Jacob Post was born on January 11, 1826, in Harderwijk, Gelderland, Netherlands. He married Lubbertje (libby) Gerritje Meeboer on April 5, 1854. Garrett, Libby and their children, Jane and Mary came to the United States from Holland. They crossed in a sailboat, the voyage taking six weeks. Their sufferings from sea sickness and the lack of provisions on the boat were intense. The boat sank during a storm and they lost their belongings including their family Bible. They were thankful that their lives were spared. They settled in Fond-du-Luc, Wisconsin. They had twins Priscilla and George. In May 1875, they migrated to Kansas. They settled in Logan. They took a homestead west of the town in Section 32. They came in a covered wagon bringing along their horses and cows. The family camped near the Larrick's dugout while locating their claim and building a one room log house. All members of the family worked hard. They broke out the prairie to plant crops. Mrs Post churned butter which they took to Kirwin to exchange for produce. If there was mail for Logan, They brought it back on the return trip. Large bands of Indians pass through on the way west, frightening the women and children. The herds of Buffalo often tramped the corn patch. Jacob died at the age of 57. He died in Logan, Phillips, Kansas. 4:00
