Linda was nice to those who she chose to be nice to and could be very rude to other people for no particular reason. Haughty is how I would describe her. She was very calculating and isn't overtly overly emotional.
I think the first Canadian figure skater I became aware about was Barbara Ann Scott. Donald Jackson much later and seeing them on RU-vid is always a treat. Wasn't Gary Beacham a creative genius of sorts? Always assumed he is Canadian. Love all of them and pulled so hard for Orser to win the gold medal in the "Battle of the Brians". He was so gracious when he didn't. Jeffrey Buttle is yet another Canadian who provided thrills. Elvis Stojko at one time was tops even if his attitude at times offended me. And the history of Canadians in pairs figure skating. Other countries provided so many skating stars.
Gary Beacom was a "mad genius" to the point of filing his skate boots to get deeper edges IIRC. There's is lots of footage of him on RU-vid including my favourite "Song of Songs" Not sure what "attitude" Elvis would have had as he's always been a down to earth guy. The only thing I can think of and it seems rather ridiculous that some were offended when he advocated for men's figure skating being more masculine. One might think that just because of the name alone there might be some room for that.
Nathan is meant to be more than a gold medal winner in the Olympics. He is gifted in so many ways. He should be given opportunities something like he did with Elton John. Performing on film, more music videos, commercials, ice performances, coaching, choreography. He is a national treasure and we should have the honor of enjoying his gift. Gifted obviously, kind, humble, smart and it would be an honor to see him in as many venues as possible. That with statistician to the world.
So true. For most athletes, being an Olympian (or in Nathan’s case, Olympic Champion) is the peak of their careers and lives. With Nathan, I get the sense that this is just the beginning for him. He’s very bright and apparently wants to go to medical school after completing his undergrad at Yale. We should highlight more people like Nathan - he reminds me of the best of us.
Sooo awesome to see n hear these outstanding people. They followed their dreams n have nooo idea how much joy n entertainment they provided for alll of us thru their struggles reaching their goals n with class, great examples for future generations. THANKS!!
Scott Hamilton has got to be one of the nicest people on the planet. He is such a joy to listen to. He is a gift to ice skating fans everywhere. Brian Boitano is such a phenomenal skater. So focused and talented. I remember when his eyes teared up as they played our National Anthem while he stood so proudly on the podium. That's why I love the winter olympics. Our athletes there make us proud and don't disrespect our country like the summer olympic athletes led by Megan Rapinoe in Tokyo, in 2021. She disgraced our country and herself. Nathan Chen stood on the podium in Beijing with his hand over his heart as they played our anthem. Thank you for posting these talks.
Scott Hamilton is such a great down to earth guy who is always so upbeat and a real pleasure to see and hear. He won the Gold in 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, the same time Torvill and Dean won the Gold Medal for Bolero. I loved this interview with our Gold Medal Ice Dancers and also those he did with Brian Boitano and Christopher Dean. Torvill and Dean, as well as Scott Hamilton, came in 5th at the Olympics in 1980 in Lake Placid. T&D were working full time jobs and could not devote the time needed to win a medal at the Olympics. The fact they came in 5th under those circumstances speaks to their talent and skill. After they got a grant from Nottingham, they devoted full time to their Ice Dancing and won the Gold in 1984.
Very fun to watch and I learned a lot! Thank you! If anyone is interested, there's a good documentary on Peacock regarding the 2002 pairs scandal. It's called "Meddling: The Olympic Skating Scandal That Shocked The World".
These two men are probably my favorite male skaters. They're not only the best skaters, but top notch human beings!! I remember watching them skate. This interview made me nostalgic and happy.
Tanith and Charlie are so similar, they look like siblings, they really belong together! I wish you a beautiful and relaxed married and parental life. I send many greetings and thanks for wonderful artistic experiences from the Czech Republic, the city of Ostrava.
I agree. I wonder why Scott never brought up Meryl's marriage in 2019. She married a Russian ? skater in a beautiful wedding in France. Brian Boitano, Kristi Yamaguchi and other skating celebs were there. She then had a second wedding party in the US so her grandmother could attend.
It is soooo great seeing you both and hearing your stories. Playing back the 1988 Olympics on RU-vid. I still can’t figure out how you all did what you did. The stamina, determination and stories are relevant to life. God bless you.
Congratulations Nathan! You deserve that gold medal! What a delightful young man you are! With a great attitude! Super roll model for young men in the male skating world! My son figure skated from age 3-17 years. Competitive ( 8 to 17). Couldn’t get the triples! (John’s roll models were Scott Hamilton & Paul Wylie! I admire you & your parents for your love & dedication, I know what it takes! The things John learned through his skating training has formed the person he is today! He is a good sport He is a hard worker, never gives up, & is very & personal person! So happy for you and good luck in whatever you do in the future I-will continue to follow your career!
Loved this interview. I have been a fan of figure skating for over 30 years and never get tired of all the amazing programs and fabulous talented skaters that I've seen. ❤
I love this young man he is the best I've ever seen. I'm sad just knowing that he will stop skating, he probably will go to another olympics I hope because it's so enjoyable to watch him. Nathan so proud you won gold at 2022 olympics.
Es un joven maravilloso. Único e irrepetible. Llego a la perfección en su patinaje además le agrego pasión sentimiento. Su dominio de su cuerpo y perfeccion . simplemente lo amo. Podrían traducir al español esta entrevista. Gracias
Seriously this whole pandemic was planned it’s all political to control us with fear, don’t fall for it! Freedom is up to you, if you are a Christian American you can’t be a Democrat or a Rino like Cheney, Romney and many others they prove everyday that they hate Americans and America!
Just stumbled onto this, was a huge fan of Scott's back in the day. I think Nathan is such a great example to young people regardless of financial status here in the US. His parents didn't have the money to afford him to become an Olympian, but they supported him in that dream anyways. I also think it is cool that his first Olympic Gold medal was in his parents' home town/country. What an amazing family!
I love this interview! And now, what a joy that Nathan has fulfilled his destiny! Now, like Scott, he's an Olympic champion, forever an Olympic champion! Legends both! 🥇🥇🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤🤍💙🤘😎🥇🥇⛸⛸
