The architecture is interesting. Among the uninspiring modern stuff there's the occasional glimpse of something that reminds you that this city was once somewhere rather special.
Derby is a unique city. It was given city status in the late 70s. What makes it different is that in reality it's secretly a town that definitely doesn't have the culture or capital to sustain itself as a city. So a short train ride to Sheffield or Nottingham makes you feel like you've arrived in San Franisco. On the upside, if you have developmental special needs or want to smoke black mamba, it is actually briliant and has a lot to offer.
I was born in Derby eighty seven years ago. Although I recognized St Peter's Street and East Street, they looked a little strange without cars on the roadway. I left to join up in 1953 and have only visited on occasion since. I was very unhappy when the council in the fifties decided to " modernize" by destroying what was the "west end." Gone is St Alkmunds Church Yard along with the buildings surrounding it, sad. There are many examples of short-sighted planning. Thank you for jogging this aging brain.
I left Derby in 1968 for Canada. I am surprised that the kaftan and shalwar kameez are so predominant in parts of the town. Something that was not there when I lived in the city. Times do change. I did recognize Normanton and Burton roads, and it was a nice drive. Pity there was no explanation as to where we were going. Thanks for sharing.
It looks like the empty film set of some dystopian movie. Back in the 70's & 80's you could hardly find room on the pavement to walk - now it resembles a permanent lockdown.
This takes me back to my childhood growing up in Derby. On many days St Peter's Street was so packed you could hardly walk, and it was impossible to visit all the shops in one trip. Now it looks like a scene from a post apocalyptic movie. I had the misfortune of moving back here in 2020 after 13 years in Nottinghamshire, and it has been the most miserable experience of my entire life :(
Hope this video is of some use. It seemed a waste not to share the initial test run. I'm by no means an expert on editing or colour grading, so you shouldn't judge this video on that, it's simply to show a nice and convenient way to film drives in their full glory.
I saw quite a few stupid drivers throughout the video but I can see a clear winner for the one you’re talking about. Kilt guys legs must have been cold 🥶 😂
Thank you! Just out of curiosity, are you also using a DJI Pocket 2? I'm having this weird issue where between each clip there's an instant drop in sound for a split second, I haven't really noticed it in the past until I filmed this where there's waterfall sounds between the clips. Looked on my video editor and I can even see the muted sound at the end of the clips. Looked online and it seems it's a known issue, but can't find a fix except for editing the audio manually, which I've tried to do in this video.
I use a Pocket 3 but used to use a Pocket 2. I can’t say I ever had an issue with the sound. Have you tried resetting the Pocket 2 back to factory settings? Maybe you pressed something without realising.
We hope you enjoy this video. Some parts were quite slippy under foot, so sorry for any odd pauses in the video where I'm making sure I don't slip to my demise 🤣💚
No problem. Also I have a video traveling the other way up Uttoxeter New Road and driving around the Stockbrook area, if you are familiar with it, you might find it interesting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yar9sTdmYpU.html
