Putting a call out for youtube content contributors to post C.A.S.T. scenario setups. There's not a lot of practical tutorials out there. I've had my N22/N22H, N8 and Cranborne 500R USB chassis for some time now and am just figuring out a few handy ways to use these devices in ways not explained by anyone else I can find out there, including the Cranborne site. I figured out one application in particular that I am very pleased about for which I haven't seen any tutorial guides anywhere, which is to utilize the 500R8 chassis C.A.S.T. Link to send all 8 channels of analog audio from the chassis (which appears to sum all 8 channels to two) via shielded cat cable to the input of an N22H to be sent to headphone distribution. I don't think there would be any detriment to the either the chassis or the N22H doing this, but do let me know if someone knows why I shouldn't be doing this if it would be causing any harm to any part of the system. The only tutorials I am finding online are showing to connect to the individual set of slots (A-D) which would then only utilizes the audio at those slot pairs. Hoping to get some feedback as to whether 500R chassis and C.A.S.T. system users might find this information useful. Cheers!
Hey Billy! It operates as a stand alone piece of hardware, HE2 Control just allows you to control it digitally along with other features such as recalling settings!
@@cranborneaudio YEAH I watched the video on it and that was great to know. A lot of Mic preamps had the software only and is a pain to map things correctly with gear.
Yeah, things like opto sync and dual mono control keeps the gear adaptable. When companies come out with stereo only items (dynamics) it makes the device seem limited and less of an investment
any shot you'll add the digital recallable to the carnaby 500? maybe using the same way that wes audio does so it could work in their racks or a usb cable?
Highly frustrating placing an order for one of these, patiently waiting for months, and then suddenly seeing the same unit with a different color face place start shipping for 45% more while the rest of us still wait. I canceled my order and went in another direction. Ho hum.
Hey thanks for this video. I got a R8 a few months ago, used it for tracking and Im over the moon about the quality of the material I got. Now I am using it for processing signal from my daw to the R8 and back and I don't see to be able to get a stereo signal back, it's always a mono somehow. For example I am using a SPL BIG and what I get back is a mono signal. Any advice?
Hi, I take one of this unit, I hope that it could help me to reach the target of a very low noise level while i’m recording. I would like to test it also with the insert in input of Behringer UV1 to add it to a channel strip in case of live setup withoutuse a fethead or cloudlifter that could introduce more noise. 🤞
Wish you would have made your own A-D converter to match the quality of your specs because it sounds like we have to plug this into an interface and rely on the limits of that DAC.
Their 500 series ADAT unit might be a good indicator of their conversion quality. I’d love try one to see how those hold up against the Universal Audio X series converters.
It would be great to have digital recall in the 500 series, and the Craboure rack with digital recall, similar to the WesAudio Titan. Great job! I saw this at NAMM and can't wait to have one in my studio.
I use the Cranborne workflow and I love it. Itwould be great, if you guys could make a stripped down version of 500 ADAT for guys who use 500R8 as primary audio interface, stripping down a few overlapping features.
I have a question im relatively new to outboard gear and own a RME babyface pro fs and im out of I/Os and planned on getting like the behringer 800 series.. but im not a big fan of behringer and their business practices.. i own a moog matriarch and plan on buying more synths .. would i be able to connect the synths and guitar pedals to this unit without having any 500 series gear?
This is an awesome demo! Ordered Camden after watching it! Can I ask, how did you connect the synth? Just can’t get into. It’s probably with a stereo jack, ok. But did you go into Direct Box first, then to Camden? Or did you connect the synth right to the preamp using Line setting? But probably this synth is -10db of max level. Or maybe you just digitised the synth output first, then from audio interface run the signal into the Camden? So, can you please clarify?
Ok Team Cranborne ... I have succumb to this beautifully crafted gear. My main saxophone cried for one of these to live on the chain! Placed it on order today, so I'm waiting for her like a late date!!
Can I use the inserts to send smth out only (without returning a signal)? Would the input of the 500 unit still arrive at the output or would this interrupt the slot chain? And can I send something onto the insert return that’s not coming from that insert send (ie from an external unit)? In other words: is that insert slot in series or in parallel? Many thanks for clarification
Their great customer support wrote me: “inserts are wired in series” so it will indeed interrupt the chain. Got them in a patchbay half-normalled so enables me to split the output and send smth directly to the out.
I preordered HE2 for use in Oslo Mastering. Can't wait. But with yours filiosofy, clean, musical, I really want you to make a least 4 band Mastering eq.
I saw this masterpiece at The NAMM Show and you better believe I’m getting one for sure. I heard the 500 series version and have been a fan ever since. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Let’s Go‼️ Beautiful piece of Kit.
They answered another comment saying impedance would not be an issue except for some rare instances (like vintage fuzz). As far as balanced/unbalanced, the insert send and return are unbalanced and so are guitar pedals. The TRS cable serves as the unbalanced return and send for each insert.
@cranborneaudio ya' know... I may just have to sit down and reflect upon the logistical details regarding the holding location of my $17 dollars. I appreciate you guys inspiring such a thought provoking argument. LOL
