Most of the difference between trumpet, cornet and flugel its due to the aproach and sound concept of the player and also because of small variations on technique, obviusly there at least in the case of trumpet and flugelhorn there are always little nuances in the sound that are inherent to each instrument, for instance you could make a trumpet sound very mellow using slower air stream and articulating in a certain way but It never sounds identical to a flugelhorn and the opposite its also true, but in the case of trumpet and cornet they are in my opinion essencially the same instrument.
@@veselkamileva8752 Yes they are all different instruments but its not very dificult to make them sound similar, for instance concerts that are originally played with the cornet like the Carnival of Venice are nowadays played succesfully by great trumpet soloist like Rubén Simeo, Nat Adderly played long cornets his entire career he could sound identical to a trumpet when he needed the same with Warren Vache who playa both long and shepherds crook cornets, in the case of flugelhorn and trumpet the difference in tone and tuning of the instrument are bigger, but with slower air, low volume and a certain sound concept you can make a trumpet sound very closed to a flugelhorn and also its true that on the hands of inexperienced players its very frequent that the flugelhorn sounds very closed to the trumpet tone.
Difference between miles and Marsalis is Marsalis doesn't leave much space and Davis seems to me to be more connected to interacting with the rythm section
Is this concert from the early 1980s? I remember that there was an album by Herbie Hancock's Quartet which featured Wynton Marsalis. "Well You Needn't" was one of the tracks on that album which makes me think that this concert must have been recorded at about the same time.
This is defintely from that era. This was the opening track from the Herbie Hancock album "Quartet" which came out in 1981. My jazz band teacher gave me a burned copy in 2005 and it will live with my forever. Brandford was not on that album but it always amazes me to hear the two Marsalis brothers with this rhtyhm section behind them. They are all so locked in. Incredible musicianship.
I was just about to type "bingo" then I saw the name and thought I must have commented already and forgot. The thing about guys named Joe Kavanaugh, impeccable taste. Yes, joy is number 1 with Wynton.
Youth and phenomenon equal surrealistic excellence from the brothers and, of course, from the Band of musical gladiators! I love how both brothers demonstrate the Science of Improvisational Development: how each paints pictures which are neither monotonal nor monotonous, but melody relevant, coherent and developmentally progressive. Herbie? Well! What is there to be said that has not already been spoken! I am going to have an encore; won't you?
Got to have bull chops to play jazz! Its not easy to solo for an extended period of time. on trumpet with one hand using two mutes 🥵🎺 ! Thanks for posting 👏🏾👍🏾😊
