Are you interested in returning to the OLD PATHS the Bible speaks of in Jeremiah 6:16?

The term "Old Paths" refers to God's time-tested, reliable ways, in contrast to the world's ways. As we (Christian women) try to live out the Bible's teachings in the 21st Century, what kind of values should we be upholding? The Gospel of Jesus Christ must ALWAYS come first! And together with that must come PRACTICAL APPLICATION in our personal walk. In my OWN life, God has addressed issues like:

*BIBLICAL ROLES
*HEADCOVERING
*A SURRENDERED WOMB
*KEEPING MY HOME
*HOMESCHOOLING
*MODESTY . . .

Join me as I explore those topics, and more!

I also blog at The Heavenly Hearth:
theheavenlyhearth.com

My previous blog, truthathome.wordpress.com still continues to be a helpful resource with many great articles on my most-loved topics.

I generally organize my closet by color and type together. For example, shirts by color and formality level, then skirts in the same manner, and dresses in the same manner. I keep over clothes - extra layer items in sections like this, too, off to the side. I use the year round method, but sweaters are folded separately in order to keep their shape.

I usually organise my skirts by length and my tops by sleeve length. But my wardrobe is basic, everything is plain coloured and stretchy material. I don't buy dresses unless It's for a formal occasion.

I watch the length of my shirts sleeves 3/4 sleeves work good for me, but alot of times people will give you clothes that do not fit into my wardrobe due to sleeves or shortness ect. I pair so many a week together pull from those for a week when washed i can pair up a different shirt with same skirt. on the left is pairs on the right is colors togther. Also i do not head cover here is the reason I have for not, if you read a little futher down KJV it states your hair is your glory and is a covering for you. Let me know your thoughts.

I have several wrap skirts which are multicolored, so I keep organise my closet in rainbow order. That way I can better match my outfits. I have a question: do you have a tip for keeping your skirts from clinging to your leggings? It seems that during the winter when the air is much drier my skirts twist around me when I wear the extra layer (especially when I do a fast walk for exercise).

In planning and organizing my wardrobe, color is most important to me. I think in terms of "likeability" I look better in cool hues that enhance my cool coloring. I have 2 basic skirt patterns and a basic blouse pattern which I have made up in different colors, with variations, plus a certain number of "store-bought" tops. One of these days (after I finish my phonics program & get it uploaded to my website) I plan to do a video on my channel about my wardrobe. My basic colors are navy, gray, blue, and purple; most of my 6 skirts can be worn with multiple blouses. I like solid colors, since it is easier to coordinate my printed head scarves with solids --- but mixing prints can look really nice, too --- it's just more challenging. I use my scarves mainly to cover my head during worship at church, but since I also cover during individual prayer and personal Bible study as well I need to have a scarf handy at all times. I accomplish this by wearing my scarf looped thru my belt in warm weather and tied around my neck in colder weather. I love scarves! I think they are so feminine and pretty, and I think they really add a lot of extra style to an outfit. Like you I have my entire wardrobe out at all times; that makes more sense to me, since when the seasons change the weather seems to always "swither" back and forth for quite awhile. Most of my clothes, like yours, can be worn in any season simply by adjusting my accessories. I have half a regular-size closet for my clothes, not because I share it with my husband, but because I keep a lot of art supplies and etcetera stuff in there too :) I keep skirts together and my blouses & tops together in my closet. My sweaters have a drawer in my dresser, and my coat and jackets and shoes go in the downstairs coat closet. My scarves have a dresser drawer too, but my belts hang in my closet. I have only one purse, a backpack style in gray. Since everything pretty much coordinates with a number of other things, I don't feel limited, and not having too many clothes and having only clothes that I feel good in makes my life much easier and simpler.

The Joyful Eye, thank you for your thorough comment on the topic of organizing our closets! I really found your ideas intriguing and helpful. It's so neat to hear that you make your own clothes! Where do you get your patterns from, and which patterns do you use? ~Jessica

@@TRUTHATHOME My basic blouse pattern is New Look 6483; I ordered it recently from Amazon. I use view A, the one with the sleeves, as I do not like sleeveless blouses. I have made it in white with grosgrain ribbon stripes down the front, and in blue with a ruffle on the front. I am currently working on a purple one and plan to put butterfly appliques on it. That's what is fun about a simple basic pattern: you can do different things with it. I did make a few adjustments: I lowered the neckline about an inch (I like a high neck but don't like to feel "choked"), took about an inch off the end of the shoulder, lowered the dart about an inch, and added more width to the sleeve. Also I used the size 16 pattern although I take a 12 or 14 in store-bought. I have found it's better to go by the actual measurements rather than a size number, as different companies' sizes seem to differ. My favorite basic skirt pattern is Simplicity 7655, which I got years ago at a JoAnn's Fabric store. I make it a bit narrower as I don't like quite so much flare at the bottom. Also I omit the slit in the front. You can look at pattern catalogs online if you don't live near a fabric store (I used to, but now that we have moved to the north Georgia mountains I don't anymore).

@@TRUTHATHOME Thanks so much, Jessica! I am tickled to death that you read my HeadCoveringWoman website! I have asked so many of my Christian sisters to read it, but so far, if they have they haven't told me. For some reason which I have yet to figure out, the church of Christ treats this passage differently from the rest of the scripture --- it is completely ignored and avoided and no one will talk about it.
@TRUTHATHOME
@TRUTHATHOME 3 года назад
The Joyful Eye, You're welcome! Here's my take on why some Christian women don't want to talk about this passage (there are several possibilites): 1) It makes them uncomfortable. They don't want to even consider doing something so "weird." They may associate head covering with "works salvation" and cults. 2) They trust the teachers who speak against headcovering. Either that, or they've never heard any teachers mention it, and they think, "Well, if they haven't talked about it, and they don't require it at the churches they pastor, then it must not be that important. It must not be for today. 3) They're just not interested in studying it. They have "more important" things that need their attention more urgently. Maybe one day (they say to themselves) they'll get to it. 4) They are interested in studying it, but their husband is against headcovering. 5) It convicts them of having an unsubmitted attitude, and they are unwilling to confront the rebellion in their hearts. 6) They worry that if they engage in a conversation about headcovering with someone who covers, they will get more than they bargained for in the form of a person who will perhaps try and convince them they need to headcover, too. They don't want to feel they've been put on the spot. 7) They believe that they have studied the passage well enough, but their interpretation differs from ours. Those are the possibilities I've come up with as I've thought over this. I've asked the same question you have, and I've felt frustrated many times. But, I always remind myself that the best thing I can do is pray. This is God's church, and He will deal with its members as we pray for each other. I think God has used head covering in my life to teach me many things, among them a greater level of patience with others. I just keep praying and trusting in the Big Thing God is doing right now that I don't have eyes to see yet. I believe that God is using, and will use, your efforts to clarify the headcovering passage for good in other women's lives. :) Thanks for your lovely responses to my questions! I really appreciate the time you've taken! ~Jessica

Currently I have shirts hanging and skirts, leggings, etc. folded on a shelf. We’re moving in a few weeks so I’m not sure what it will be like in the new house. I currently share a standard double door closet with my husband and 1 year old and my other two children share a single door closet. In the new house there is only a closet in the master bedroom which happens to be right next to the laundry room. Rather than buy wardrobes, I’d love to limit everyone’s clothes to fit in the one large closet. I know this won’t be a long term solution as we add more children, but I’d be helpful until the children were older and helping with chores more. 😊

Great informative video! I use the year round method too. Where would I find shirts to go underneath to make a cap sleeve blouse more modest? I have some summer blouses that I’d love to keep if it’s possible. Thank you
@TRUTHATHOME
@TRUTHATHOME 3 года назад
Hi, Justine! Glad you enjoyed the video! I have a few cap sleeve blouses. Here is the modesty test I use for that type of shirt: If I lift my arms up and the sleeves are tight enough so that I can't see any undergarments, then I feel like it's not too bad. Depending on the shirt, I may also wear a tank top underneath. I have sometimes cut the sleeves off a T-shirt and used it like a tank top. Another thing I do is buy long underwear shirts (these usually give a lot of coverage, and come in a variety of fabrics), then cut the sleeves to the length I want (elbow length, for example), and hem them. I wear one of these underneath the shirt with the sleeves that are too short. I find that blouses with cap sleeves go well with shrugs or sweaters. Lastly, another option is to try Kosher Casual's "shell top" with 3/4 length sleeves: www.koshercasual.com/Cropped-34-Sleeve-Shell-Top-for-Women-_1622_p.html Hope that helps! ~Jessica
