In 1998, songwriting & production duo Emily Haines & Jimmy Shaw formed Metric & left Toronto for NYC in search of like-minded artists. In '01/'02, they were joined by drummer Joules Scott Key & bassist Joshua Winstead, & found themselves at the center of the city’s burgeoning alt-rock scene alongside bands like LCD Soundsystem, The Strokes, TV On the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol & more. Metric’s relentless pursuit of timeless songwriting & fiercely independent ethos have cemented their place as one of the most essential & ahead-of-the-curve bands of the last two decades; the trailblazing Toronto outfit is proof that you can amass an untouchable catalog without signing to a major label or changing your lineup. Their latest LP, Formentera II, out now via their label MMI & Thirty Tigers, is a testament to their singular purpose. It stands among their best and most genre-defying work & closes the 18-song cycle started by 2022’s critically acclaimed Formentera.
I get it finally. This song was about overcoming everything she went through and coming out on top and being happy about it. There is nothing wrong about achieving your goals when all you've ever had was doubt or being scrutinized for who you were , in the past, future, that you became what you were meant to be. And this song shows it!
“I CHANGED BY STAYING THE SAME! “Forever and Ever…” ❤ One of the best lyrics ever! …bc time passes, our environment and circle of ppl change, we age and grow mentally and spiritually… Our true inner-self is always there, and the same…your essence, when you feel free to be you, shines. The self-talk in our heads are brain created thoughts and negative for so many ppl… It is not you. YOU ARE PURE ENERGY…YOU ARE THE ONE LISTENING to the self-talk, and you are the one observing your life in form/body. Pure energy doesn’t die, but all form does. Our bodies do, but not our inner being. Pure energy cannot be measured and isn’t dependent on our brain or our hearts/breath. 😅❤❤❤❤
