Into The Necrosphere is a weekly metal podcast hosted by Jackie Smit. Tune in every Tuesday for uncensored, long-form conversations with the finest free thinkers in the scene, reviews, news etc.
Cheers for having me on sir - always a pleasure. The interview section was great too. Fun bit of trivia for people playing at home, 1349 was the first international band Graveir played with.
Hello Jackie! It's funny notice that Ravn isn't a Hard/Heavy fan - I'm totally with him about Kiss - never were my vibe, but WASP is pretty good though! There's a lot of extreme Metal musicians who like bands such as Mottley Crue and that's OK I guess - personaly I see Mick Mars as a great guitarist actually; aside from that Ravn is a talented musician also - and a quite creative dude as well. I'm start to think that growing in farms is like a Norwegian tradition - like "if you weren't born among woods and cattle, then something is wrong with you!" Oh, and I totally understand the aging thing - the older we get, less action we want in our lives. About the Ep. content: 1) Irönwitch! Never heard before and thought fucking cool! Old school Black/Thrash Metal quite frantic and desperate! Nice rough material in the way I like! 100% approved! 2) well dude, I'm completely suspect to say anything bad about Butcher - I like their sound a lot! OK, I totally understand the vocal thing but I see that as a part of their style; nothing wrong about it imo; 3) Both Garrier/Suspended aren't in my book - their sound just didn't ckicked on me; 4) Spiritbox is anotar band which I not get into; too smooth for what I think about Metal - maybe the problem is exactly that; 5) Ah, now I understand how a band can sound a mess to the ears when the vocals doesn't hit; Souls to Fear fits perfectly in that description! Sound is cool but vocals are lame; 6) Merciless is decent IMO; outdated? For sure - but the old school shouldn't be about about that in it's majority? I suppose it is; 7) Arkona is pretty solid! Intense and full of a peculiar malignance - it's bombastic but quite simple to get into though; definitely a plus! 8) Image of the Infinite Sun... I just pass; Another week has been passed... Thank you so much for the quality entertainment - wondering what you'll bring to us next! And yeah, I checked out that Deathless Void Last week - liked pretty much what I heard! Nice pick! Until next time!
Hey brother! Thanks as always for the feedback. Got a lot of exciting things in the pipeline for the rest of the year, so keep watching this space. Also however, let me ask you as someone who has followed the podcast for a long time: who would YOU like to see.me bring on next?
@@IntoTheNecrosphere well I'm very satisfied with your schedule every week - gonna confess that David Vincent and most recently King Fowley were both great guests - two historical figures in Metal who I admire the carreers! It would be great if you could bring on Blackie Lawless someday - I'm sure he's in your "almost impossible to count in" list but who knows? If not, maybe some legendary Death Metal names such as Ross Dolan (Immolation) or Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse/Hate Eternal) would be beyond awesome! Oh, and there is also some big names on Thrash like Chuck Billy or Gary Holt - some old school fellas which I really respect and would love to see in the podcast; wow, better I stop here before it get too megalomaniac... Anyways, I'm glad with the stuff you're promoting in your show! Thanks again!
Interesting saying he wants too redo beyond the apocalypse i thought that was there second best sounding album after hellfire..but liberation is the best..only two more days too the new one im kinda really only into half of what ive heard so far the singles
I was quite surprised by that too. To me that record still sounds fantastic, but he clearly has a vision for what it could sound like. As far as the new album is concerned, I love it. I think you will too!
@@IntoTheNecrosphere can't wait too hear it also if 1349 where too redo anything a new version of liberation with the same everything except less fuzzy guitars would be a amazing listen ..won't happen of corse
We are Malevolent creatures made by a Malevolent creator, it stands to reason we are gonna make Malevolent art. It's about how far you are willing to understand it and be a useful tool to make actual art, or are you just selfish and afraid and become nothing but fuel for the fires. Dark emotions need an outlet, imagine if Kyle didn't find music. Maybe one person would have gotten all that anger. Now we all get to feel it !! Good choice Kyle, 🤘
Not sure why Jackie has to go out of his way to say he "despises" Ihsahn's solo work or "hates" Akercocke's Renaissance in Extremis. Come on man, you can respect art from fantastic artists, even if you don't like it!
@@IntoTheNecrosphere say what you want buddy. I'm merely expressing my own opinion on how it sounds to me, a viewer. Particularly when you say in this episode that a lot of the people from bands you've listened to for years have now become good friends. Up to you if you want to take that information and feedback constructively or not 👍🏼
Mate, I appreciate you taking the time to give me that feedback. But I don't think that hating "Renaissance In Extremis", as an example, lessens my respect for Akercocke. In fact, my reaction to that record stems from how much I love every other album they've done. I'd wager that I probably ramble on about how much I love Akercocke on at least 70% of my episodes. Same goes for Ihsahn. Emperor is one of the greatest bands ever. I find his solo material almost entirely unlistenable. That doesn't mean I'm disrespecting him as an artist.
@@IntoTheNecrosphere fair enough man if that's how you view it. My reaction to it probably stemmed from a bit of disbelief as someone who enjoys all material from both artists, so I was probably a bit too on the nose. Anyways just wanted to be constructive, keep up the good work.
Hello Jackie! Dude, Chris is such a workaholic! The guy lives for his work - and it's impressive how he could migrate from a pilot carreer to a photohrapher! His history is quite interesting and motivational - I teally appreciated his honesty about his work and the art behind it! Loved the interview! Oh, and Darvaza sounds pretty cool btw! About the Ep. content: 1) Conspiracy X is solid! Perhaps I grew too tired from that Death Metal formula though, but I definitely saw potential in their content; 2) Loved the sick chords/distortion in Cosmic Putrefaction! Can't wait for the full-length! 3) Everybody liked that Black Curse album - and I'm not an exception! Intense, violent & pretty destructive - I enjoy some crude savagery in music; 4) I'm pretty sure at thr end of this year just a handful of releases will really be gravitating around our heads - the whole rest just pass in a blink; to this year I gonna be even more criterious: only 12 records to my AOTY list! Tough choice buy that's it - sorry for the majority which won't stand a chance; 5) Hmmm... It seems Mother of Graves is quite straighter in this new single; not that close from Doom side while 100% into OSDM/melodic vibes; I liked it - tbh I follow the guitarist on Twitter and he seems a nice guy. I won't complain; 6) Mörk Gryning is decent; good drum work and solid riffs - way old school! Not that original though but still pretty enjoyable. A correct material IMO; 7) ...Whitechapel, huh? Well produced, cool atmosphere... But I've said it once: Deathcore? I'm out; 8) I love Molder! Quite simple, old school Death Metal which I cannot live without anymore! I know, it's stupid, but there's nothing in this world that makes me hate this shit! 9) Never heard about that Fórn before; it's quite immersive - gonna confess that I was hoping for something more dramatic but this track is almost ritualistic; interesting. 10) It seems that is not just Jane who is addicted in something... Anyway, f*ck them; Thank you once again for the nice episode and for finishing it withTriptykon! Until next week, bro!🤘🏾👊🏾🔥
Awesome interview! You need to get more people from the scene who aren't musicians, it's great to get to know a different perspective on it! As for your 2024 contenders' list, you might wanna reserve an additional spot as Panzerfaust have just announced the release date for Suns IV. :D Also, looking forward to your reaction to the single off of the upcoming album on the News Rant. And say what you want about Kanonenfieber, but respect to them for taking Panzerfaust out on the road this fall for a European tour. There is even a UK date on 26.11 in London, just in case you've missed the announcement.
I will agree with Svartalv when he's talking about the fact that people at metal concerts are better behaved. This I have noticed because I work at festivals around Euope every year; some pure metal and others, rock/metal. There has even been very mixed festivals (no names mentioned..) and the amount of shitheads at these type festivals is astounding!
I think it's partly because it's such a novelty to many people who attend those types of shows, so they act up because "well, that's what you do at a *gig*". The majority of attendees at metal shows are probably in three figure territory in terms of the number of bands they've been to see live.
This auto played after a joe rogan podcast.....this is horrible. Sorry. My ears are bleeding. How the heck do people listen to this obnoxious noise. Good luck 👍
Welll if Storm Shadows missels attacks russian military targets in russia territory that is a directly attack of Nato and GB against russia. Ukraine military needs nato satellites to use them, they can not do it alone.
Mmm... Besides Akercocke, there was Code, Mithras, Meads of Asphodel. Napalm Death released a couple of absolute belters in the early 2000's. Nothing quite on a par with nowadays, but not entirely devoid of quality either.
The best black metal band from The uk period. and the only band to speak up and tell it how it is. Irrespective of the far right label being thrown around. Speaking the truth now is far right. Cheers Jackie for this wonderful interview mate 🤘🏻don’t believe the whore lame stream media ever!!
@@IntoTheNecrosphere good nice to see you engage in a conversation so many people are afraid to even approach in some of the stuff you discussed mate 😉
The only band I'd disagree with Chris on of that era which he didn't mention was the meads of asphodel doing the satanic meets historical black metal mixed with the obvious influence of sigh (I know they get referred to as "the British sigh a lot) and a lot of gnarly venom/warfare/amebix/crust punk influence.
You finally got my favourite band on, great music plus I like to wind Simon up about rugby I am a bath supporter(who are having a great season) and Simon was a Worcester warriors fan who aren't having a season due to being relegated and bankruptcy.
Great interview! Winterfylleth is a band I’ve been sleeping on, but holy shit, “To The Edge Of Tyranny” is great! And speaking of Chris Adler, it saddens me to hear the crap he is putting out lately. He used to be one of my favorite drummers, but the more I hear and read about him, the less I give a shit about what he does.
@@IntoTheNecrosphere lol do you really have to play Firstborne again? I can't even express how utterly shite it is, but the news section is hilarious and great, as always though!
@@IntoTheNecrosphere I think he was talking in the context of winterfylleth considering his other band is nine covens who are very satanic/nihilistic ONA/UK occult themed black metal band.
I'm 28. Anytime I listen to "First Spell" the moment "Unearthly Loose Palace" floats through the speakers, I'm traveling back in time to my early high school days, first love and the early stages of my depression 😂 Extremely nostalgic record, the groundbreaking classic of atmospheric black metal subgenre. I really love the way synths are incorporated into the compositions. They don't overpower the experience, yet they're an integral part of the structure, shaping its unique sound. Atmospheric black metal comes from merging together seemingly conflicting ideas into one whole piece - melody, harshness, vulnerability, uncompromising sound and softness. It's a difficult equation. More often than not, something is off and you cringe *(a hyperlink to Wikipedia article about symphonic black metal)* but every now and then from the clash a harmonious masterpiece emerges. From the very first day, there's been this ever present discussion within black metal circles, about the genre's root(s) versus innovation: what it actually is and what's tacky, cheap, gimmicky or kitschy. I believe that First Spell is a great example of honoring the core formula whilst keeping it original and adding something unique. You never question where on the music map the record belongs but it's unmistakable theirs. From the first bar you hear, you know it's Gehenna but you also intuitively understand what they are referring to. It's not just a thoughtless replication of an established canon like some products from the black metal factory. The aesthetic is there but it's used as vessel to express their take on beauty and art. I could talk for hours about this masterpiece. I'm not a black metal purist as I always welcome subversion and experiments but I also appreciate the classic sound. Gehenna's work sounds like a very personal love letter to the kind of art they understand and somehow personify. Thanks for the interview. It was a treat. Obligatory disclaimer: I'm not a native speaker, don't spit on me. Actually, maybe don't spit on anyone at all.
