The In the Money Media Network, founded by Jonathon Kinchen and Peter Thomas Fornatale, is a collection of podcasts and other content about horse racing and gambling.
The network itself is an outgrowth of the In the Money Players’ Podcast (originally the DRF Players’ Podcast), the longest continuously running horse racing podcast. It has charted in ITunes and received the ABR Fans Choice Award for Best Radio Show / Podcast in 2020. Importantly, it has brought together a diverse community of horseplayers from all walks of life, and counts amongst its fans some of the biggest names in the racing industry.
Other shows on the network include The Matt Bernier Show, Redboard Rewind with Spencer Luginbuhl, Talk Racing to Me with Naomi Tukker, Nick Luck’s Daily Podcast, and various podcast partnerships with other entities including RacingPicks, Lone Star Park, and The Brentwood hotel in Saratoga - those shows all live under the In the Money Players’ Podcast banner.
It never will fully come back because of technology and added betting options on other sports. But if people love an experience they will go to live events. Local NFL games are free on tv but the games still sell out because of the experience. So while racing is not and never will be as popular again, it is possible with the right consistent experience it can at least draw better.
Need more big money owners to run big stables and grow competition between those stables. Need more good horses so getting some more big money breeders would also help. Alternatively the owners could go to Europe and buy some horses with stamina influence as there are still many of those types available. In a dream world a couple of US breeders would buy a stamina influence stallion or two and perhaps a few long winded mares. This all hinges on money and so this new activity would ideally attract new money people to help get the ball rolling to improve the American breed and produce more horses who can run distances and stay sound longer. Ideally that would also bring some of the crowds back to the racetracks.
@@goodflop255 I don't think that would specifically increase attendance. I think many things like horses racing longer vs quickly going to breeding, lower takeout, larger field size... all would help increase handle but not necessarily on track attendance. On track attendance is going to more specifically be tied to the fan experience, events on track and rewards/how players are treated on track. I never understand why players are not treated better at the track. You can be the lowest level player at a casino and they bring you free drinks and give you reward points/free rooms, but at a track the player is all but ignored. Higher level players should have free passes and a designated room with some comped food and drinks and hospitality any day they want to come. Players are treated so poorly and feel ignored when you compare it to a casino.
@@mkt1847 What you say is true for sure and would help. My thoughts were to improve the level of racing and develop rivalries like in the old days. With better horses being bred hopefully more stars would emerge and get the races back into the newspaper. It might be a fools errand but at least if the breed was improved the racing would be better. Bigger fields would also help.
@@goodflop255 I agree but even if that happens inevitably they still wont race long as all the money is in breeding. Just when you get some horses that the public gets behind and is excited about that are covered by the media, they are retired and into breeding. See: American Pharoah, Justify, Authentic, Flight Line, etc. More local level stars like the Chosen Vron would help but even great local horses like this still fly under the radar and don't seem to do much for actual on track attendance.
TA should romp in the Cotillion, even if she bounces slightly. She doesn't need her Travers effort 2 win here. Don't b surprised if STG & The Coach go gate-2-wire in the Penn Derby. He's fresh & will b sent early. Unmatched Wisdom is gr8 value & likely 2 bounce back also.
I like betting against horses that run HUGE at 1 1/4 then run 1 mile or 1 mile 1/16. M/L 4/5 😱🤯1/5 at best. My Late Pick 4- 1 with 1,3,5,8 with 8,10,11 with 3,5,6,10 If it loses you'll get my $5 Santa Anita Late DD Opening Day ABSOLUTLY FREE!🤕🤓🥸
Just a question p.t.f. love yr shows. But do we have 2 wait another month n change 2 find out j.k. is going to pick fierceness. He went off him and jinxed sierra leon now jumping back on fierceness..maybe s.l got a chance now .mind u he s doing all this without a racing form 4 that day. Oh brother.
Sorry Matt, I followed your advice twice this week on two different longshots and they never even got into the money. You're a great guy but I can't trust my money to your advice.
It's Naval Power's race 2 lose. Appleby clearly felt no need 2 try 4 back 2 back WB Mile wins w/ Master of the Seas so let's see who can run underneath 👀
Difference is, 3 of Woodbine's Grade 1 races are a "Win and you're in" for the Breeder's Cup. Best racing day of the year (as far as I am concerned) - other than the Breeder's Cup days (of course).
@@marklewen9384 Last time I checked, the winner of the Woodbine Mile (2023 - Master of the Seas) WON the Breeder's Cup Turf Mile and you can go further back than that if you want to. Go watch Kentucky Downs, I will be at Woodbine on Saturday making serious money. Cheers!
J.k picked fierceness in k.d. wrong. Picked a loser in the preekness. Wrong. Went with young up n comer in belmont. Wrong. Drives around in golf cart with the trainer of fierceness but does not pick in travers. Now so far away frm b.c.classis already without reading form fierceness will win. What a great handicaper 4 the people.
Enjoyed this show, liked the 4 questions segment. Great answer Billy to hottest girl question, # 1 Wife and # 2 Michelle Yu, covering all your bases. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you both for excellent DMR Shows.
Having spent last weekend at KD, all I can say is good luck. Little of what was shown on PP's was helpful in handicapping those races. The one thing I observed was that prior experience (especially wins) did seem to matter. And which 'Lane' the horses are running in will be important. Last Saturday they ran in Lane 3 (rail dogs out really wide) and the rail was dead (which the good jockeys spotted quickly). On Sunday, they took down the outer-most dogs, so the horses were running in Lane 2. A completely different course that day, with no apparent rail bias at all. I assume they will maintain Lane 2 today, but no idea about Saturday and Sunday.
What if the two best 3 year olds turn out to be by Good Magic? If Muth wins the Breeder’s Cup Classic and Dornoch finishes 2nd or vice versa, they would be the two best three year olds this year. Speed does well at Del Mar and both horses have shown speed and stamina. 1) Dornoch 2) Muth 3) Fierceness 4) Sierra Leone 5) Thorpedo Anna
Was super excited to have a fantastic chat with Michelle during Belmont weekend. Got to reminisce about the famous "In the gutter outside the Tin & Lint race call on HHH" and what a brilliant piece of ITM history that was! 😅 Also, maybe the name for a program "Yu talkin' to me?". Being an Italian guy that makes the most sense to me.
You can both list your ticket at the Bottom for everyone to see your picks. It is good forlate comers to see your final picks. Hope you can incorporate this int your podcast. Thank you!
