Did the tank clear the front of the frame ? I've heard some of them are a bit narrow at the front and are a tight fit on the frame I do have one but haven't tried it on a bike yet
@Motorcyclesymmetry

Yes it clears. It’s tight but it clears. If you have a powdered frame you may need to sand it down a bit based on my experience.

Would like to know more about the larger ones. What kind of top speed can you get out of them. And how hard are these to find for sale?

Beautiful job, beautiful bike. This bike was manufactured when I was 12 years old, long before I became interested in motorcycles. We never had that model here. When the Yamaha dealership started, the R3 (YR3) was already out. I got my first bike at 17 in 1973, a well used Yamaha CT1 175 trail. At 67, I still ride almost every day. Oh ! nice job . i have a k5. what do you think of the plastic sidecovers? i cant find any fiberglass ones. what do you use to polish between the fins ? . any info is appreciated . jamie in newzealand.
@Motorcyclesymmetry
@Motorcyclesymmetry 2 года назад
The plastic side covers worked really well. They were a good fit. For cleaning the fins without disassembly your best bet is a brush with the longest bristles you can find. For actual polishing? Not sure how you would go about that. I typically clean and/or blast the cylinders and heads prior to painting so no actual polishing. Best of luck with your project!
