I still do not see how a Great Dane is a mastiff. It is not a heavy low-set dog. I'm not sure why a broholmer would be either, nor a Presa Canario, nor the bully kuttha, or the Malaklidi. And the American Mastiff? I'm sorry, but I don't believe the AKC has admitted them, nor most other significant kennel clubs.

Being german, this is a german breed, called Deutsche Dogge, up to 19th century Deutscher Saurüde, you surely recognize english sow in german Sau ( in this context: Wild boar). In late 15th century , german traders ( from Hanseatic League?) brought first Mastiffs from England to Germany ( HRE): Now german word for dog is Hund ( see hound in your language), i personally assume the german traders of 15th century misinterpretet the word , Dog ' as name of Mastiff breed, so with Dogge all large dogs had been described, when the word Mastiff was unknown in Germany, for example Bordeauxdogge, or Argentinische Dogge. So: German Deutsche Dogge ( in your language known as Great Dane, IS a descendant of english Mastiff, Mixed with german breeds. Also german breed Deutscher Boxer is descendant of no more existing large breed Brabanter Bullenbeißer ( you should recognize, what Bullenbeißer means).

The idea that there's a dog that doesn't shed at all is a myth. There's no dog breed that is completely non-shedding; all dogs shed to some degree.

Title: The Dawes Mastiff: A Creation by John & Karolina Dawes in Western Cape, South Africa Introduction: The Dawes Mastiff, a remarkable new dog breed, owes its origins to the diligent efforts of John and Karolina Dawes, who bred and developed the breed in the picturesque region of Western Cape, South Africa. This report provides factual insights into the development, appearance, temperament, and suitability of the Dawes Mastiff as a beloved companion. Development and Breeding History: John and Karolina Dawes, passionate dog breeders in Western Cape, South Africa, embarked on a purposeful journey to create a distinct canine breed with a blend of the finest traits from various mastiff-type dogs. Their dedication to breeding excellence and commitment to producing a well-balanced and unique breed led to the birth of the Dawes Mastiff. The breeding program involved careful selection of parent dogs, focused on combining desirable characteristics to establish a new breed standard. Physical Appearance: The Dawes Mastiff boasts an impressive and robust physical stature. These magnificent dogs present a large and muscular build, conveying strength and confidence. Standing tall at the shoulder, adult males measure between 27 to 32 inches (68 to 81 cm), while weighing in at approximately 150 to 200 pounds (68 to 91 kg). Their female counterparts are slightly smaller, reaching heights of 25 to 30 inches (64 to 76 cm) and weighing around 120 to 180 pounds (54 to 82 kg). The breed's hallmark is its broad, square-shaped head, coupled with a short muzzle and a distinct, powerful jawline. With expressive medium-sized eyes and ears that can be either cropped or left natural, the Dawes Mastiff commands a regal and captivating presence. The coat is short, dense, and is available in an array of attractive colors, including brindle, fawn, apricot, or black. Temperament and Behavior: Bred with love and care, the Dawes Mastiff exhibits a temperament characterized by loyalty and protectiveness. They form strong bonds with their human family members, showcasing an affectionate and gentle disposition, particularly towards children and other pets when adequately socialized from an early age. Renowned for their eagerness to please and quick learning abilities, these dogs respond well to training and obedience commands. Given their natural protective instincts, Dawes Mastiffs may display wariness towards strangers, making them exemplary watchdogs. To foster well-rounded behavior, early socialization is essential in helping them develop confidence around new individuals and situations. Responsible ownership, consistent training, and proper socialization are critical factors in nurturing the Dawes Mastiff's best qualities. Exercise and Care: Being a large and active breed, the Dawes Mastiff requires regular exercise to stay healthy and content. Engaging in daily walks, playtime, and providing mental stimulation are integral to prevent behavioral issues that may arise from boredom or pent-up energy. Despite their substantial size, Dawes Mastiffs can adapt well to apartment living, provided their exercise needs are adequately met. Grooming requirements for the breed are relatively low, thanks to their short coat. Regular brushing contributes to maintaining a healthy coat and reducing shedding, enhancing the overall appearance of these magnificent dogs. Health Considerations: As with all dog breeds, the Dawes Mastiff may be prone to certain health issues, including hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, bloat, and heart conditions. Responsible breeders, such as John and Karolina Dawes, employ health testing and selective breeding practices to minimize these risks and ensure the well-being of the breed. Conclusion: The Dawes Mastiff, a breed developed with dedication and love by John and Karolina Dawes in Western Cape, South Africa, exemplifies loyalty, protectiveness, and striking physical attributes. As prospective owners consider this remarkable breed, they should be prepared for the dog's large size and exercise needs while recognizing the importance of early socialization and consistent training. Through responsible care and thoughtful breeding practices, the Dawes Mastiff can thrive as a cherished and devoted companion, exemplifying the efforts of its esteemed creators.

Appenzeller, Boxer, Beauceron, are my faves. And while Giant Schnauzer and Black Russian are a good intimidating watch and guard dogs, I prefer the Bouvier des Flandres for that job - but then, I am more experienced than most average dog owners.
