A movie for accepting death. Cooper did die in that aircraft but he never went into the rocket ship. The movie starts with cooper staring at the cornfield. Everything is real. All known physical laws basically apply. He is about to go into the rocket ship but before he can get the chance he has to test out his flight skills as it’s been a while since he did. They wouldn’t let a man fly the rocket if he’s never practiced in over a decade. The footage we see of cooper flying at the start isn’t actually from his past but rather from the present moment of him testing his flight skills that’s when he crashes and enters into a coma. Every point after he leaves Murph behind is us spent in coopers head. The whole idea of going into a different dimension is metaphorical for him going further away from being conscious in his body. We see the exact same footage of coopers test flight when we go down to doctor millers planet. The exact same footage is used. The reason for this is that coopers thinks he’s still alive but he isn’t. Coopers thinks he’s conscious the same way we all do when we’re dreaming or in a coma. That he did in fact pass the flight test but didn’t in reality. We see him succeed this time where he didn’t last time. That’s because we’re in his head where he sees himself as a sufficient pilot to do so. The brain creates a reality in our dream that tricks us into it being reality very convincingly. The reason why they say time passes more slowly is because a dream feels like an hour but it’s actually been 8 in real life. Similarly he’s in a coma on the precipice of death it’s been 20 years on earth or so while being in the coma. The concept of time passes differently while being in a coma or dreaming. The messages coop hears on the screen of “now might be a really good time to come back” are his kids coming to him while he’s in a coma for that time. Gargantua is symbolic of death as one slowly plunges into what may be a dark abyss or as Emily Dickinson would put it in I have a funeral in my brain “And I dropped down and down… and hit a world at every plunge”. “See you on the other side coop” is what tsars says. The whole movie coop’s children say “dad didn’t even try” referring to how he died while being in a coma. “Did my dad leave me”, in other words did he do that failed test flight knowing that there was a high probability of him dying and leaving his children behind. When he finally dies which is when he reaches gargantua he’s “gone beyond the event horizon” symbolic of passing on to the next world. Into “unknown territory” the black hole. Coop has now died. All the characters along the way after the rocket took off are fictitious, projections of who coop thought they were, these were his dreams. The characters like Mann can be seen as coop’s perception of them. When he’s in the black hole “accepted death”, he can communicate with his daughter by leaving notes and clues. These are the moments we feel when our loved ones have passed on yet we feel their presence. It’s so convenient that the manoeuvre costs 51 years that when his daughter is on the precipice of death it just so happens that he shows up. No coincidence why Nolan took 51 years. The only memories Coop can see while in gargantua are memories of his children. You’ll notice how he doesn’t see Murph get married and that’s because he can’t. He hasn’t seen that so he can’t conceive of it. When you die your life plays like a series of memories. Coop can’t see beyond what he doesn’t know which is why Doyle is never there. Coop never seen him. When we dream we see only the faces of people we’ve seen before. Again, Symbolic of us seeing our loved ones when we too are about to die. The concept of love is mentioned. This is symbolic as we still love our loved ones even after they died and the extent of how much we love them never changes. Maybe love can be used to communicate to those who have passed on after us. How is it that a ship came onto coop with all the vastness of space? It never did. The whole story is from coops perspective from what he sees beyond the grave. His soul wasn’t ready to pass on to the next world even after going through gargantua because of the loose ends he had with his daughter. Because of the love and connection they had. It’s also common while being heavily sedated that you see your parents before dying. Murph the whole movie was coping about how her dad went into a coma and died. Towards the end she said “ no body believed me when I told them it was you”. I believe murph did solve it herself with the help of her dad not being in gargantua but by being there in spirit with her. There’s also a reason none of the grandchildren can see him because he is her “ghost”. It’s only after all loose ends are tied (that Coop’s about to die) that he’s free to leave and travel onto the next world. The next world being mans but that’s symbolic of heaven. He has to go to the next world. His soul can now rest in peace.

Stay… I don’t think its depth can be contained in just four letters. If you asked me to describe my life in one word, I’d say ‘stay.’ I stayed in good days, I stayed in memories, I stayed in pain, I stayed with my family, I stayed with people I thought were my family, I stayed with my ex, I stayed in my comfort zone, I stayed in my fears. The only thing I couldn’t stay in was myself. As of today, I’m 26. To many reading this, that may sound young, but I feel the gray hairs in my mind. Writing this takes a courage I’ve never known I had, and I’m going to use that same courage to rewrite the rest of my life from scratch, with a blank page. The first sentence I’ll write in this new book is: ‘never stay.’
