any problems with the heat or cold. The insulation layer would need to be fully enclosed, glued, etc. so that there is never a problem with infestation..
Joel Salatin describes animal husbandry similarly. They stopped vaccinating and initially lost some animals. But now they have animal genetics that are strong and don't need vaccines to thrive.
Did you throw in the towel bro? I really wanted to see how and if these inspections were working or making it worse, and if the inspections can evolve through keepers educating them.
Really nice video. I built my warming cabinet as a chest to hold honey buckets and not individual jars but seeing your video I'm going to turn mine on its end and steal some of your design ideas. I put casters on mine so that it was easy to move and I used flush hinges for the lid(door). Slightly more expensive but far easier to fit. I also mounted the temperature controller on the outside so that if the incandescent bulb fails I can tell due to the drop in temperature.
