I’m glad to say my camera is working great! But when it was time to apply the firmware upgrade through Canon Connect, I couldn’t click the OK option on the touchscreen, and I was really confused. It turns out I had to use the menu wheel and press the SET button instead. It felt a bit odd to me, but since this is my first Canon camera, I’m not sure if that’s how it usually works.
The firmware updated from my phone but when it was time to apply the upgrade, I couldn’t click the OK option on the touchscreen of my camera, and I was really confused. It turns out I had to use the menu wheel and press the SET button instead to get the OK option. It felt a bit odd to me, but since this is my first Canon camera, I’m not sure if that’s how it usually works.
I am still waiting on the update that removed the record limit on the R5, when are we going to get that promised update. I don't need new updates, just the ones Canon promised.
Why would you trust anything that only comes from India. These are the same people that call you endlessly and introduce themselves as Michael or Sara from some generic company name or the IRS. There is no way I would upload anything to any electronic device that comes from India. How gullible do you have to be do something stupid like that?
Been using firmware 1.0.1 since I got my R5m2 back from CPS after a major lens mount and bent main frame repair with no issues! Shot a major golf event for Getty Images on Sunday the 22nd and the camera performed flawlessly!
Simon, stop recommending to not update if you do not have something solid about these updates. I made the update on R5 and R5II and all fine. The update for R5 was on Canon US website, but not on the head of displayed list. I made a screen capture and helped people to find the update on forums and social media.
Time for Canon to now do a few more obvious usability updates for the R5. Example is to provide a digital shutter sound in electronic shutter mode like the R7 has so that the user knows for sure that the shutter is being triggered. Another is pre capture mode.
Good video, I have been a Sony camera owner since they bought Konica Minolta and any service I ever had was always good and am on my fourth camera , currently the A74 and it has been fantastic, one of the commenters said something really pertinent, the ability to fall back to a previous firmware if the update is bad and this is a problem with all the big companies,Sony's gotta come good on this for everybody that has this camera with this problem, that means everyone and reimburse those that paid to get it repaired out of pocket sony is the largest camera company globally right now, they need to fix like Toyota had to come good on the engine problem with the Tundra, and this should be the same for Sony to all the FX-3 owners, i did a firmware update to version 3.0 on my A74 and haven't used it yet i will find out this weekend, maybe i own a brick now to 👍
Thanks for the video. the other day while in the menu the LED screen died. Restarted and took out battery etc. Called Canon and was told to reset camera. After that it worked again. Glad to know it's been fixed.
Ok Simon, I was about to ask for instructions how to use the elusive LP-E6P on the likes of the R10, R50 & R100 .. but after some minutes you revealed they're on the same level as the R3 ;-)
Just last week Sony pulled their updates for the A7R5 and fx cameras due to some serious problems…. I’ve learnt not to update immediately until it’s safe to do so….
I don’t know what the deal is with Canon USA. The firmware updates are still not live on their site or Canon Canada. Checked both Canon UK and Australia and both of them had the updates.
The R7 also got a 1.5 update earlier, and incredibly it made my sigma 150-600 ef lens to stop hunting focus. Which made my recent purchase of 200-800 almost unnecessary because the main reason I upgraded was the focus hunting issue. Luckily I gifted the sigma to my brother so it's fine. He also needed a lens to use with me when I'm birding. But regardless, the update made a massive improvement on the R7.
So there's a major update rollout for; R5ii, R5, R6ii, R6, R8, R10, R50, and R100. Me with my R7: ...what am I to you Canon, a $2 hooker 😂?!?! Yes, I know we got an update a few months ago, but I think that was just to add support for a lens. *update* never mind, its there.
Yeah, I wondered about that... 1.5.0 is the latest. It likely will come, but sometimes Canon delays some updates. Saw this with the R5 / R6 a few times.
According to canon germany the updates for R7 as well in example the r6 II too are out since 20th of september ;-) I think canon rumors either hates R7 or got an incomplete list of updates and doesn't check back ^^
You're not the first to say that. Makes you wonder how many resources they spend developing and testing the firmware updates. Lumix start it all. Each firmware updated made the camera more usable. Canon started doing it with the R5. But if companies are going to get on the bandwagon, they need to put in the right amount of time and not just a list of features for the marketing folks.
As a videographer, I of course love waveform monitors. BUT, when it comes to waveform monitors, audio meters, or whatever other instrument, I NEED to see the measurements! All too often, modern cameras will throw in these things at a basic level with a few lines and call it a day. I need to see either IRE units, percentages, or dB to know what I'm dealing with!
Got you there. While I can see the lines foe the IRE level, the waveform is small enough that it makes it difficult to read. Being able to resize, change opacity and change placement would be a big help.
Fuji destroyed the eye AF on their top of the line cameras with firmware this past year and they won't acknowledge it. Lots of Fuji people are jumping ship. With that said, I've always been an early adopter of firmware for my computers and cameras (always Canon) and I've never had a a single issue. The nice thing too is that Canon will generally fix the issue quite quickly as mentioned in this video.
Oh, no, the old batteries will work fine. But if you're buying new batteries, might as well get the LP-E6P as they cost the same and will work on newer cameras without issue.
Did I miss it? The first bug noticed by many users was with setting changes not holding. I can't say I experienced this issue but was concerned with the finding. Was this fixed? Was this determined not to be an issue?
My r5mkii frozed on timelapse (in 10th minute and could not be turned off, had to take put battery and I had no file) and same day it overheated same, on 10min 4k 25p, i could not believe its happening. And meanwhile I see that senzor IS could not be used with other than Canon lenses and I have no option to turn it on of off. Weird and monopolistic move from Canon.
