Welcome to my channel. My name is Todd. I live “On The Edge” of North America in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I purchased a Go Pro on Dec 27 2021 and tried it out a few days later hiking trails near my home. I took a few clips and tried my hand at editing. I put together my test video on Dec 31 2021 and created this channel to store and share my East Coast and out of province adventures with family and friends.
If others find my videos, enjoy, you are now my new friend. My interests are photography, travel, hiking, skiing, tennis, motorcycling and trains. My favourite vacations are long distance train trips, cruising, Maui and family ski trips.
If you like my videos please subscribe to my channel.
Must be a very nice view. You guys get a lot more cruise ships than we do. Plus you get the larger ships that are too big to enter our narrow entrance. Thanks for watching.
Hi, Thanks for the great vid. I'm in car 10 in November for a sleeper plus cabin. Do you know how many cars do I have to walk to get to the dining car and/or the dome car?
@@BlueHeron654 Glad my video was helpful. The car behind you should be the Skyline Activity car which has a dome. Behind that is your dining car. So basically as close as you get. After the dining car will be a prestige car or two then the Park car at the very end which also has a dome. Enjoy yor trip
Excellent. So nice to see you make the trip again. The food is still amazing. It’s such a wonderful journey. Drop back when you complete the trip and let me know how you made out.
Awesome video. Thanks. We were on the Emerald for that cruise so I really appreciate yhe video. We visited St. John's in 2018 for a land vacation and spent a week in the lighthouse keepers house. We enjoyed watching ships go in and out from the vantage point of the lighthouse. It was equally enjoyable seeing the cottage and lighthouse from the ship. The lighthouse and cottage we rented can be seen around the 7:27 mark of the video. The cottage is the larger white building to the right of the lighthouse.
@@jackapaul1 Thanks for sharing your experience. Much appreciated. You sure had a great view from there. I’m sure you were a great ambassador for us among your fellow passengers. Hopefully you’ll get back again one day.
@@stephen2028 It Sure is. It happened to the Grand Princess years ago too. Ships are big and high for our port. Each year we get a few cancel due to high winds. I didn’t think it was too windy that day but the local news reported it overnighted due to high winds. Before I heard the news reports I figured since they were two days ahead schedule they decided to overnight. They moved their port of call to St. John’s up by two days because they missed their two days in Greenland. Thanks for watching.
@@juliabouzan1739 Unfortunately you can’t get on here. It would be nice. Adventure Canada has a few cruises that leave from St. John’s. They circle the island. Others start or end here from cruises up north. These are on the smaller Expedition ice enforced Ships. Thanks for watching. Check out my video from onboard the Carnival Pride. Here is the link. When you see one of these giant carnival class cruise ship pulling into a port. What's wrong with this picture. These ports were not designed for these monster ships😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@user-lv3qq8qj5d They are big. However, they do have a great view of the downtown from the top deck. You can look down onto the top of the Atlantic Parking Garage. Thanks for watching.
We were port side (facing the dock), on the second highest row of balconies. We were sitting out, but not really visible in this film (when you did the closeup at 3:20, we were about 2 floors further up and 5 cabins forward of the bump). Still, it was a memorable day and our favorite port (we'll be back). We were stunned by the beauty of the coast (we went hiking & climbing at Flatrock), the very pretty city, the friendly people, and the great food.
@@bymyhandsworked AH too bad I just missed you. Great to hear you enjoyed St.John’s. There are plenty of great hiking trails along the coast. The last week of July and First week of August is a good time. The weather is more consistent and the Folk Festival, George Street Festival and Regatta take place then. Plus it’s a good time for Puffins and whales. There’s nice hiking out on the West Coast too. I’m out in Gros Morne on the west side of the island this week. Spectacular here too. Be sure to book your car rental very early if you come back for a land vacation. Check out some of my short and longer hiking videos. @@Daulef Thanks for the information. Do you know the correct number of years so I can update my thumbnail when I get back home? 10:35. A valuable "insider" tip if you are booking the popular Bedroom for 2. Speak to VIA Reservations early to secure room "F"; no extra charge for this larger room.
Very Good Point. Thanks so much for mentioning this. That’s what I did for my upcoming fall trip. I called VIA Reservations the day they posted the trip date I was looking for and booked Room F in the car number I wanted. Thanks for watching. Much appreciated.
@@AdventuresWithTodd When Budd's designers were configuring the "Manor" class sleepers as per Canadian Pacific's specifications, there was almost 2 extra feet of length left over so it just added on to a bedroom. CPR referred to this room F as a "Compartment", which is somewhat confusing to us as we associate that term to an older European-style shared rooms for coach passengers. There is evidence to suggest that originally there were three folding armchairs present rather than two. This distinction later fell by the wayside but for a period of time in the 1990s after the HEP rebuilding, VIA ticketed "F" as a "Master Bedroom", with a premium over standard bedroom. Again this distinction is gone so it is an insider or railfan's knowledge that will ask the ticket agent to book this room, rather than online. Also, for the "Renaissance" sleepers on the Ocean, all bedrooms are double bunks but rooms 1 to 6 have a shower head in its washroom while 7 to 10 don't. And it appears that VIA no longer makes a fare distinction between the two types. However, on HEP car open berth sections, there is a distinct difference between upper and lower berth fares.
My sister and I are booked for this trip a year from know. How do the bar staff in the Park car know who is travelling Prestige class and entitled to free drinks?
The Park Car is off limits to the Non-Prestige sleeper class passengers until after 4:00 pm on day two during peak season. That’s gives staff time to get to know the Prestige passengers. Are you travelling Prestige? Thanks again for watching.
@AdventuresWithTodd No way., $$$, we are booking open berths, for half the cost of rooms, but still has the same dining meals as all sleeping car pax. We will visit the Park car once and respect that the Prestige people are paying a lot for their privileged position. Starting at Toronto, we will get off in Jasper to board the Rocky Mountaineer for the rest of the journey to Vancouver. This time we will splurge on Gold class ($$$$).
@@haweater1555 Wicked. It’s going to be a great trip. My first two trips were in a lower Berth. My wife is going next time so we are moving up to Room F. I really liked the berths. Both trips there were only two berths occupied. First trip was with my son. We called the sections our three bed two bath condo lol. Second trip it was just myself and one other person. Up to two days prior to departure I was the only one in Car 216, the last sleeper car on my train just ahead of the Skyline and Dining Car. A man from Australia travelling the county booked it two prior to departure. Check out these videos. One is on the accommodations - mostly berths. The second link below is mostly about the food. @@AdventuresWithTodd My only other VIA trip out West was 30 years ago, a coach ticket on CanRailPass. With an upgrade to an upper berth (cheapest, obviously) in sleeping car for the 2nd of the then-three night trip (Winnipeg to Edmonton). Experienced the privilege of witnessing the prairie sunset from the Park car dome. Returned to the coach section for the mountain crossing while my new friends there were jealous that I had a good night's lay-flat sleep and luxury of taking a shower at the trip's mid-point. (No dinner in the diner, not included with fare at that time. I bought all my meals in the Skyline Café section of coach). In 2007 I was just itchin to get on the train again so I took a round trip on the Chaleur (now gone). Arriving there in roomette, but the return trip they were all booked so I choose Lower Berth, and experienced the widest bed one could book on the train. Other overnight trips in the 90s were a circle trip to Halifax on the Atlantic and the Ocean in roomette, a second one way trip on the Ocean, and a trip Montreal to Toronto in a bedroom for 2 shared with a friend on the corridor overnight train.
Just booked Vancouver to Toronto , 6 months ahead , highly suggest that if you want to save money , book 6-7 months ahead , you will be very surprised at the cost
