Wow it’s crazy only 5 people passed away. Pretty obvious the new population of free loaders can’t listen to directions or instructions since we know what happened to New Orleans during Katrina
Carter was and is a good man. I never understood the hate he has gotten over the years. Veteran. Served on a submarine. Graduated the Naval Academy. Head scratching, to say the least.
Thank you for this document! Sadly, there is nowadays very little information online about this major exhibition that took place 20 years ago. This video helps us to comprehend the magnitude of the work done, and the enormous amount of effort put in this once-in-a-lifetime event.
I was 25 years old when I rode out Frederic in Gulfport High School with my 2-year-old son. I lived in a mobile home and was strongly advised to seek shelter, so for the sake of my son I did. I recall the fright at being surrounded by the strangers. There were some strange ones indeed. I recall dropping some of my baby's food as I attempted to pick it up and hold onto my son. A man was standing there as I asked for help; he just stood and stared at me. Finally, I made it into the the school and found a place. As the storm passed, they moved MANY more people in with us as the roof of another part of the school ripped off. Then it was SO hard to breathe; too many people and too little oxygen. Next they called for medical help and began attempting to resuscitate a woman who had passed out; I never knew if she survived. Frightened doesn't begin to describe my state of mind that night. The next morning as I drove home assessing the damage, I saw so many downed trees and power lines. When I stepped into my home, the only issue I observed was a lamp knocked over. My inclination was to stay home, and I would've been better off. However, God was good and protected us in spite of everything.
About 5 years ago I travelled to the Abby of Gethsemane located-outside of Bardstown, KY. I’m not a fan of visiting gravesites but I located Merton’s grave at the abby… simple , unremarkable which I appreciated. I visited the abby because of Merton so I figure why not locate his grave. The area was so peaceful and quite, I didn’t want to leave.
Bob Grip Thank you for the prompt response, sir. I was not expecting a reply at all and I am grateful for your time. I was under the impression that Jeremiah Denton was widely respected and honored by the public, and I am sorry to hear that so many attacks were being made against him. May God bless his soul.
Thanks for this, Bob. My family has been looking for footage of this kind, and would greatly appreciate any other footage of Archbishop May that you would be able to post
Very rarely do we get a saint of our times.it is people like nouven sent to us by the Lord in our generation to look into our sins and the gift of a free will to stay away from sin.future generations will allways have another saint to show people the way.
11 years old when Frederic hit. We rode it out in Fairhope. Remember it like it was yesterday. Surprised to see some of the reporters in this are still around today. This was so neat to watch...so many memories. So much has changed since then...cars..technology...the media...and a basic sense of kindness among people.
Fr Nouwen's accent was much thicker 25yrs previous and evidently Thomas Merton could not understand him too well that he indicated in his journal, and called him Henri Now. He wrote also he was very friendly. Is his right eye a glass eye? It stays fixed while the other roams.
In 79 I was 23..... We road out Hurricane Fredric on a small construction barge 300 miles SE of Louisiana. We could not get out of the way of the storm. As I recall.... the storm was supposed to go up the east coast but turned into the gulf at the last minute. It was a rough ride. The waves had to be at least 40 to 50 feet tall and lasted for days.... thank god of those brave boys on the tug boat that pulled us through the storm.
I lived in Mobile and was 11 years old when the hurricane hit. I remember bathing in Big Creek Lake like a lot of other people were doing. I can still remember the howling winds. Scary.
Glad you survived it hun..Such a horrible monster to endure, I'm in Sydney Australia & I've never & never want to experience anything like you & this town coped with..the small town I grew up in Flooded once bt that was nothing compared to this. Just wow😢 RIP the Little girl that got killed😢😢
Life had real meaning and compassion before the damn internet. Wish the fucking internet was never invented. Nor cell phones. Now we're just a bunch cybernine systematist robots.
was a good man,my familyand Ilived next door to Mr Lipscomb, and Alvin Lovette and his family lived behind the Bishop, his mother miss Margert and his father also was out standing people in the community Oscar was a Jr.I was only ten when my parents moved in the neighborhood,my point is we didn't know that we were next door neighbor S to the most powerful priest in the south ,years later I learned of his status because his mom and mine would chat on daily basis, the house he grew up in my family brought after his family moved, mine you this is at the peak of the civil rights movement we exchanged birthday,Xmas and he gave me a shirt,tie&$20,for my high school graduation,in1966 they were I think the last White's to move,I will Alvin does he remember,it was a great time growing up,the only thing my friend's and I dislike was his mother complained about playing ball in the streets because of the ball touching the wires.
notice the national guard was there right after the storm to prevent looting..poor people in new orleans after katrina had nobody! thats how much government has changed
Times were different...We didn't have a media and President that tried so hard to divide us! I went through Frederic and people did help each other tremendously...not a good event but those were better times in America.
Still wish I could have made it there this year...but, I can only hope and pray there will be enough interest for a chartered bus trip there from the immediate Eparchy of Parma area. Certainly might need new strategies with that for sure. Possibly have the Cathedral carpool people over? Who knows?
