Oh my gosh, how could I have been so wrong! I thought people watched videos to learn, not to criticize the color of my gloves. Now I realize that all video lessons should be shot in black and white and to the sound of a metronome. Sorry for the inconvenience.I wonder if you've ever tried making video lessons yourself? Probably, you have everything perfect: clear static shots, no unnecessary details and, of course, complete absence of emotions. I just wanted to share my experience and maybe help someone. The Orvis knot is a type of fly fishing knot used to attach the fly to the line. It is a barrel-shaped knot that forms a secure connection between the fly and the line, ensuring a smooth cast and preventing the fly from detaching during fishing. The Orvis knot is considered one of the most secure and easy to tie knots in fly fishing, making it a favorite among many anglers. It is also known for its strong and secure connection, allowing for accurate casts and effective fishing.

@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 28 дней назад
Well, let's just say that if the Bowlin is a classic suit, this knot is its fashionable interpretation. Not only is it as reliable as the Bowlin, but it adds a twist to your nautical adventures. Plus, it can be a great conversation starter at a sailor party.
@PasiSavolainen
@PasiSavolainen 25 дней назад
Trying this a bit on a thick line: it's a bit easier to adjust the loop size before the knot is tightened. On the other hand the knot is harder to quickly tighten (this is old-ish and not very soft line), it kept slipping/noosing. Also un-intuitively it's adjacent 'lines' that tighten it and not those across the knot. I was also able to open it by just pulling repeatedly on the line, the knot was somewhat well pulled beforehand. The loop has direct advantage on the bitter end. This doesn't happen with *loose* bowline on same line.
@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 25 дней назад
It sounds like you're working with a challenging line, especially if it's older and stiffer. The difficulty in tightening and the slipping could be due to the line's age and texture. Adjusting the loop size before tightening is a smart approach. It's also interesting that you noticed how the adjacent lines affect the knot's stability rather than those across it. Your observation about the loop's advantage on the bitter end is insightful, and comparing it to how a loose bowline behaves on the same line gives a clear understanding of the differences. It might be worth experimenting with a different knot or a softer line to see if that improves the knot's performance.

What is this knot used for?
@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots Месяц назад
It's a kind of bowline knot. The bowline is an ancient and simple knot used to form a fixed loop at the end of a rope. It has the virtues of being both easy to tie and untie; most notably, it is easy to untie after being subjected to a load. The bowline is sometimes referred to as king of the knots because of its importance. Along with the sheet bend and the clove hitch, the bowline is often considered one of the most essential knots.

i always thought it was a fishing knot,for tieing a loop for terminal tackle unto a fixed line.
@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 2 месяца назад
It's understandable to think of it as a fishing knot, as many knots have multiple uses. Indeed, tying a loop for terminal tackle onto a fixed line is a common application in fishing. However, this knot can also be used in various other contexts like climbing, sailing, and camping, where a secure, non-slipping loop is needed. Each application takes advantage of the knot's unique characteristics.

What’s the application of the knot?Why would you use it? Does it replace the Alpine butterfly?
@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 2 месяца назад
The knot serves a specific purpose in situations where a secure loop is needed, such as in climbing, sailing, or camping. It's often used when you need a loop that won't slip or tighten under load. While it has similarities to the Alpine butterfly knot, each knot has its own advantages and applications depending on the context and specific requirements of the task at hand.

@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 2 месяца назад

I have as of yet to see a tutorial; Where they tell you a variety of examples in which why you would want such a bowline type of knot and the applications in which it could be used for -specifying examples of each
@Oleg_Volsky_knots
@Oleg_Volsky_knots 3 месяца назад
A bowline knot is a versatile and secure knot that is commonly used in a variety of situations. Here are some examples of when you might want to use a bowline knot and the applications in which it could be used: 1. Sailing: A bowline knot is commonly used in sailing to secure a rope to a sail or rigging. It is a strong and reliable knot that will not slip or come undone, making it ideal for securing important lines on a boat. 2. Camping: A bowline knot is also useful for camping and outdoor activities. It can be used to secure a tarp or tent, create a makeshift clothesline, or hang food out of reach of animals. 3. Rescue operations: Bowline knots are often used in rescue operations, such as mountain climbing or water rescues. They can be used to secure a rope to a person or object, allowing for safe and controlled movement in dangerous situations. 4. Construction: Bowline knots are commonly used in construction for securing ropes and cables. They are strong and secure, making them ideal for lifting heavy objects or securing scaffolding. 5. Fishing: Bowline knots are also useful for fishing, as they can be used to secure a hook or lure to a fishing line. They are strong and reliable, ensuring that your gear stays secure while reeling in a big catch. Overall, the bowline knot is a versatile and reliable knot that can be used in a wide range of applications. Learning how to tie a bowline knot and understanding when and where to use it can be a valuable skill in many different situations.
