So all the aliens speak in the same language and they have ability to speak and hear the same language, in the same frequency? Same vocal chords? These movies would have looked more practical if all aliens communicated in their own way but there was some interpreting machine
HOT DAYUM. This show hits hard. So she was forced to change gender without her consent because of masculine traditions in her culture, but her internal identity is still female, and is uncomfortable in a male body. Aka: a trans-transgender character? 😅 This is why we leave the gender identity for them to decide, not force one or the other on them before they can even speak.
I will say, when I first started watching this show I found the acting cringy and the plots very on the nose and blunt in their messaging (social media planet as an example) but holy, did it really improve through season 2 and especially 3 really glad I stuck with it
A brave and strong little girl made a big impact on the universe. Topa is a powerful force. I love her. I wish they would’ve made more episodes of her. I’m Topa’s number 1 fan.
Topa did not confront them about her original gender but rather about her original sex. In their universe a sex change operation is literal, you are altered to match the opposite sex, Topa actually became a male, eventually reversed to a female.
so what used to be the plot of an entire episode in which it was about intense diplomacy and the back and forth was condensed into a less than 3 minute superficial sequence? Has the audience become that dense that if you are not able to tell a large story within 3 minutes, the producers fear the audience will lose interest because it simply cannot focus enough anymore for a proper 45 minute episode with this topic alone? Such a shame that Star Trek has become victim of the TikTok induced short attention span disease that is so prevalent in today's society
I would love to see a crossover between Orville and Star Trek someday. This scene, along with so many others, shows Orville's worthiness to stand alongside it's inspiration as an equal.
This is one of the best Star Trek cosplays I've ever seen. The only thing that ruins it is watching Sam Malone and Family Guy doing fake Star Trek moral quandary dialogue.
I really didn't like the show when this became an arc because I thought it was pushing another agenda. After giving it a chance and watching these episodes I see that the agenda they were pushing was that its beautiful to be who you are as you were born. These bits speak to the nature of what is best for children among a world full of people that want to make a world so perfect they damage what they love most.
Disappointed by bad writing in Picard and Discovery, people keep telling me to watch SNW, but then I watch clips like this and the writing evidently still sucks. This is better than discovery, but still barely on par with voyager and TOS and far removed from the deep dramaturgical brilliance of DS9 or TNG. This is how teenagers imagine diplomacy works. They're flying our flag, lmao, just a different kind of cringe drama overload like all the crying in DIS. Just emotional fan service nothing more. Where is the subtlety, where is doubt, where is the crushing moral gravitas.
I think it's funny how Zefram Cochrane made a spaceship to get rich. Meanwhile, it would take a small fortune to make a spaceship. Sure, he scrounged parts from the WWIII era. Like you could just head over to the junk yard now and scrounge up some WWII atomic bombs, right? lol
This always frustrated me so much and I still see the turn of events as unforgivable. Not sure the writers realize how painful of a scene they wrote. The entire crew abandoned Mariner because of their own stupid assumptions and it didn't even have credence. Mariner has ALWAYS been consistent in her rule breaking. Captain Freeman above all should know that. She does it with good intentions usually, but ALWAYS flaunts it and brags about it even when she knows it goes against regulations. However, at the end of the days she's always shown that she loves Starfleet. There's nothing in her past actions to suggest that SHE was the problem in the interviews or make sense of the assumption everyone made to the point that her own mother transfered her to the worst division in starfleet and disowned her. It's made watching every episode since a little awful, because I hate Captain Freeman and so much of the crew so much now for this one awful moment that they never even properly apologize (and honestly what level of apology could possibly make up for what they did to her just to make themselves feel better?).
I think when they say “small arguments” and “defiance” what’s actually going on is the Kaylon are asking too many questions abd making requests because it’s in their programming to learn lots. They may be not following orders because they’re either following other orders and cannot stop until they are done or they come to the conclusion that there is no point to doing certain things. This is perfectly normal for AI and the guy even admits that the AI was gonna end up doing that stuff given its programming
This scene really shows me that Seth isn't writing for Family Guy anymore. There would be so many insensitive trans jokes in this show if it were written like Family Guy.
1:11 Translation: "I think that they are very stupid, but if we join, we will be the intellectual kings of these stupid races, so let''s say we re OK with everything they say." Roughly transated summary of about 7647 Gigabytes of internal binary dialoge among the Keylons.
In my alternate-Trek canon after his 'Voyager' adventures were done, the EMH moved to an uncharted planet called Xeleya, became a scientist, married a local woman, and had two daughters - one of them is Alara Kitan 😊
Klyden is a bit of a hypocrite in this situation since he himself was born female. This is what happens when you force such things on children, especially when they cannot make the choice for themselves. It truly shows how messed up our current climate is in terms of gender right now too
Also, DDR 2.0 !!!😂
