The Cumming Nuthouse Wildlife Facility rehabilitates orphaned and injured squirrels, but also handles chipmunks, roof rats, deer mice, opossums, and other small mammals. This is a non-profit facility licensed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, mostly funded from my own pocket. I handle more than 1000 animals per year. I have created videos for reuniting orphan squirrels with their mother (1 hour of squirrel cries) and also how to make a neonatal incubator for around $60. Donations to support the facility may be made via paypal to the account alan@alan.org.
Wow I was so worried watching this. Poor baby was in distress. Mama is amazing the way she chopped down the branches. Pretty incredible you captured on camera. Thank you for sharing
Squirrels are totally badass!! They are such independent operators. Imagine jumping 60 feet up in the air, from one skinny wind blown branch onto another skinny windblown branch, with 99.99 percent success rate. Or running full speed down a tree trunk, face down. Or cracking open a hazelnut in two seconds flat. Or surviving a winter night at -20 degrees up in a nest of sticks, then getting up first thing in the morning running around on the snow. They are magicians.
I'm so happy that Nugget is doing well, and such a good surrogate Mom. Thanks again for taking her in when there wasn't much hope for her and giving her a good life.
I have a question-I had a squirrel come to my balcony every day all year and I haven’t seen her in 4 days. What could’ve happened? She ate very well here too!
Yes. Noelle had a seizure on 11/26/23 and passed away on 11/28/23 after eight seasons of fostering over 1000 babies. Nancy, Nugget, and Faith will be moving to full time fostering.
