Great Video - Looking at the product prior and the confusion within the comments brought me to your demonstration, so Thanks. Any reason I couldn't run off a 100lb tank? If a 20lb gives you 100hrs - then a 100lb gives you 500hrs at the same output rate?

Hey, I enjoy your videos. You simply show what you do as a solution. I assume if there's a problem later with a solution, that you'll make a video showing what happened, or praise how well a solution worked. The only thing bothering me in this video tho is the music overlay. Could you turn down the music volume so it's easier to hear what you're saying? Maybe increase music volume during scenes when there's nothing to listen in on. 🤗 Keep up the channel! 🎉
@OneStrangeJourney
@OneStrangeJourney 10 дней назад
Hey, I really appreciate the feedback! I totally agree about the music-it was quieter during editing than it ended up being in the final product, which was frustrating. In my newer video, I think I’ve got a better handle on it. As for insulating the entire underbelly, I have zero regrets. Was it perfect? No, but it definitely helped us get through a winter with temperatures as low as -40°F without ever having frozen pipes! The factory insulation alone wouldn’t have been enough.

I have the recpro 15k you showed in the video in my Cardinal 3450RL (2010). It pulls around ~1400watts powered by my ~3700watts of solar on the roof. But it still struggles to keep up in when its 90+ here in Indiana. But I normally only run the one during the day. The 13.5K that is in the bedroom, I only run when sleeping. I have a 48volt solar setup which I do love (EG4 6000XP with two EG4 Lifepo4 48v 100AH batteries). I say if you are going to put solar on the roof, you will want to use it for more then then just the AC. Love the videos. You keep it real. Keep em coming.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! The EG4 line definitely looks solid, and I’m seriously considering their batteries and controllers/chargers for my setup. I love the idea of being able to plug and play right away while slowly building out the solar system over time-it’s definitely more doable that way. But yeah, the recpro's are still on my mind too. I’m just worried that even with two new 15k units, it still might not be enough. My neighbors with a similar-sized RV are running three units, so I’m thinking lol...

How many 40lb bags of pellets would you say you went through in a month? I'm gonna have to move into my camper, living in a northern Michigan climate, and I'm wondering cost bc I'm low income. Thanks!!!
@OneStrangeJourney
@OneStrangeJourney Месяц назад
Well the details are we live in a 40' 5th wheel as you seen, and depending on how much we kept it running anywhere from 1 bag every 3 days for temps in 40s, to 1 bag a day during the -20f to -30f. My wife gets cold easy so she would keep the rv between 75 and 80 or more sometimes and I would literally crack windows when it was to hot. My fellow Rvers were struggling to keep their rvs 65 and thought I was insane to have windows cracked below 0f. So depending what the bags of pellets cost in your area and what kind of temps your dealing with it may be cheaper then buying propane. For us it defiantly was and our propane heater would never have kept us this warm!

In fact a stock one ton from that year wouldn’t even be able to keep the ride height I can one you put 3,000 lbs plus of payload. The difference in payload is 3500lbs vs 4500 on the one ton. I just went through my 6th or 7th year of heating my shop with a Big Buddy, split catalyst and I am still alive! I installed a CO2 sensor the first year and it is still on the wall and has never beeped. I put a second smoke/CO2 alarm in this year only because I installed a smoke alarm network in my out buildings and house. it has never beeped except when I tested it! In Eastern Oregon everyone I know buys their propane by the GALLON, not the pound! I have no idea what a 20# propane tank is? When I was working, I had many remote generator sites that ran on propane, GALLONS of it, not Pounds. If I would have ordered pounds of propane the delivery man would have slapped me! What is the group-speak prepper talk when people define propane tanks by the pound? Has anyone you know ever bought more than a one pound tank of propane? Have you ever paid for a "pound" of propane? Every place I buy propane I pay by the gallon, WTF? Over! I personally have five, 10 gallon propane tanks, six 5 gallon propane tanks, and about one hundred 1# canisters. The canisters are the only tank I know of that are defined by the pound, and I have no idea how many I can fill from a 5 gallon tank. FYI: I can run my buddy heater on low, just above where you hear the flame starting to flicker for 7 days exactly on 9 gallons, that is about 1.25 gallons per day, 24/7. When I get down to the last 10 gallon tank I take the other 4 in to be filled. The total is always 7 days on 9 gallons, almost a month. One more thing, a filter does not make the heater hard to start, that doesn't even make sense! Only if the filter was plugged would it matter. I have used filters since I bought my first Buddy Heater and have never had a problem. The only maintenance is cleaning off the pilot orifice occasionally with a small wire brush. PS If the "safety sally's" saw how I test my connections they would probably have a heart attack, but I always wear my gloves! I use soap only to wash my hands!
@OneStrangeJourney
@OneStrangeJourney 10 дней назад
Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like you’ve got your setup dialed in after all these years with the Big Buddy. I hear you on the CO2 alarms-it's always good to stay safe, but it sounds like you’ve had zero issues. Your propane usage numbers are impressive! I’ve been getting good results with mine too-once you know your gear, it’s easy to dial it in just right. As for the filter, totally agree. I’ve used one since day one and haven’t had any problems starting up the heater. Maintenance is key, and cleaning the pilot orifice once in a while does the trick. Sometimes you’ve just got to trust your experience and know what works for you. Appreciate the insight!

Ah I don't think you've hooked up this Buddy heater correctly. The BIG Buddy you can hook directly as you show here. However the Big Buddy has a filter built in. The regular Buddy does not have a built in filter. In order too hook up the Buddy too a 20# you must buy a filter too hook it up. And even if you hook up a 1# tank they recommend you use a filter.

It’s optional, but I didn’t use a filter. It worked great for two years without any issues until it was stolen. However, this winter, I plan to buy a filter-why not, right?
